St. Bernardus Prior 8 4.1
Opaque amber brown pour with a finger or two of creamy, lush head. Aroma of dried fruit, raisins. Taste is full - caramel malt, more dried fruit, dates. Has a slightly bitter hoppiness cooled by a candied sugar sweetness. Palate is full, creamy yet crisp, and absolutely delicious. Great beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Lively out the bottle, a deep dark mahogany with a tan lingering head. Smells of roasted treacle and malt. Has a thick oily texture which coats your mouth and lasts well. Taste of sweet malt and loveliness.

Mwhoa ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours golden amber with a highly aggressive head. The usual caramel, malt and hints of honey. Strong alcohol presence is nice on a cold day and lingers through to a warm glow at the finish.

750ml bottle aged 2 years. Beautiful mahogany pour with a big creamy tan cap that lasts FOREVER and leaves beautiful lace. Lots of Belgian yeast and spice on the nose; banana bread, steeped plums and prunes and grapes. This stuff is smoother than me talking to a pretty girl. Taste is sweet and dry, boozy but balanced. Next to Rochefort this is probably the best Abt I’ve tried, and worthy of all the hype it’s gotten.

Bottle, bought@Beershoppen, Kolding. Pours clear pale amber chestnut with a large, frothy, off-white head. Aroma has sweet malts, plums, raisins, Calvados, apples, quite sweet. Low carbonation, fine dry and quite creamy mouthfeel. Flavour has good malty sweetness, fairly vinious, oak dryness, sweet caramel, sugar, raisins . Warming finish.

33 cl. bb 19 02 17. Lightly hazy, golden body has a boisterous bubble activity that support a lasting meringue foam. Nose is earthy honey with the comb, white grape and a hint of tart apple. Tastes of the same mix, plus some toast and a touch of resin on the finish. Medium body has smooth medium-high carbonation and a nice sessionable balance.

75cl at inter festas 2014 and 33cl bottles bb08/2017 (BL1). - Quite the foamer in 75cl, at least vivid in 33cl. Smells like a freshly yeasty apple cake, peppered with flower and orchard blossoms, minimal banana, biscuit - overall fresh and appealing as long as you donot consider the possibility it could all be coriander broth... Nicely dry and unfruity in flavour, focussing on those dry orchard blossoms on crisp oven-dried apple cake. Peppery, grassy flourishes. Lovely tripel in modern, Belgian hop league with Witkap.

Wow. This is just great. Even my non-beer-drinking wife thinks so. Dark brown amber in color. Dried fruits on the aroma. A full flavor palate - there’s so much going on here - date, fig, raisin, candy sugar, malt. Yet so balanced. Smooth, sweet, crisp. Very little bite from the high ABV. Really, really good.

33cl bottle from Sip, Tallinn. Pours clear pale golden with a small, but lasting white head. Mild fruity and malty aroma with notes of Belgian yeast, hints of citrus and dough, some herbs. Moderate sweet with mild, but fairly nice Belgian flavours and light acidity and bitterness. Fairly tasty and rather sessionable. Carbonation slightly on the lively side and body more on the light side, but a quite nice brew all-together.

You can read all the other comments regarding the smells, looks, etc, im only going to say, this beer is excellent, you simply can't go wrong with this one. Some of the best examples of what a Belgium beer is. Highly recommended.

330-mL bottle bought in Belgium, poured into a wine glass. Deep brown color with orange hues. Beige bubbly head which fades off rather quickly leaving nothing behind. Aromas of plums, raisins, biscuits, Belgian yeast, a hint of alcohol, and a nice herbal hoppiness in the back. Brilliant nose! On the palate, fresh hops upfront, followed by caramel, dark fruits and yeast. Bittersweet finish with herbal hops. Smooth, with no traces of alcohol. An amazing beer, but I still prefer the hoppier profile of the Westvleteren 12.

Brown color. Lots of carbonation. Metalic, yeasty (like the bottom of barreling bucket after primary fermentation), some caramel deep in there, some nuttiness, has a funky lactobacillus smell, but no sourness in flavor. Actually not that pleasant smelling to be truthful, but opens up as it sits in the glass a bit. Rich, caramel flavor, clear clove notes. Vanilla. A roasted and phenolic bitter finish. Leaves mouth numb. A good dubbel, but #1 of the style? Not in my opinion.

Grottenbier Bruin 3.2
Originally rated on 8/26/08. Grotten poured a beautiful rootbeer brown body with tons of carbonation that lead to a massive tan head that left thick lacing. Aromas of banana, cinammon, and clove. Mouthfeel was adequate, a little thin though. Flavor was strange, no one flavor stood out and it was kind of bland. The best thing about this was its appearance, however i would be willing to give it another try in the future."

Nice golden yellow, opaque, body headed by a very fine white foam, not abundant yet persistent. Aroma of coriander, fresh herb, sandwich bread. Taste of light agrums, coriander; a lot of soothness structured by a very delicate bitterness; wheat, vegetal. All that develops as temperature is rising. A hint of sourness.

Ogólnie mistrzowskie piwo, mega owocowe z wyraźną nutą przypraw, orzeźwiające i pijalne, chyba najlepszy witbier jaki dotychczas piłem.

Bottle shared by Marduk, thanks! BB 06.05.2017. Amber with white off-head. Fruity and caramelly, plus nice hop character. Soft on the palate, carbonation crisp. Alcohol present, but it doesn’t come across as boozy. Nothing bad to say, but not exactly memorable either.

Nez bien houblonné, fruité et levuré.On va laisser réchauffer, servie trop froide : 8 degrés. Nickel.

Recent and less recent samples, mainly 33cl bottles, here bb08/2019 (BL1). Aromatic 2-day old, leavened currant brown bread/rozijnenbrood smeared with sirop de Liège boldly hop-bittered for balance with fennel, mustard seed - pours like half a Westflemish dish in a glass, attenuated to older fruit caramel dryness.

It pours murky ochre with golden highlights; the head is off white and mousse-like. The aroma has notes of: banana, bubblegum, and sourdough. The taste is medium sour that finishes medium dry; there are notes of: banana, cracked wheat, and sourdough starter. The palate is medium bodied with medium carbonation, and a creamy mouthfeel; it has a medium finish. Overall, it’s refreshing, yet complex.

Dejligt balanceret. En anelse beskhed i slutningen. Fyldig krop og solidt karboneret. Olieret konsistens og bittersød afslutning. Overall: Velsmagende, lidt humlet, Dubbel i yderst god balance. Værdig lillebror til Abt 12'eren. 33 cl, flaske, 8.0 % ABV, BB: 06/10/19, købt i Den Belgiske Ølbutik i Vanløse. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
