Draught at Nørrebro Bryghus. Hazy, golden colour with a thin white head. Fruity aroma with grasses, citrus fruits and a sweet, herbal hint. Taste is bitter. Medium body with a creamy texture and an average carbonation. Good for the abv. Finishes dry and bitter with a grassy note. Nice golden ale.

Nørrebro What Would Black Jesus Do? 3.4
(on tap @ Nørrebro Bryghus) Poured into a footed tulip glass at ‘fridge temperature’ reveals a mostly black body, which turns into deeply dark copper, when viewed in front of candlelight. The dark body is topped out by a two finger tan head that recedes somewhat yet still leaving one finger of nicely creamy foam with small bubbles. Beautiful lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma has a noticeable yet restrained hop presence, which to novice beer sippers like me seems to have a whiff of CTZ hops, but this hop does not seem to be on the list of (organic) hops used here. In any case the hoppy aroma component of this beer seems to me to lend notes that are weedy, earthy, herbal and sprucy rather than say citrusy or tropical fruity. This is how I like the hop contribution to a Black IPA generally. There’s also a note of toasted malt, which becomes much more evident as you taste the beer. On the palate it strikes you as being slightly more viscous than a normal IPA. The body is medium and there’s a noticeable drying sensation in the finish, which I imagine comes from a combination of the ABV and the toasted malt ascerbicity. Flavour is moderately bitter with not much sweetness, which makes drinking it a journey of discovery rather than an uncomplicated refreshment. It’s a fine black IPA and perfectly drinkable I just find I tend to prefer the ones that make the malts play a primarily ‘colourful’ role. Once again the price is a bit on the high side - 9 euro for 40 cl. If I were to drink another one of these I’d say a small glass would be sufficient.

Nørrebro This Is Citra 4
(on tap @ Nørrebro bryghus) Poured into a footed tulip reveals a hazy amber with lone finger white head that fades somewhat leaving film and beautiful lace. Aroma is really fresh and clearly expressed citra hop with notes of citrus fruits. Oily texture, soft carbonation, medium to light body and a finish, which despite the barman’s warnings is actually rather soft on the bitterness to this hardened hophead’s palate. Flavour follows the nose - it’s a clear session ipa with a very subdued role for the malt and a nice and fresh hop playing a leading role. Good workmanship and extremely sessionable were it not for the price (6,5 euro for 25 cl) - but considering that you’re consuming organic citra hops (rare to the second power) I guess that’s understandable!

Copenhagen 30/1 2016. 40 cl bottle from Kvickly. Hand grabbing tomato on the label. Pours hazy dark brown with beige head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam. Lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is suprisingly fresh. A little nut and caramel supplemented by tart fruityness. Soft carbonation and slightly thick palate. Taste is sweet caramel and nuts but nicely balanced by pronounced bitterness in the aftertaste. Stays with you for a while. Very nice brown ale - well balanced and avoid being too sweet.

Nørrebro Nørrebro APA 2
Bottle 40 cl. Simply called "Nørrebro" on the bottle. Pours a clear golden with a creamy and lacing white head. Very subtle aroma hops in the nose - hard to define though. The "tons of aroma" as described.on the label, must be meant as some kind of joke. Medium body, rather sweet malty, soft on the palate but extremely metallic. Crude, raw late bitterness. Unrefined and very simple. 270116

Tap @Taphouse, Cph. Pours deep opaque black with a big, staying creamy beige head. Aroma has sweet chocolate, quite some coffee, mild roasted. Light citrussy hops. Medium carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good roasted malts, feels fairly light even if it still creamy? Actually the dryness makes it feel lighter, much like a schwarzbier. But then good coffee blends well with soft viniousness and mild hops flavour.

Copenhagen 15/1 2016. 40 cl bottle from Kvickly. Pretty simple golden label with the postal code from Nørrebro in capital numbers. Quite foamy upon opening - finds it hard to stay in the bottle. Pours hazy pale yellow with big white head. Settles as foamy creamy crown of foam with a lot of lacing. Intense fruity, lemonadelike aroma. Tart berries, citrus and passion fruit. Fizzy carbonation and watery palate. Taste is quite fruity as well. Sweet peach and passion fruit balanced by tart and slightly acidic lemon. Moderate bitterness - do not know if it's the coffee mentioned on the label. Aftertaste is fairly short and watery. More lemonade than beer - but I like the bitter twist.
