Hazy golden, small head. Quite sour start, vinegar type. Bit sharp and not much more than the sour golden malts. Nice body though, soft carbonation and solid plucky sourness, getting into your cheeks. Some fruit addition would make this great. (33cl bottle from Belgian Beer Shop Leuven, I think)

Alvinne Cuvée de Mortagne Banyuls
Banyuls barrel aged version of Cuvée de Mortagne, at GBF. Off-white, loose and bubbly head over a misty, deep amberish bronze beer. Rich, perfumey bouquet of marzipan, biscuit, amaretto (but probably just the Banyuls), candied orange, cognac, caramel. Candied fruit sweetness in the onset with hints of red apple, pineapple and apricot, medium carbo, oily and somewhat vinous mouthfeel, supple, sweet caramelly malt middle with a mild toasted bitterish edge before some drying tannins enter along with the Banyuls flavor, a bit marzipan- or plum-like and sweet but not too dominating; somewhat wry finish because of alcohol. Intense and interesting, multi-layered sipper, liked it.

Alvinne Cuvee d’Erpigny Pineau Des Charentes
At GBF. Egg-white, moussy, lacing head over a misty peach blonde beer with orangey hue. Fruity, quite intense nose of gooseberry, redcurrant, orange, vanilla, damp cellar, woody tannins, white wine, apricot. Estery onset, strong gooseberry and passion fruit flavors mixing sweet and sour, softish carbo and somewhat vinous mouthfeel, caramelly malt sweet core, while tartness increases towards the finish as in a wine barrel-aged beer, but less dry, tannins and sweet grapey Pineau adding a new flavor in the end, lingering in the throat after swallowing without any astringency. I guess you have to like Pineau de Charentes to begin with but one does not come across a Pineau-aged beer every day and this was a layered and interesting beer to sample.

Pinkish hazy red. Pours a small white head that disappears shortly after. Inviting smell of grassy sourness and cherry fruitiness. Tastes of cherry, cookiedough, maybe a bit raspberry as well. Also hints of oak and horseblanket. Lacticity sticks pleasantly to the uvula, gentle carbonation. Great balance between fruitiness and tarty sour. More cookiedough and funk in the aftertaste. Great beer to drink on a hot summer day, love it.

Thank you for sharing! Sampled draft @ Gents Bierfestival 2016. Very sweet but in an old yeast fashion, raw dough, overly gravy, boozy, banana, caramel, boozy plastic. Not a fan, too gravy, stale yeast, toffee like etc. Not sure what happened, I quite like the base beer.

Draught Small yellowish head over muddy orange-pink beer. Fruity, almonds, kumquat. Sweet-fruity, human sweat, alcoholsweetness. Very sticky, alcoholheat. Not really my taste. And I wonder what Pineau barriques were used, as I’ve had other flavours from that drink (which can be marvellous, if the cognac is really good).

Alvinne Cuvée de Mortagne Piment d’Espelette
Pours unclear brown. No head. (sounds a bit like a joke, after several people still refuse to drink them because of gushers ) . Smell is rather weak, bit sweet, rather complex, some dark fruit notes. Taste is very sharp. Boozy though, really, really boozy ! Sharp alcohol in front , very spiced ending. The burning of the throat makes it to be like a very boozy alcoholic bomb ( 40 ABV-style thing, but of poor quality if it burns like this ) . Of course, this isn’t a bad quality brew, and the burns are from the peppers, but still, this is how you get to experience this taste. No traces left of the wine barrel. Too bad spicyness is the only clear taste aspect of this beer. it’s too much ( being a beer, it would make a nice pasta perhaps ) . certainly fun to try, and interesting, but there should be more balance in any beer that uses peppers. take as an example Totem Zipacna. Or overkill it even more by balancing it out by another extreme , out-of-balance aspect, like Three floyd’s bourbon the muerte ( far too sweet and far too spiced = interesting tasteclash ) . this one however, makes me left uncertain. I certainly appreciate it, as it is unique. I respect it, since it is well made. I do not like it though, as it is far to unbalanced spiced.

Alvinne / Laugar Ich Bin Ein Berliner Kriek
One of several Berliner Weisse variations made at Alvinne in collaboration with Laugar, this one with sour cherries added. Medium thick, light off-pinkish head leaving a veil over the liquid and a moussy rim on the edges, residing over a bright vermillion red, clear beer, a pleasure to behold, with lively strings of bubbles here and there; turns instantly cloudy with a more fuchsia-like hue with sediment added. Aroma of sour cherries, lemon juice, some wet wood, raspberry vinegar, raw rhubarb, pomegranate, redcurrant, rosé wine, unsugared fruit yoghurt, funky hint of stale sweat but fitting in well. Crisp, acidic onset, with both puckering lemon sourness and quite vivid red fruit tartness, sour cherries obviously but also flavors which remind me more of red berries and slight pomegranate; pleasantly carbonated, fairly vivid but with tiny bubbles, creating a light, crisp sensation in combination with a soapy, lightly bready underlying ’wheatiness’ and lactic sourness; the lemony acidity runs through till the end but becomes a bit more sedate by the time it reaches the finish, while the yoghurty lactic sourness persists unabated and in combination with the sour fruit, dries the finish in a most pleasant and thirst quenching way. Underneath all this, a very brief and subtle touch of earthy hops can be felt, along with a touch of oak, supporting the dryness of the finish but otherwise remaining subtle and in the background. I liked that raspberry version a lot and this even more (also because it is a tad more ’clean’ than the raspberry version): both are very pleasant, crisp, refreshing sours. To which extent they qualify as ’Berliner Weisse’ can be a matter of debate, as these beers traditionally do not make use of either real fruit or oak ageing - I guess one could refer to this as a Belgian influence in a German style, or how the craft beer movement constantly expands, hybridizes and innovates beer styles...

Alvinne Pur Sang De Mortagne
Wysycenie niskie, drobne.
Bardzo nietypowe Belgian Strong Ale, bliższe czerwonym winom niż piwu. Długie leżakowanie w beczce po Bordeaux i dodatek wiśni dodały kwaskowatości, tanin i zmieniły to słodko estrowe przecież piwo w trunek z pogranicza Krieka, Flanders Red Ale...

Alvinne / Six Degrees North Chain Reaction
Bottle from Salt Horse, Edin. Poured with yeast sediment so very cloudy. First half pour was very pale, this is getting into a more amber colour. No head to speak of and no lacing here. Aroma has a a sweet, candied lemon aroma. Hints of farmyard funk. Some real funky and fruity notes. Light blueberry. Cider vinegar note. Bit musky and sweaty in the glass. Some orange peel. Really nice, layered nose. Taste starts sweet then very quickly a vinegar sharpness kicks in. Bit of a spewy note biting at the cheeks. Yoghurty lactic level. Very light malt. Real emphasis on the lemony citrus character with a long, tangy finish. Very light carbonation and a medium-weight mouthfeel. Juicy finish right at the end. A great sour with more body and flavour than i’m used to. Quality!

On tap at Patrick’s. An unclear ruby red beer with a pinkish white head leaving lacing. There’s lots of raspberry in the aroma, with a lightly funky, milky touch. Nice indeed but a bit one dimensional. The flavor is pretty much the same, but with a good dash of lemon added. It’s tart and medium bodied, with a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting raspberry and lemon finish. A refreshing one indeed, but quite one dimensional. 160811

A very dark brown color with virtually no head to speak of. Aroma is sour, fruits, molasses, vinegar, and a bit of wine. Taste is also sour, fruity, nutty, sour strawberries, some grapes, and a tad of oak. A medium body, a slick texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long and very sour but nonetheless palatable and enjoyable. Overall the beer is good, I have never been a sucker for sour ales but this one is actually pleasant.

500 ml bottle at home. Pours hazy - very hazy - murky brown, with a small pale beige head. Upon opening small gusher. Caramel malt and sherry in the nose - makes me somewhat think of the Cuvée De Mortagne PX. Also alcohol heat prickling the eyes. Medium body, high in alcohol heat. A tad sour and burning the throat. Taste is evolved malt, some oxidized notes, sweet PX sherry, sticky bittersweet hop. A bit of a bomb, and perhaps drank it too young.
