Kona Koko Brown Ale
355ml bottle pours a dark amber brown color with a finger of off-white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is coconut and chocolate with some caramel. Taste is a caramel and chocolate malty sweetness with a light herbal bitterness and coconut throughout. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a well crafted brown ale that is balanced and tasty.

Orange and deep biscuit malts. Very nice and lots of grip. Not sur eit would be a thirst quencher in Hawaii but excellent.

Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
Pours a very clear, very golden color. Well carbonated. About one finger white head. Low retention, okay lacing.

Aroma is very hoppy, but not bitter or citrus hops. I guess herbal hops maybe. Has tropical fruit...papaya maybe? A little bready, a lot sweet.

Taste is mild. Has some sort of weird upfront bitterness, but after that its largely sweet. It’s very hoppy, spicy hoppy, but not bitter. I’m looking for pepper in there, but not finding any. I’m tasting some tropical fruit, maybe orange zest. There may be pear.

Mouthfeel is light bodied. Very refreshing. A little dry, a little oily.

Overall, I like it. A little different. I was surprised by the hops. I would probably recommend this, and I might buy iit again.

Kona Big Wave Golden Ale
(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 22 July 2016) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of peaches, orange and toffee. Malty, fruity taste with peaches, toffee, citrus, pineapple, soft malt and a balanced citric bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Fresh and tasty, highly drinkable. Quite nice.

Kona Koko Brown Ale
Light and (at first) interesting beer. Coconut leads the way- dried coconut nose with faint drinking chocolate whiff. Darker and more chocolate in the mouth. A bit like a bounty ice cream crossed with a german dunkel weizen (much less fizzy than most, but as thin as some, of the latter).

Fluffy, clinging off-white head over well-carbonated, yellow-golden beer. Fresh citrussy hops dominating the nose. Further hay, mowed grass. Bit skunky, rather bitter and piney hops. Grapefruit peel. Not very well-bodied, well-carbonated. Bit oily-slick. Actually, quite nice IMO. What an unusual find - in a small town Albert Heijn supermarket...

Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale
12 ounce bottle from Valli Produce on State Street, Rockford IL, sampled a few minutes our of the fridge in a pint glass. This was in the .99 bin and I was afraid I got an old lemon when there wasn’t a hint of "pop" as I flipped the cap off, but it pours with a sizeable head, loads of thick lacing which lasts and lasts, atop a dark amber, almost copper clear body. Surprisingly this is the first Hawaiian beer I’ve had, or at least first rated; could have sworn I’d had a couple of other Kona products over the past few years in my non-rating period. And I’ve never been to Hawaii and never really thought about it until fairly recently; my brother took his first trip with the woman who became his wife there about 6 years ago and while they fought a lot there and it looked like it was not going to end well, they’re still together, with two little girls now. So maybe Hawaii was a positive influence on them after all, they sure talk about it a lot. More digression...anyway this has a light, mostly grassy aroma, dry and pleasing, hints of citrus and wet bark, not really distinctive enough....very full on the tongue, with a cherry-like sweet-sour character, not really a flavor of that fruit but just the balance of taste characteristics reminds me of it...it does feel just a touch flat, so maybe the bottle was a bit old after all, and a tiny bit sticky as it moves to a moderately dry, lightly spicy, lightly hoppy finish. Overall perfectly fine, nothing to remember, unlike my memories of another’s memories of the islands...

Originally rated on 9/11/08. "A decent offering from the islands this pipeline. The best attribute of this beer is the aroma, pure roasted coffee bean is nice. However it doesnt translate into the flavor, the only decernable taste is of earth. Mouthfeel is good enough, smooth and easy to drink. A decent porter but i probably wont purchase it again since there are so many others out there yet to try."

Pours clear light amber. Moderate white frothy head. Stays as a thick lace sticking on glassware. Fruity small of nectar, melon, traces of tropical fruit. Light to medium body. Oily. The flavour starts malty with feel of nectar. Later a bit hollow in the middle. The ending strikes with remarkable piny & citric bitterness wich lingers on through aftertaste. Not that fresh anymore. Pleasant nevertheless.

Clear, pale golden color with white small head. Smells like the dishwater at a Chinese restaurant, Ok, ok, not that bad, has a cereal, wet cardboard scent with hints of ginger. A cross between a strong Ginger Ale and licking my great Aunts neck, has a really funky old lady perfume thing going on. I’m not digging this one at all.

Embossed, sloped shoulder bottle, good label. Slightly misty, opalescent light gold. Zesty, herbal lemongrass aroma. Clean, a little mineral and briny, pretty dry, nicely bittered, zippy lemon. Light body, good lawnmower beer. Would be a good food pairing with a wide variety of dishes. ABC Liquors, Bull Run.
