Legacy Hedonism Red
14-Apr-14 (12-oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Otter, thanks Jeremy!)
This Red Ale pours a hazy, amber-red body with half an inch of light-tan head that settles to a ring. The nose is malty, very toasty, earthy, mildly sweet, and somewhat caramely, with a bit of piney hops in the background. Itís the same on the palate, the malt base is very toasty, but also caramely and lightly sweet. Thereís moderate earthiness and lightly bitter, piney and citrusy hops to offer complexity and balance to the prominent malt. The beer is medium-plus in weight, medium in carbonation, slightly tangy, and smooth on the palate. Overall, itís pretty standard for the style, but itís a style I like and I definitely enjoyed this one.

22oz bottle. Poured a deep copper hue with a one and a half finger fluffy white head, that had good retention and lacing. Nose is dominated by piney hops with touches of citrus and honey. Earthy hops dominate the flavor along with floral hops. Slight maltiness comes through before the bitter hop finish. Mouthfeel is sticky, well carbonated, crisp.

Smells just like orange marmalade- this oneís overwhelming. Color is hazy yellow. Taste has some lemon, but dominated by orange marmalade. Not much need to drink more of this unless you pour it on toast.

Looks dreadful for a beer that touts itself as "Belgian-Style," pouring thin with very little head. Smells powerfully nondescript, like a roided-out Blue Moon. The flavor is mild yet with a spicy, yeasty finish, tart and breadlike and thankfully dry. Finishes with a brush of bitterness but primarily dough, like an unglazed doughnut eaten after sipping hot lemon water. But the texture is to die for; no trace of the alcohol can be found. None. Amazing feat for a 9-percenter. Drinks like a Spring Witbier, and makes for a good diversion on a rainy night. (3/17/09)

Clear gold beer, good white head. Smooth aromatic malt with a middle note of drying spice. It then blooms briefly in to a little citrus before a sharp effervescent finish. Unusual and quite drinkable.

Poured into pint glass. A: Used motor oil color. Two inches of frothy light brown head with excellent retention and quite a bit of lacing. Nice cascade going for a while. S: Oatmeal is the biggest component of the aroma. Not any hops content. A bit fusely and a bit of alcohol. T: Tastes like slightly sour nothing. I donít know what the hell made this dark because their is no crystal malt or roasted barley component in the taste. This sucks. M: Light body, really light body like water. Carbonation is fine, but thatís about it. D: This is slightly sour water. It fucking sucks. How the hell does ANYBODY like this? Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 06-05-2009 01:11:31

Poured into a pint glass. I think itís funny that itís categorized as an amber ale, yet it says amber lager on the bottle. A: Couldnít get much of a head no matter how hard I tried in my freshly washed glass. Orange amber color. Incredibly horrible retention of the head that I did get and minimal lacing. Fine particles floating throughout. S: Sweetish caramel dominates. A tad bit of grassy hops. Fresh. T: Pretty much just crystal malt. Not much else going on. No hop flavor and a minimal bitterness, which is good considering thereís no body. M: Light body. Undercarbonated. Not particularly smooth. Nothing here to make me happy. D: There isnít much reason to drink this unless you want to get drunk in a hurry. I wish I had a do-over for my 150th review. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 04-16-2009 00:09:02

The beer pours medium golden with a light white head. The aroma is light sweet and a bit syrupy and fruity like a Tripel is, but thin. The body of the beer is very thin as well, disappointing, but it is older. The flavors are sweet and end a bit tangy, not spicy though.

It pours deep amber in color with a great bubbly head on top. The aroma is light, a bit of syrupy sweetness from the honey and a bit yeasty. The body comes in very carbonated, it tastes like a lightly sweet soda almost after the carbonation settles.

ordered at the Brighton Beer Garden, 12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. So faint redish colored clear beer with think head. The aroma was a punchy sourness like cabbage and citrus hop. Odd but interesting on the smell. The taste was a lil sour to but with an herbal finish. Pretty dam different. I liked it but would not recommend for everyone

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark black pour with a thick and fluffy tan head. Very rich and roasty aroma with a nice amount of oatmeal and sweet cream notes as well. Big roasty flavor at the beginning with a bitter coffee middle. The oatmeal comes through mildly near the middle and gives a very subtle sweetness. Very thick and creamy with a bitter and lasting roasted aftertaste.

Bomber from Oak Tree. Pours light hazy amber with a 2 finger foamy white head. Aroma is primarily lightly spiced peach. Calling it as I nose it. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. The mouth feel is almost slick. The flavor is stone fruit with some yeast/spice. Citric comes forth. It is well balanced. Nice. Still sticking with the peachiness. That is not a bad thing. It drinks pretty good.

The look gives a huge, massive ice cream float head. Very dark cherry red. Slightly hazy but mostly clear. Looks nicely-bodied. Leaves a big spiderweb of lace. Has a thick amber smell. Roasted malt with a bitter amber aroma. Smells just like a bitter malt. Taste has bitter malt, but also a sweet cherry/berry sweetness. Nice for an amber, not overly bitter because of the sweet balance. The hops are bitter but only a slight counterpoint. Double bitter. Feels smooth and has a bit of viscosity; almost a cherry juice feel. A bit dry and leaves a big, bitter film. This is too bitter to knock back all night long, but a good one-off.

Tea nose with very pronounced menthol overtones. Clear tea colored, no head. Rose petal, menthol, clove, tea, honey, and violet flavor, very potpourri-ish. Clove and menthol lingers for a while. Very strange beer. The menthol is weird, but I can see myself getting used to it. I didnít get too tired of it after one bomber, but itís the kind of beer you donít want to overdo. Original.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber-red with a light khaki head. Nose is huge on the toffee and caramel. Flavor is interesting. I didnít get the sweetness I expected. Some sweet maltiness and caramel, but not much. Very bready. The alcohol is quite perceptible, despite not being terrible high. A bit of raisin and plum, perhaps. Medium in body and somewhat warming. Finish is a little sticky, a little bitter, a little sweet. Interesting. Not totally sure how I feel about this one. Decent, anyway.

How can a beer be both cloudy and sunny at the same time? Well this one is, with a bright sun-yellow color, but a cloudy appearance. Hazy. Has a thin layer of non-stick head. No lace. Nice wheaty/wit smell. Sweet smelling, with the orange/citrus coming through. Very fresh fruity smell. Subdued. Spicy, but not sour or pungent. Heavy orange fruit flavor. Itís a sweet, spicy witbier. Pretty standard wit. Nice aftertaste. Light like some kind of Tropicana Twister or some such drink. A little dry at the end. Nice and pleasant. Not much depth, but quite thirst quenching. A nice, "wet" and summery brew.

Nice beer but no way in hell is this a strong ale. Very tame stout with just mild sweetness. Pitch black, with a full tan head. Decent lacing that fades away pretty quickly. Nice nutty aroma, with some cocoa, apple peels and potato. Taste is light, chocolatey, toasty and super easy to sip on. Mouthfeel is really fun. Has an interesting slippery character to it if that makes sense. Like when I take a drink itís quick down the hatch and hardly any taste lingering around the mouth. Hard to believe itís 7.0%. Nice, easy drinking mellow oatmeal sotut.

22 oz. Clear copper with a small, fleeting head. Nose is orange marmalade, molasses and nutmeg. Taste is all the same blend with some caramel and a slightly tart citrus touch throughout. The earthy spice lingers in the almost-woody finish and has hints of bubblegum, cinnamon, coriander, chocolate and ginger. Light-medium body is thin, fairly smooth, and finishes spicy-dry. Not bad, but tastes more like a British Christmas Ale (which I like) with just a hint of Belgian yeast.
