Pint on tap at Jefferson Social for $5. Very dark brown, near-black color. Good thin tan head, leaving nice thicker lace. Really strange flavor up front. Kind of nutty, something like olive. Whatever strange thing I was tasting on the first sip quickly fades after a few more sips, though. Moderate roast, some dark chocolate, light mocha. Moderate bitter taste, lighter to moderate sweet. Medium to bigger body, kind of velvety and chewy. Lighter carbonation, mild slick texture. Nice chewiness to the texture. Overall, solid, but the off-flavor comes back... Something like brass? I must be imagining that because I saw the bartender dip the faucet in the head, that canít be right. In any case, with the mysterious unusual flavor put aside, it seems like a pretty solid chewy porter. Sort of reminds me of Founders, with the big, full body.

Heavy Seas 20 Year Storm 3.9
(Bottle) Reddish brown body with small tan head that dissipates to a beige ring on the glass. Aroma is sweet; notes of bourbon, fig, vanilla, lightly spiced. Medium body, very soft mouthfeel. Flavor of bourbon, lots of wood, vanilla, light caramel, dark fruit; warm and noticeable alcohol; some bitterness in the finish to help balance the sweetness.

[My bottle (660ml) shared with JoeMcPhee, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a deep golden-orange with an average size frothy off-white head. Aroma and flavour are yeasty along with some wood, herbs, fruit, alcohol and candi sugar. Average to medium bodied. A bit too sweet, just good.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: Yule Tide (2015) 3.4
Big bomber bottle served into a tulip glass. Fridge chilled. One finger head disappears pretty quickly. Beer is a dark mahogany color. Head is off white in color. Some light lacing. Lots of sweet spiced rum in the nose. Also lots of sweet malts in the aroma as well. Taste is bready and sweet malts. Plenty of ginger. Definitely exhibits character of a dopplebock as well as rum barrel notes. A medium to full bodied beer with light to average carbonation. Over all an interesting take on a double bock being barrel aged. Well done for the style. Overall a worthwhile beer to try but honestly not blown away by it. Seems to be consistent with a lot of Heavy Seas brews.

Heavy Seas Deep Six 3.9
Bottle. Heavy Malt aromas of toasted cereal, dark chocolate and mild coffee, light herbs and earth for the hops and yeast, with faint charcoal and vanilla in the background. Head is small, frothy, brown with spotty and slippery lacing and good legs, and is almost fully diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy, with a soft to lively carbonation and a sticky finish. A perfectly balanced Porter.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 22 ounce bottle. Appearance: Pours a deep amber with good clarity, tan head. Aroma: sweet rum, pure and simple. Taste: Creamy texture gets into vanilla tones, and some big banana split like tastes. Very good. Palate: Mouthfeel is medium-bodied and light on the palate with active carbonation. Heavy Seas Red Sky at Morning 3.9
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/20/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light vanilla, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light vanilla, and yeast earthiness. Light-medium peppery yeast and oak spice on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from yeast/oak spice as well. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall the is a very nice wine barrel aged imperial saison. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from One Stop Market, Haverhill, MA. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, bread, dough. Appearance is beautiful, clear amber with no sparkle, finger-width off-white foamy head with poor retention and leggy lacing. Taste is moderately sweet with alcohol thatís a little bit astringent, then caramel end. Palate is medium bodied with average texture, lively late carbonation at tip of tongue and crisp slightly bitter finish. Overall, very true to style--straightforward maltiness.

From a cask at the 2016 Atlanta Cask Ale Festival. Very dark body with a thin bubbly head. Creamy, near full body. Very light smoke in the flavor and virtually none in the aroma which is more sweet and malty. Moderately strong flavor for style. O: recommended.

Clear reddish copper hue with minimal ring of white head. Sweet, smooth, and a little boozy. Big malty sweet finish. Earthy bitterness for a little balance, but mainly a vanilla sweetness. Not bad at all for a maltbomb.

16oz can. Filtered orange body. Thin white head. Pretty straight up lager. Sweet, sort of sugary cheap feel, mild noble hop balance. Not as sessionable as a macro, and not as flavorful as a micro. Undesirable. Score seems really generous, I would never buy this beer again.

12 oz bottle with a BB date stamp of Oct. 2015 purchased earlier in the day at a World Market. Pours a very dark red-brown looking black and opaque in the shaker pint glass. Decent head and some lacing. Excellent mouthfeel despite indications of high ABV: very smooth and full. The aroma too is quite nice. While I certainly like the flavor it is about average, for style. Overall: a bit disappointing given the brewery and the favored style.

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: The GreatíER Pumpkin 2.7
Poured into a snifter. Nothing better than a pumpkin beer and football. 3.25 A: Clear orange amber color. I didnít get much of a head on this. Quickly falling frothy beige with a wisp or two of lacing. 3.5 S: Pumpkin spiciness with ginger and cinnamon leading the way. Allspice and a touch of pepper. The bourbon barrel is pretty weak in this. You really have to look for it to find it. Just a light earthiness and a hint of oak. 3.0 T: The bourbon is much, much more apparent in the taste to the point where it almost controls the beer. Big earthiness, leather, mineral, and melon. Oak, vanilla, and a touch of tannic astringency. Again some pumpkin spiciness as mentioned above. Not a lot of sweet maltiness. 3.5 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Light creaminess and smooth. 3.0 D: Ehhh, itís nothing special. The bourbon is too weak in the nose and too strong in the taste. This needs a bigger malty backbone to do well in a barrel. ★ 978 characters DavoleBomb, Oct 26, 2014

Heavy Seas Uncharted Waters: Yule Tide (2015) 3.7
Ginger, cherry, banana, clove, molasses and some boozy sugar in the aroma; cloudy brown color, reddish tinge and a dense khaki-colored head; caramelized banana and clove with a bit of spicy ginger in the middle and sweet cherry-like fruitcake in the finish (probably from the rum barrel aging) along with a bit of warming spicy rum alcohol bite; medium to medium-full body, smooth texture; this beer is really quite good, the wiezenbock definitely comes through and everything else is complementary without being overbearing.
