Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: Blackbeardís Breakfast
A little syrupy for me. Nice flavor but a little bit cloying as well with the sweetness. Plenty of bitterness just not overlly palatable.

Heavy Seas Peg Leg
Heavy Seas Peg Leg has a lot of competition which makes rating it tough. Definitely dark pour with a moderate tan head. Taste is malty as expected but nothing special. Peg Leg is just average in a sea of great Imperial stouts. Consider it decent, but not a standout.

Heavy Seas Smooth Sail
Draft at The Irish Pol. Hazy golden orange pour with lasting white foam which left a busy skyline of lace. Deep full body (almost literally a heavy sea) filled with toasted malts and earthy citrus hops. Mild orange pineapple. Apricot. Strawberry. Mango. Smooth muted flavors. Not too sweet or harsh but certainly full. Big but not not harsh. Also, unfortunately, not all that flavorful. But not actually all that bad.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: Blackbeardís Breakfast
650 bottle from Bruisin Ales in Asheville, shared amongst the Buzhardt bunch. Black pour, brown head. Wow! Bourbon, chocolate, big roast, caramel. This is excellent. Nit picking says it could be a bit smoother. The blend is very well done, full bodied with some alcohol presence. Very enjoyable! 16.8

Heavy Seas Double Cannon
12oz bottle from the Shell station in Harrison, OH, just west of Cincinnati -- they had a solid OH presence, and neighboring states (some Three Floyds available) in a large cooler. Random $80 brew purchase there. Off amber pour with no head. Sweet, tangy, spicy. Much more fruity in the nose than in the flavor. Pine shows through in the taste, although it becomes more "belgian-y". Overlayered as if super dry hopped. The blend is solid. Some alcohol presence. 13.4

Bottle - from IPA sampler pack. To start, Iíll admit I am NOT a fan of "session beers", but it came with the others. Medium golden - amber. Clear. Quite hoppy aroma. OK, this oneís pretty good. Not much malt, but definitely hoppy. There is a slight diacetyl note in this one, which nicked a point or 2 from taste.

Pours s clear orange with a giant but short lived white head. Smells of caramel and biscuits. Taste is sweet and moderately bitter - first biscuit malts followed by a bit of peach then grass and a bit of spruce. Hoppier than most dopplebocks without becoming like an ipl. Very good.

Pours medium orange with a one finger white head with nice lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, herbal hops, grassy hops, light bready malts, floral hops, and light sweet malts. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, moderately bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, well balanced IPA.

tap at Hoppy Gnome - Pours black with a lasting tan head. It smells of dark roast malt, chocolate, and mild coffee notes. The flavor is sweet and chocolate rich with roast malt character. The hop bitterness is mild. Itís mostly on the sweet side. Full bodied. Bourbon? Minimal. Itís very tasty though.

appearance: clear medium to light gold, short fizzy white head. aroma: botanical nose, with fresh cut grass and floral notes, hint of pepper. taste: some white bread and cracker, then bitter and grassy hops, hint of pepper. finish: clean and crisp, lingering herbaceous notes. notes: Not a bad pils. I prefer their Small Craft Warning, but this had a great palate. Draught at Urban BBQ in Rockville, Maryland.

Heavy Seas / Troegs Hoppelbock
Bomber from Spirits Jackson. Poured a super chunky looking clear deep reddish-amber with a dense light beige creamy head. Aroma is malty, notes of raisin skins, cardboard, nut, dates, newspaper and a hint of citrusy hops. Flavor is a bit more crisp with a quick snap of hops in the beginning followed by medium toast, biscuit, raisin and date skins, some chocolate malts and a touch of yeast. This drinks a lot bigger than an 8% beer.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: Plank IV
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt 6oz bottle into a tulip glass. Appearance: The body has a deep dark garnet color with a slight haze. This is topped with a small, slow fading head of tan foam. The head just holds a wispy this layer and lacing is very slick. Smell: The aroma brings notes of dark fruit, earthy dank wood and sweet candy like malts to the nose. I also get a light nutty note with some funky yeast and very faint herbal hops way off in the background. Taste/Palate: The flavor has a big full bodied hit of sweet fruity malts with earthy and almost spicy woody flavors. Dark fruits like plums, raisins and dried black cherries mix with dank oak, maple and cedar like woody notes. Hop flavor is very mild and the finish is on the sweeter side.

Bottle from beer club. Generally I don't care for beer with heavy fruit overtones, but this one was very good. Poured copper with a heavy white head. Orange and grapefruit nose which followed thru to taste along with mango giving it a little bit of sweetness. Slight bitter but sweet finish. Good summer beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle. The beer is a cazy copper with a white head of foam. Good retention. The aroma has a big citrus influence. I was able to pick out the blood orange almost immediately. The lemon plays a nice role in this as well, by adding a bit of tartness along with the juicy notes. Mildly bitter. The beer is more of a sweet, juicy beer. Medium body and medium carbonation. Prickly mouthfeel. Very nice beer.

Golden color, puffy meringue of head. The aroma is pure juice: tangerine and mango. All of the sweet fruit flavors with zero of the bitterness. For a juice that would be fine, but for a beer there needs to be a bit more balance. There is a touch of Belgian/grains of paradise prickliness but itís very mild and at the tail end. Pleasant though; I would put this under the nose of any non-beer drinker. The flavor is borderline cloying. Itís very sweet, nearly saccharine, and not a whit of bitter balance. The aroma can forgive this, but the flavor has an inauthenticity I canít put my finger on. It tastes like a fruit additive. The feel is very mild: medium body.
