Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 25.08.16. Almost ebony. Foamy and persistent beige head and lacing. Complex aroma of berries marinated in sherry, cream liquor, caramel and medium dark malt. Similar taste, with soft liquorice in aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel.

Murky dark brown, thin beige head shows nice persistence and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is in the likes of a dark fruits cake: molasses, dark/dried fruits, sugar. I’m also detecting a hint of coffee. Alcohol is detectable but not too aggressive. Taste reflects the aroma; the beer is obviously on the sweet side but pleasantly so, with a hint of spiciness in the finish. Again alcohol is detectable but not over the top, brings a warming feel. Full body, light crispness, nicely creamy mouthfeel. Good

Brown color. High carbonation. Surpringly light malty and yeast aroma with some chocolate notes. Rich caramel flavor, milk chocolate, some spicy phenols, a bit fruity. Very smooth and sweet, but not overly so. Good beer.

Superb. Beercraft at its finest. Bread, floral, grass, herbs, cheese, raisin. Brown, hazy body, frothy, tan head. Lightly sweet and sour, medium bitter. Amazing! Full body, thick feel. Average carbonation, abrupt finish.

At home, 2015 bottle (33cl). Direct comparison tasting with Westvleteren 12. Pour: dark, dunkel red, purplish, clear. Medium carb, good foam. Nose: dried fruits, sweet, dades&raisins, brown sugar / molasses, malts. Taste: first - dried fruits, dry minerals, alcohol is certainly present; mid - slight bitterness, malts; after - sirup and molasses, very pleasant. Mouthfeel: Sirupy thick consistency, aggressive carbonation and bitterness. Verdict: Very pleasant, sweet and sirupy. The alcohol is a bit too dominant to my taste.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Appearance is a hazy brown with a brief tan head that dissipates with no lacing at all. Nose is a wonderful blend of caramel, fruits and a little hint of chocolate. Medium body with lively carbonation. Very complex, medium sweetness, lightly bitter. Long finish starts sweet and ends with a little bitter. Very nice!

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip. Color is a hazy amber and it has a moderate, foamy tan head made up of tiny bubbles. Zero lacing. Floral and fruity aromas with some caramel. Medium-light body, a bit thin, with spice and sweet-alcohol taste. Finish is rather abrupt. Rather uninteresting.

dark chocolate-brown beer and cloudy. Significant level of carbonation, as happens to many of the beers of the genre. Crown comprehensive and lasting foam, which helps to carbon despite the high alcohol content. Leaves traces defined as rings attached to glass. sweet and fruity aroma. Notes jujube, fig and prune, on background of roasted malt, freshly baked bread, nuts and caramel. sidebars fainter chocolate and coffee. Body medium-high pulling robust

Pours clear amber with a big off-white head, some lacing. Nose of caramel, zest, spice, toast, baguette, a bit of fruit and yeast. Tastes medium sweet with some carbonation sourness following it up, almost no bitterness. Medium body, high carbonation, very drinkable. Lovely and dangerous - too drinkable for the amount of ABV.

Pours deep ruby-brown with a big frothy tan head, hardly any lacing. Nose of toast, maple syrup, caramel, raisins, rum, spice, yeast, candied zest, panettone. Taste is medium to high sweetness backed up just by high carbonation (hardly any bitterness). Medium body, rather thin for the ABV, high alco warmth on finish. Excellent but overrated (IMHO some De Struise or Straffe Hendrik quads are way better).

Lesser version of Rochefort 10, but still an amazing beer! Aroma is fruity but slightly more sour. Taste is complex. Dark fruits, spices, caramel, chocolate... But less pronounced than the 10.

Bottle. Pours dark hazy brown with tan head. Aroma is complex and fruity with dried fruits like dates, figs, raisins, liquorice, caramel, dark and roasted malts yet sweet. Taste is even more complex with malt, cane sugar, dried fruits, date, fig, raisin, apricot, liquorice, caramel and molasses. Finish is surprisingly dry and carbonation lively and hides alcohol well. A wonder!

BBE 25.1.2011, eli 6 vuotiasta tavaraa. En ole tuoreempaa koskaan maistanut, joten todella vaikea vertailla. Ihan pirteä tapaus tämäkin, valkoista vaahtoa omassa lasissa reilusti. Hajussa banaania, maku banaaninen, hiilihappoinen, hieman alkoholinen.

330 ml bottle. Solid brown body with a tawny highlight at the edge and a creamy off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Aromas of dark plums, raisins, dark bread, lemon and spice. Taste kicks off with light dried fruit before a more substantial note of plums, prunes, dates, brown sugar and mixed spice ramps up. Substantial though not thick body. Long finish with a slightly sweet fruity aftertaste. Pretty great Trappist beer.

330ml @ home. Hazy dark golden to brown, with big head. Aroma of resin and dried fruits; figs. Taste is sweet, resins, figs and caramel. Taste is weaker than the 8 and 10 and so is the taste of alcohol. But I someways its more fresh and light to drink.

Served in a tulip from a 330ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy very dark chestnut colour with a thick light beige head, plenty of lacing in the glass. Aroma is winey, dark fruits, a hint of molasses and clear alcohol. Taste is mainly dark fruits and winey, resembles a port at the finish - warming, fruity and yet again, very alcoholic. Medium body with medium carbonation and clear alcoholic aftertaste. Observing the comments I’ve expected it to be something completely out of this world but am quite disappointed... The strength of the beer is clearly present from start to finish in a form of a very detectable alcohol - in the aroma, the taste and the aftertaste. I bet if this kind of beer was produced by anybody else but Trappists, it would’ve been slaughtered for being too heavily laced with alcohol...

Bottle. Dark golden to brown, hazy with huge nice and long lasting head. Very nice, but light, aromas of resin, dried fruits and yeast. Very pleasant in taste, extremely well balanced. Medium to full body, alcohol very well hidden, just some warming in the finish, maybe little bit too much carbonated. Sweet in the beginning with delicate sour in the finish. Interesting and very good.

330ml bottle. Dark pour with a thick lingering head. Deep flavours with spices, dried fruits (raisins and dates in particular) and a sweet chocolatey note. Finishes like a port: fruity and boozy. The body is quite carbonated and perhaps thinner than the strength would imply, and there’s nothing done to hide the strength.

Pours in hazy brown and covered by a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is fruity and malty with a hint of alcohol. Taste bouquet is very complex and delicious. Starts off with a soft malty touch which is instantly followed and twisted over by fruity and spicy notes. Finish brings out some burnt flavors and even dark chocolate. High alcohol level is well balanced and precisely set on the right line. Eight is Great.

Pours a ruddy brown from a bottle with a quick-foaming cream-colored foamy head, just as quickly dissipating. Not much of a nose that I’m picking up, even though it’s rather warm after sitting out for a while. Flavor is dried fruits: cherries, plums, a little raisin, even apricot. Very effervescent in the mouth, almost too much so. A little alcohol burn. Good beer.

W aromacie zbożowo, owocowo - figi, rodzynki, białe owoce - i drożdżowo. Słodko i całkiem przyjemnie.

Pours in all hazy and with a nice creamy two-fingers on top. The flavors really turn you around. Spicy Belgian yeast profile and loads of fruitiness. Dried plums and apricots. Sweet malts come in with light touch of alcohol. Pretty light palate and easy to drink so the glass was empty in a matter of minutes.

From bottle. Pour a deep brown with little head, though carbonation is very evident.

BBD 8/1/16. Pours a slightly cloudy medium amber with a nice dash of garnet. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Outstanding nose of light caramel with a slight char, raisins, figs, hints of plum and a very subtle hint of clove over a biscuit base. Light body that is smooth. Superb carbonation / body balance. Light effervescence arrives in the middle and gains intensity resulting in a prickly finish. The flavor profile is very good but lacks the complexity and intensity to be outstanding. Separation is a bit lacking but the flavors of the nose can be discerned. It begins a bit charred then flows to light fruit and caramel. Bitterness is virtually absent. The finish reveals a bit of clove.
