St. Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged
Bottle shared by Tom. Deep brown pour with rich white head. Aroma is very fruity, nutty, very light oak. Taste is fruity, lots of berries, ripe fruits, plums, lots of oak. Palate is full bodied, well rounded. Good stuff.

St. Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged
Bottle (750 ml) shared with JulienHuxley and the lady. Clear deep copper with a small off-white head leaving little lacing. Aroma is fruity and quite oaky with toffee/brown sugar, berries and a bit of alcohol. Taste is less sweet and less "deep" malt-wise than the regular Abt 12 with loads of fruitiness and oak, toffee, alcohol and mild spiciness. Medium to full body. Medium carbonation. Oaky mouthfeel. Fruity and warming finish. World-class Abt with a lovely fruitiness. The only thing that "hinder" the enjoyability is that it’s not as good as the base beer, which is almost a perfect quad. Still really tasty and complex.

Pours a dark color and a beige head that fades quickly. Excellent fruity aroma, really complex. Intense malty taste, but hides the alcohol really well. Very drinkable and perfect for a winter night. Ages very well. One of the finest beers out there!

Yellow dark orange something shady. initially invaded by tireless bubbles are keeping a remnant of foam. Loaded smell of coriander and orange juice without sugar levels and malt gives tropical aromas of sweet and acid mixture with a soft spicy touch. The flavor division plays a different style reference. More pronounced, consistent and acid, with a sweet orange base and malt is interrupted by notes of lemon, tropical fruits and soft notes of grapefruit and grass.

Burgundy pour, rupturing head falling to a small film. Bogglingly complex nose. Sweet dried cherries and fig, cola, caramel, red apple, baking spice, dark bread, floral, estery fruits, very delicate clove (thank god). Seemingly an enigma. Complex yet simple. Flavor is sweet ripe black cherries, whole grain bread, raisin and date, slight illusion of cocoa, estery spice strategically appears to contrast sweet notes, an utterance of earthiness. As of less than a week ago, I’ve been a non-believer in Belgians. Delirium Nocturnum opened my eyes. Now I tried this. My mind, soul, and palate are satisfied and illuminated to the world of Belgian ales. Sincere complexity, sweet, but not cloying, a true testament to the ale. At $10.99, I’ll be keeping some in my fridge at all times.

St. Bernardus Blanche (Witbier)

330ml bottle bought at Good Stuff in Yuen Long.

Looks: Cloudy, hazy pale straw golden colour with a thick ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; Half finger head with crumpety white foam which last for 1 minute; Fair sticky lacing with active carbonation.

Aroma: Fragrant malt, with very strong wheaty tartness, banana, light apple, strong orange peels, coriander, vanilla, cream, floral, sugar, spices, dough, strong Bel yeast, very light lemon and thin grass.

Taste: Close to light sweet light malt, with strong wheat, very strong tartness on the verge of acidic, strong orange peels, light coriander, strong carbo, floral, light molasses, earth, spices, light bread, strong yeast, lemon, moderate bitter hops and light strawy grass.

Body: Close to medium body. Slick and creamy palate.

Mouth Feel: Light maltyness in a thick background. Very smooth and creamy. Lots of wheat with screaming tartness. Good orange peels and floral but light on coriander and sweetness. Spicy and yeasty with mild lemon and notable bitterness to round. Good!

Hoppiness: Floral, spices, very light lemon and thin grass in nose. Floral, earth, spices, lemon and strawy grass in taste; Bitterness is moderate for an lasting, mid to light astringent wheaty finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Smooth and very easy to mouth. <P>Comments: This one feels stronger and bolder than Van Steenberge’s Celis White - better estery aroma, a lot creamier, stronger wheaty tartness, stronger orange peels and spices. A bit more sweetness will be perfect to its hoppiness. Quite nice for Summer!

Shared bottle at Lambicus, Barcelona with the RBESG guys: thanks yespa for treating us to this beauty. I thought the combined bottle bill was split between us. Anyway what a lovely beer. The base brew is one of my favourites and the 6 months inside the Calvados barrels adds a new, smoother, mellower dimension to an already outstanding beer. Just a great beer!

St. Bernardus Christmas Ale
Finally had a chance to taste this on tap in the magic tree’s christmas in july happening. Darker ale. Neat how it appears as fairly flat but even without co2 there is a tad of cutting effects on the palette. Was expecting another over the top holiday beer but what I got was a milder, more civilized vesion of what was expected. This is a well balanced brew between a typical holiday spiced brew and a good civilized belgian. Yes, finally a holiday brew that I can respect. Right there in the league of good holiday ales like Reclamation Christmas Ale. Look, I don’t care for any holiday ales, but this is acceptable.

A 0.75 l bottle that poured a hazy copper body with medium sized ivory head. Aroma of caramel, cooked dark fruits, spices, including cinnamon and cloves, sour cherry and of course yeast. Flavor was lightly sweet and toasted and lightly roasted malts, caramel-coffee, cocoa, dark fruits, winter spicy (cinnamon, herbal). A little bit alcoholic. Full body with long, sweetish finish, sugary, spicy and also a bit perfumey. A fine Christmas beer.

Texture onctueuse. Trčs bonne tripel.

On tap at Kent BF 2016. Very pale gold hazy lasting white head. Touch of soapy esters on the aroma. Better in the mouth. Somewhere between a lager and a Belgian wit beer. Drinkable enough. Some light hop on the finish. Some earthy lemon on the finish. Lemon curd. Got better.

Dark brown with ruby notes. Highish carbonation. Beautiful lacing. Aromas of caramel, phenols, rum, and lightly roasted nuts. Very smooth, surprisingly light bodied (Well not actually light bodied, but for its abv) It is a very sweet beer, but nicely balanced by the phenols and roasted flavors. Finishes with a touch of caramel on the tongue, before opening up into a spice clove-like finish. There just the slightest touch of acidity, which helps give this some dried fruit flavors. This is simply, an incredibly beer, very drinkable. One of the best beers in the world.

St. Bernardus Abt 12 Oak Aged
The beer was packaged in a traditional wire caged bomber, and the cork came off with a loud pop. It’s been a while since I have had the regular version of St. Bernardus Abt 12 (a shame I know), but based on my recollection of it, this version looked a little lighter, and formed a larger head. The head stayed around for a long while too. The aroma was sweet, showing off the brandy casks that this beer was aged in. There were notes of apple, pear, toffee, and honey on the nose. The taste was much lighter than the standard version of the beer, as the aging seemed to have suppressed the dark fruits that are so prominent in the initial brew, and replaced them with vinous and berry flavors. There was some vanilla and brown sugar in the flavor too, but not as prominent as I have found in bourbon barrel aged beers. The body of the beer was very silky and airy, and the finish very smooth. This was quite easy to drink considering the high ABV, complex aging process, and rich history.

330ml bottle: Pours a cloudy straw colour, with a persistent white head. Interesting notes of yeast, citrus and spice on the nose. It keeps one guessing on the taste with hints of lemon, orange, coriander and slight bubblegum. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Overall a very close second to Pierre Celis’ witbier.

Bouteille de 33 cl. Au nez, un peu fade. Bonne mousse blanche.

I am going to have to buy another from a different retailer to compare as this was sub par. Bottle at 12 degrees Celsius. Aroma was a little funky, and the flavour was also strange. And I love big malty quads. Head was off white and fluffy, but didn’t last. Will edit review after having another.
