2.9 Takatenjin (Sword of the Sun) Tokubetsu Honjozo Sake Bottle from Astor wines. Clear, every slight silver sheen. Onion-y, scallion savory-ness over the standard banana, plastic candy nose. Acidic, lingering minute bitterness, butter, milk cream sweetness. Oily texture, hot after the fact. Lacks an attractive or complex flavor. Don't care. Friday, May 27, 2022

3.2 Takatenjin (Shrine of the Village) Junmai Ginjo Sake Courtesy redlight. Pours clear and still, with a very slight yellowish tint. Sticky legs coat the side of the glass well. The aroma is nicely balanced, but simple, showing sticky rice sweetness, creamy lactose, and a hint of lemon chiffon. Flavors follow suit, again initially sweet with a strong rice quotient, yet balanced by warming, creamy lemoncello. The palate is of moderate weight, sporting a slick and creamy body that’s not overbearing with alcohol, despite a hefty 17% ABV. Simple, straightforward, quality sake....but nothing mind blowing. 3.7 Takatenjin (Shrine of the Village) Junmai Ginjo Sake Sweet rice, mildly floral, with traces of anise, and notes of sweet mild citrus. Pours clear, no carbonation, with strong lacing. Very clean, rice, a little bready, alcohol notes as it warms, overall very clean with only mild fruitiness. Very nice. Wednesday, February 3, 2010

3.5 Kaiun Junmai Ginjo Sake Taste @ Shibuya, Las Vegas: Pours a light beige color with a nice full body. The nose is dry but fragrant with a moderate alcohol note and a dry citrus rind note. The flavor has a sweeter impact but a full bodied masculine finish. Good but seems a little held back compared to some other ginjos. Sunday, May 31, 2009

3.3 Kaiun Junmai Ginjo Sake Bottle. Walnut, rice malt and soy aroma with hint of flowers. Light yellow color. Initially buttery flavor with rice malt coming in next and finishing with an alcohol burn. Not too complex but smooth and pleasing. Friday, February 3, 2006

3.6 Kaiun Junmai Ginjo Sake The style really is Junmai Ginjo. Which is the second best style. This was about $30.00 a bottle. Light floral smell. A very smooth palate very fragrant and not too sweet and smooth. The alcohol is well hidden and sneaks up on you. I got this at Rangetsu in Orlando. It came in a red cornhusk wrapped packaged. 2.6 Takatenjin (Shrine of the Village) Junmai Ginjo Sake Clear color. Fruity aroma masked by the rice alcohol which is evident, if not overpowering, in the flavor. Some sweetness trying to come through, too. My rating is a bad start for this sake, considering my opinion of the style. The lesson is, never go by someone else’s rating. Try it yourself and judge.
