Biddenden Vineyards Reviews

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 3.5
Draught at Claret Freehouse. It pours clear very pale yellow with no head. The nose is earthy, musty, barnyard, appletiser and apple skin. The taste is dry, earth, apple skin, tangy apple, alcohol hit, tart pear, touch of acidity, white grape and wood. Medium body, pretty much flat and slick mouth - feel. Drinks easier than it should, consider you get a good boost from it. Solid.

Biddenden Sparkling Cider 4.1
Do not approach this as a cider! This is much more like drinking a Champagne only far better value at £10. Wonderfully floral aroma smells like apple orchard in spring with a crisp but semi-sweet flavour.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 5
Utterly delicious. Strong but you wake up feeling fresh in the morning, so it is totally pure. Just apples and probably sweeteners (because you do not put on weight with Biddenden cider). The most perfect drink I have ever tasted (apart from Karabakh wine, which is difficult to get)

Biddenden Bushels Cider (Draught) 3.2

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Vintage (Bottle) 3.7
Bottle. Best before May 2013. Aroma is vinegary, hinting at very dry fermentation, not so inviting for me. Clear light yellow colour. Taste is again slightly vinegary, other than that, has some light sweetness up front, nice clean apple character with a satisfying dry finish. Easily drinkable. Gets better while dirnking.

The taste is crisp, lightly tart, white grape, apple, earthy, hay, barnyard, pear, sherbet and light alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and effervescent carbonation. Pretty impressive stuff really. Complex, yet balanced. Almost like a champagne in many ways. Crisp tartness comes through as well. Delicious.

Biddenden Special Reserve Cider (Bottle) 3.8
Bottle picked up at Biddenden, consumed to bring in the New Year. It pours clear deep amber with pretty much no head. The nose is rich, plenty of sweet apple, oily, touch of wood and whisky. The taste is smooth, juicy, unctuous apple, candied pear, oily, wood and some whisky in the background. Not actually as much whisky character as I was expecting. Good depth and drinks incredibly smoothly. Has a bit of ice-cider about it. A great sipper.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Medium 3.1
Tap (Cherry Tree, Canterbury) - guessing it was medium
Pale and clearish for a scrumpy. Aroma is, for want of a better word, tasty - slightly sweet. In the palate there’s a good sharpness and acidity, but it’s not vinegary. Fills out nicely in the finish - lots of fruit. Light and crisp in the mouth, a tasty scrumpy. A tad boozy in places, but still good.

Biddenden Bushels Cider (Draught) 3.5
Handpulled at Ye Old Mitre. Very pale yellow, still looking and no head. Tart apple, slightly sour white wine, less sour in the taste - a bit of alcohol. Slick, light and still, moderately acidic, finishes dry - really nice! A surprise.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 3.1
Bottle (from National Trust Shop Sissinghurst Castle, Kent): Very pale golden, clear, no foam, fruity - not too dry - nose: apples, what else, with a sourish mouldy touch; moderate to solid sweet-sourish flavour, well hidden alcohol, medium bodied, soft, not really dry; ( but) becoming a bit drier towards the fruity citrussy and vinous finish. Nice, but a tad too sweet…

Biddenden Special Reserve Cider (Bottle) 3.6
Glass from a bottle at The cherry Tree Canterbury shared with Ang. Bright gold with no head. Some apple on the aroma. Quite sticky. Quite hot in moith. Some subtle whisky jotes. More like a grain whisky cask. Quite sweet and sticky. Finish has sweetish apples. But not unpleasant. Highland whisky orange notes. Quite impressive for the kick 3.5 bottle at The New Inn Canterbury. Clear amber colour no head. Eating apple aroma some caramelised apple. Remarkably smooth. Just a hint of heat on the finish. Wow. Sweetish apple. Like a caramelised apple tart. Pretty sweet. Rather good. Way too sweet. Worth it though.

Biddenden Bushels Cider (Draught) 1.5
Very pale. Winey, soft and sweetish. Tastes like Canadian industrial cider. Quite lame - why bother?

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 1.8
Box draft @ Beau Nash cider festival, Bath. Clear, dull gold. Watered down brass color and flat. Bland aroma. Sweet--leaves too many sugars on the tongue without giving anything else. Apple cooler-like. This one tastes really low class.
Sunday, September 05, 2010

Biddenden Bushels Cider (Draught) 2.3
Box draft @ Beau Nash cider festival, Bath. Pale yellow-greenish hue. White wine look. Bland white wine aroma is barely there. Has some acidity in the finish. Is drinkable but has hardly any apple character. Tastes like a simple cheap white wine. As a wine it would be ok but as a cider it falls flat. Basically a "cider cooler" character.

Biddenden Bushels Cider (Draught) 3

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Medium 2.6
Draught - The Cherry Tree, Canterbury. Pours a weak piss yellow, has some fizz and no head. Dry, sour apple aromas. Sweet and sour apple notes on the tongue but quite short overall. Crisp and is refreshing on the right day, despite the strength. Light body, fizzy and watery in the mouth too with some tartness and sugar lingering on the palate.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Medium 2.2
On draught at the Brewers Arms, Lewes, during the Harveys brewery tour day, 7 June 2009. Sold simply as Biddenden Kentish Cider. To be honest, I’m not entirely sure whether the products we have listed here are all the same stuff. This was extraordinarily pale. Almost no colour at all. Lots of alcohol and some fruit but not a lot else. Seemed more directed towards the “white” cider loopy juice market. Not very impressed.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 3
A Mes rate. Cask at the Montefiore Arms, Ramsgate.
A clean pale yellow gold with very little carbonation. Lots of white wine and a fair bit of oak. Not earth shatteringly dry by any means but it’s pleasant enough and certainly better than their sweet and medium offerings. Tasty cinnamon and peaty hints in the finish. Not bad.

Biddenden Monks Delight (Bottle) 2.9
750ml bottle, courtesy of BeerTart, drunk at home on 30th Dec 09. Spicy apple aroma, bit of alcohol. Quite mild aroma for a cider. Clear still amber looks. Sweet, coats the mouth. spiced apple. Better when drunk warm with spices (as most of this bottle was).

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Dry 3.6
Cask Stillage from the Cellar at the Fighting Cock, Bradford 07/12/2008 Strong fruit aroma. Clear coloured strong in alcohol and fruity with a crisp and dry lasting finish.

Biddenden Strong Kentish Cider - Medium 2.1
A Mes rate: Draught at the Brewers Arms, Lewes.
Pretty bad in all honesty. Pale yellow, rather harsh and unrefined all round, pretty fierce alcohol and seems to have no idea if it is sweet, medium or dry. A mess. Would get me legless pretty quickly though...
