Feb. ’16. A 0.33 l traditional fat little Belgian bottle, a gusher with a delay, these are the trickiest. :) Very hazy brown copper hued body, actually very pale for the style, with big head that went down very soon. Aroma of alcohol, wood, sweet dark fruit, fine but not too strong or complex. Flavor was lightly sweet, lightly acidic with an instant and durable alcohol bite. Fruity, liquory, even chocolate if you stretch imagination a lot. However, very yeasty in a stale way, which was bothering. Otherwise relatively smooth and full bodied, but not as much as one would expect for 14%. Longer finish, with quite less alcohol and warming than on the beginning. Sweet malty and yeasty here, too. Okay, pleasant, but I was not impressed at all. I was seeking for any complexity that that amazing quads have. And what’s with Alvinne and all that weird yeast? It’s not good, get rid of it! I remember you guys having some nice beers, now I’m avoiding you...

Alvinne Morpheus Tripel
Feb. ’16. A 0.33 l traditional fat little Belgian bottle. It poured very hazy, shiny orange body with tiny and very short living head killed by the fizzy body. Weird. Lightly sour, vinous, then sweet fruity, but above all, especially pungent pineapple and finally alcoholic aroma. The latter reminded to a good brandy or some fruity liquor. Complex but a bit overwhelming, also with a very intensive urinal off note. No overreacting, especially as it opened up a bit. Weird. Flavor was less intensive, only a bit sweet, although nose indicated the opposite. Mostly bitter with high carbonation emphasized that feeling. Quite yeasty in a totally weird way, I guess that’s morpheus, along with some herbal, spicy...thing. Alcohol was well hidden, except in the nose, as mentioned. Medium in body but with an extremely long finish where bitterness survived the most. Weird :) and a slow-going brew, however with every sip my palate got used to it a bit more, although the nose suffered inverse proportionally. Quite hard to drink, but even harder to rate. Has some qualities for sure, although it really could be described like a bit infected brewpub ale. Did I mention it was totally weird? I guess most of the raters who blamed the bottle/batch just didn’t like it. Nor I am a fan but will remember it for sure. At least I was introduced with this unique yeast cultivate, although they really didn’t have to leave so much of it in the bottle!

Disparate head over still, cloudy ruby-brown beer. Vinous nose, red fruit, alcohol and fusels. More of the same from the nose, plus chocolate and chiliheat (would go well in a mole), especially backthroat. Lots of flavours, yet not really deeply complex. Capsaicineheat, alcoholditto, very low carbonation, but very slick to oily. Nice, but a bit easy for such a big beer.

Almost no head; fully hazy dull-reddish amber beer. Very alcoholic nose, sherry obvious, old wine, wood. Alcohol, fusels, more sherry, barrels obvious too. Vinous, dried red fruit, sharpish. Alcoholheat, medium to better bodied. Feels somehow better carbonated than its dead looks. One to sip. Lots of character, the sherry is dominant;- Txs to Mathieu & Louis!

Flaska från Etre Gourmet. Bärnstensfärgad, mycket men fint sediment, lågt skum.

Bottle at home. Bit of a gusher in classic Alvinne style. Deep golden with some little particles drifting around. Some funk, sweet malts and toffee, hay, lots of fruit skins, grapefruit, marmalade. Really massive bitter herbal and grassy hops. Over medium sweet, light sour and very bitter with a long lasting puckering bitter finish. Over medium bodied with soft oily feel. It’s interesting, but the bitter finish is a bit over the top. There’s a huge contrast between that and the nice aromas.

Taste is sour-ish dry, sorrel, sour red berries, soda powder, berry skin, sour raspberries, weeds, citrus acid, grass, minerals, grain. Medium bitterness, dry sour-ish mouthfeel. Alvinne The Oak Melchior Double Barrel Aged
Cloudy and opaque, medium brown body with a lousy head consisting of some big bubbles. Does not look inviting. The strong aroma, however, is very inviting indeed, with lovely notes of dark fried fruits, lightly roasted malt, some burnt sugar and hints of barnyard. The very strong flavour can be described in the same way, with the addition of a huge amount of alcohol. Moderate sweet taste with a moderate bitter, sharp and alcoholic finish. Full-bodied, oily texture. A nice one, but a bit too violent.
