3 Italian Oasis Nutty Brown Ale The real name of this is "the Cleveland Brown." The pour is much darker than the typical brown to nearly black. If you were to look at it you would think you were gazing upon a Porter. The aroma is of sweet dark malts and nuts. The body was much thinner than I would have hoped. The taste had this odd caprylic note along with light coffee. It ended as a wet hop finish. Tuesday, May 21, 2013

3.7 Italian Oasis Cannon Amber On tap at the brewpub as part of a four-style sampler. The pour is amber-copper with an off-white lingering head and medium clarity. The nose is sweet marrying caramel malts with toffee and butterscotch esters. Hops played down. The body was medium. The taste is just as sweet as the aroma with a mild but clean hop finish. I liked this one the best of the four I tried. Tuesday, May 21, 2013

3.4 Italian Oasis Black Bear Stout On tap at the brewpub and part of the sampler set. The ABV on this is supposed to be around 7%. The pour is brown to charcoal black with a lasting tan head. The aroma is of coffee and dark malts with a subtle smoky character. The body was light to medium. The taste has all the dark malt flavors with a medium dry finish. Tuesday, May 21, 2013

3.3 Italian Oasis Moore Dam Ale On tap at the tavern as part of the four-style sampler. The ABV was reportedly around 4%. It pours a hazy, unfiltered pale yellow with a decent white head. On the nose are bread and biscuit malts and a slight barley grain touch. The body was light and came with a little acidity. The taste is clean and crisp with a briefly lingering hop finale and low bitterness. Easy to drink. Tuesday, May 21, 2013

2.6 Italian Oasis Bee Sting Comes to the table a murky hazy light golden with a smallish off white head that persists for a while. The aroma is sweet with bread and malty graininess with a honey sweetness as well as lemons and oranges and a whole lot of yeasty funkiness. The flavor hits with honey and yeasty phenols up front with a light malty sweetness coming in next then a lingering tartness to finish things up. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet tart kind of mouthfeel going on. The bartender told me this was their most popular seasonal that the patrons like the higher alcohol percentage. I found it muddled and uninteresting. Sunday, November 25, 2012

2.4 Italian Oasis Octoberfest On tap at the source as part of a sampler. Comes to the table a tawny golden brown with an off white head that displays great retention. The aroma is a real mess, I had to ask twice what beer I was drinking because I thought this might be a fruit beer. Extremely fruity nose with hints of bread and toffee and little to no hops. The flavor is sweet and fruity with some toffee and bread and a slight metallic flavor. Medium body with a light level of carbonation, and a sweet tart mouthfeel. Did they use a lager yeast at 70 degrees in this beer or just a fruity ale yeast? This is a horrible example of an Oktoberfest, call it an English pale ale and I would have rated it much higher. 2.4 Italian Oasis Black Bear Stout On tap at the source as part of a sampler. Comes to the table a solid dark brown/black color with a smallish off tan head that displays moderate retention. The aroma is caramel, roast, coffee, a hint of chocolate, with a bit of a lactic and metallic aromas. The flavor is sweet with some caramel off set by roasted coffee but ruined by some annoying lactic, metallic, and phenolic flavors. Little to no hop flavor. Medium body with a light level of carbonation, and a sweet roasty mouthfeel. A stout with its rich roasty aroma and flavor can hide lots of flaws, this one does not. I’m not sure if sanitation is an issue while brewing or if we have dirty taps lines here, but this one is a mess. Sunday, November 25, 2012

3.1 Italian Oasis Cannon Amber On tap at the source as part of a sampler. Comes to the table a cloudy medium amber color with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is toffee and caramel with hints of chocolate and a light earthy hop. The flavor is sweet with a bready toffee base with hints of caramel and chocolate and some faint earthy hops providing some balance. Medium to light body with a light level of carbonation, and a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. This was the pick of the litter today as it had the least amount of off flavors. Mediocre at best but provided the greatest drinkability. Sunday, November 25, 2012

2.7 Italian Oasis Moore Dam Ale On tap at the source as part of a sampler. Comes to the table a cloudy medium gold color with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is dominated by toffee and butter with faint earthy hops that almost provide some balance to the malty sweetness. The flavor is lightly fruity with a dominant toffee and butter flavor as well as some light plastic phenols. Medium body with a light level of carbonation, and a sweet syrupy mouthfeel. English in style this beer reminds me of the extract based home brews that I used to taste back in the 90’s, not very good at all. Sunday, November 25, 2012

3.5 Italian Oasis Coconut and Vanilla Bean Porter On tap at the brewpub in Littleton, VT. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is smooth vanilla beans up front with a light milky chocolate sweetness and some fresh coconut. A touch of roasts. Flavor is solid. Smooth vanilla beans and creamy, milky and dark chocolates up front with a fresh coconut in the middle. Roasts come on nicely and balance the creaminess of the malts well. Finishes smooth and dry with a light-medium bitterness from the roasts and a touch of hopping. Lengthy aftertaste following a creamy, medium body and a soft, medium-light carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid porter. A pleasant surprise when I got here as I wasn’t expecting much. Creamy, smooth, and balanced with a nice vanilla and coconut addition. Enjoyable. 1.9 Italian Oasis Cannon Amber In short: A dirty muddy yeasty mess with overripe fruits. Problematic. How: Tap at brewpub The look: Ugly cloudy dirty dark orange body topped by a small beige head In long: The light aroma shows a yeasty character with some ripe overripe fruits. Taste is very yeasty, dirty caramel, a wet cereals sensation, extra-ripe citrus, doughy. This is far from a crisp clean beer. This feels like a muddy yeasty dirty mess. Italian Oasis is not a great brewpub but they can do better, the stout was quite drinkable, but the Cannon is not their big gun. Thursday, September 3, 2009

2.8 Italian Oasis Black Bear Stout In short: A standard highly roasted pub stout. Sessionnable but forgettable. How: Tap at brewpub The look: Almost black body topped by a little tan ring of foam In long: A standard roasted nose. Taste is very roasted with a light cacao and light coffee flavours in the background. Malts had a cake-like flavour, an over-baked (burnt) cake. A light vegetable sensation but not enough to be really bothersome. Hops take the form of some green grass. Finish is rather bitter but most of it seems to come from the high roastiness. Not bad, but this is exactly the type of stout that most below-average make. Italian Oasis, a place where everybody is a cousin and nobody complains about your personal hygiene. 2.8 Italian Oasis Bee Sting My Bottom Line: Clovey weizen yeast and honeyed sweetness evaluate the doughy cereals in this slick-bodied Honey Wheat Ale. Further Personal Perceptions: -A ring of foam sits collapses into the dark, murky beige. This was served with a lemon wedge on the edge of the glass even though I didn’t ask for it. Probably killed the head too. -The feeble carbonation provide a strange mouthfeel for the style. -Light hop bitterness seals every sip, increasing drinkability. -This could have come together (which I find rare in these Honey Wheat beers), but the mouthfeel was again too disappointing to make this a wholly satisfying brew. On tap at the brewpub. Monday, June 29, 2009

2.8 Italian Oasis Black Bear Stout My Bottom Line: Roasted malts develop coffee connotations and bitterness, as light esters roam beneath this approachable yet unpolished Stout. Further Personal Perceptions: -There is no head at all atop the brown-hued blackness. -Lax carbonation and high dextrins make for a disappointing mouthfeel (for drinkability’s sake, anyway). -Powdery chocolate is tasted sometimes. -The finish is reasonably bitter, but there’s not much else going on there. On tap at the brewpub. Monday, June 29, 2009

2.8 Italian Oasis Cannon Amber My Bottom Line: Caramel sweetness provides a plump body for this muddled Amber Ale, as herbal, earthy hops offer a bit more bitterness than their Moore Dam has. Further Personal Perceptions: -A ring of foam tops the murky amber. -The flavor profile, like all beers I had there that day, was a tad chaotic. -Carbonation was smooth, but the dextrins took too much room, ultimately hindering drinkability. -Malts do not offer a lot of different flavors. On tap at the brewpub. Monday, June 29, 2009

2.8 Italian Oasis Moore Dam Ale My Bottom Line: Citrusy hops are balanced out by lightly caramelized cereal sweetness before timid wooden hop bitterness clinches this somewhat limp Pale Ale. Further Personal Perceptions: -A ring of foam circles the muddled amber. -The aroma is too feeble to be enticing. -Carbonation is quite soft and the mouthfeel is not crisp enough for the beer’s purposes. -This is still quite drinkable, but some improvement in the mouthfeel territory and more flavor clarity would help greatly (in my tastes). On tap at the brewpub. Monday, June 29, 2009
