TY KU Cucumber Sake 2.7
Bottle at Appellation Wines tasting. Pours clear pale yellow. Aroma of cucumber, marzipan and white sugar. Flavour of strong alcohol and more marzipan. Thin body with a sticky mouthfeel. Too strong and sweet for me.

Momokawa G Joy Junmai Ginjo Genshu Sake 3.7

Momokawa Organic Nigori Sake 3.2
$8.99 Bottle at Market Street Wine Shop uptown. Pours thick and completely cloudy. Light yellowish tinge to it. Pretty sure this didn’t come from a horse breeding facility, but it looks like it might have. Aroma of white rice, glue, fruit, coconut. Taste is smooth coconut and rice, light glue notes. Not my favorite nigori, but ok.

Moonstone Plum Sake 3.3
Bottle at a local sushi place. Probably a bad choice to pair with the sushi, but live and learn. Poured an almost entirely clear color with a very light hue of pink to it. Aroma is light sweet plum notes, a touch of pitted cherries. Flavor is a touch medicinal - it reminds me a bit too much of the flavoring put in cough medicine, drinkable though.

Momokawa Pearl Junmai Nigori Genshu Sake 3.7
First time rating sake here. Pours a milky white. Aroma is tropical fruits, almost like pina colada but not quite. Flavor is boozy tropical fruits and rice. I like it.

Momokawa Pearl Junmai Nigori Genshu Sake 3.3
Bottle. So, once again I will say up front that I am no sake connoisseur, but I’ll give it a go. Turbid, colloidal white with medium viscosity. Aroma is sweet, both fruity and...something else, grainy?... with boozy undertones. Wow, very dense creamy mouthfeel. Quite starchy, with apple fruit undertones and a very boozy finish. I’m not sure where this stands in the Nigori spectrum, but there was enough here to be interesting.

Momokawa Diamond Junmai Ginjo Sake 3.4

Momokawa Pearl Junmai Nigori Genshu Sake 3.6
Pour is very cloudy white pour with no head, still, aroma is fruit, some slight rice, hints of booze, touch of green apple. Taste was sweet white fruits, grape, some rice, booze, touch of apple, finishing slightly boozy. Pretty decent, on the sweeter side.

TY KU Junmai Ginjo Sake (Black) 2.9
Shampoo bottle purchased at the market. One of the coolest bottles I’ve seen in a while, and it sold me instantly, despite my complete lack of knowledge in sake. Clear pour with no head. Boozy aroma. Flavor is much smoother than the aroma suggests. Still, not the easiest drink here. Has a bit of an almond finish to it. I can see the peach now that I read it is there. Not bad.

TY KU Cucumber Sake 3.3
Sample at the Decatur Wine Festival. Clear, with a light green tint. The aroma is faint watermelon, distinct cucumber, and just a touch of acetone. Sweet flavor. Light body, crisp, and clean. This is a perfect treatment for a smooth, refreshing, and clean sake.

TY KU Junmai Ginjo Sake (Black) 3
Sample at the Decatur Wine Festival. Very clear, and no bubbles or head. The nose is vinegar and acetone, with some rose and syrup. Very sweet flavor. Light body, smooth and clean. The initial aroma is highly unpleasant, but by the end of the sample, it had grown on me considerably. Smooth, easy, and clean.

Fudo Myoo Junmai Ginjo Saké 3.1
Bottle. Notes are banana, booze, almost weizen bock like, honey, and nice. Flavors seem a bit off and not very refined.

TY KU Junmai Sake (Silver) 2.8
Bottle. Pours a clear gold-green with no visible bubbles or anything else for that matter. Nose is stone fruit, almonds, acetone, and a slight medical/iodine note. Dry and sharp on the tongue, with definite medicinal notes; some stone fruit and melon, but mostly crisp and acidic. Finish is warm and edgy. Prickly.

TY KU Coconut Nigori (Beige) 3.5
Sample at Kroger. Cloudy white color, with an immediate nose of coconut, and notes of almonds and grain alcohol. Sweet flavor, smooth, with no aftertaste. Light to medium body, silky, and smooth. This is a gimmicky idea, to add coconut, but it’s hard to deny that it’s tasty!

TY KU Junmai Sake (Silver) 2.8
Sample at Kroger. Clear and colorless. Nose is white bread and ethanol, with a touch of juniper and not much else. Sweet and bready flavor, with a slight bite. Light body, a little burn, and otherwise clean. This is an uneventful and boring sake. Not bad, just not much going on.

Fudo Myoo Nigori Saké 3.1
Bottle picked up on a whim at Whole Foods for $7. 04/20/2015. Pours cloudy white, like skim milk. Aroma is banana, subtle canned pineapple, touch of vanilla with creamy rice milk. Taste is creamy banana and sweet coconut, light yogurt with warming finish. Light medium body. A little rough and muted, but not bad for something at this price and easily available.

Momokawa Pearl Junmai Nigori Genshu Sake 3.6
Milky coconut milk type appearance. Coconut milk type aroma too incidentally, sweet. Thick creamy mouthfeel. 18% alcohol shows down the throat but doesn’t detract, not much on the tongue. Flavor is sweet and creamy, some fruitiness, then all suddenly interrupted by alcohol. I enjoyed the ’substance’ this sake had.

Moonstone Plum Sake 3.6
Super floral-y, tastes like the smell of a fresh bouquet, aftertaste a little perfume-y. Definitely plum taste, more in the beginning. I think it’s sweet, refreshing, and tasty.

Moonstone Asian Pear Sake 3.4
I’ve had this bottle of sake for quite some years now. I’d pretty much forgotten about it, but saw it tonight and thought what the heck. I don’t recall where I got this bottle, but I don’t think it was from when I toured the sake company in 2011. The sake pours to a chardonnay wine colored body with long lasting legs. The aroma is mostly floral rice and Jasmin. The flavor is floral rice with very subtle fruity pear and melon. Palate isn’t lingering or overbearingly sweet.

TY KU Coconut Nigori (Beige) 4.1
Bottle from the Pennsylvania State Store at a cost of around $16. Loved the cloudy appearance and the unfiltered rawness. Taste is slightly irregular but unique enough to be interesting. Definitely worth a try.

Momokawa Diamond Junmai Ginjo Sake 3.1
The wife picked up a bottle of this. Pours a clear almost water like clearness with some yellow. A big melon paper nose that I get in Sake. The flavor is dry, more melons, big dusty rice, funky way overripe fruit. Hmm. Very intense. Interesting.

Bottled. Nose of oxidized rice, licorice. Estery oxidized flavor, caramel, vanilla, rice pudding. Decent enough, though a bit old it would seem.

TY KU Coconut Nigori (Beige) 2.7
Bottle with Linh and family while in Maryland 2014. Pours a cloudy milky creme colored body. Aroma is sweet banana and coconut. Mouthfeel is what I imagine a very "unbalanced" sake tasting like - flavors of piña colada and overly sweet coconut juice clash with a cloying alcoholic booziness. Wasn’t a huge fan.

TY KU Junmai Sake (Silver) 3.2
Clear maybe a slight cloudiness. Sweet banana like flavoured penicillin I had as a child. Taste is a creamy smooth sweetness. Not bad for a Junmai.
