Eel River Certified Organic Porter 4
12oz bottle (Courtesy of Headbanger) poured into an English Pint at 41°. Color is a dark brown with a bit of maroon. Carbonation is good with a small tight tan head. Aroma is toffee and roasted malt. Body is medium with a crisp light mouth feel. Flavor is deep roasted malt that gives a note of toffee sweetness, then coffee and a touch of dark fruit. After taste is more roasted malt and a dry feel. Overall it’s a great Porter, complex with a nice balance of sweet and roasted flavors.

Eel River Certified Organic India Pale Ale 2.9
12oz bottle (Courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Shaker at 42°. Color is a deep copper with a slight haze and good carbonation giving it a small white head. Aroma is a malty scent with caramel and fruit. It has a lighter medium body with a crisp mouth feel. Flavor is light, some grain and sweetness with just a hint of fruit, then a little hop spice and mild bitterness. After taste is dry as the bitterness comes out a little more. Overall it’s a nice pale just nothing special.

Yased
Eel River Certified Organic India Pale Ale 3.3

Eel River Earth Thirst Double IPA 3.3
Bottle (2016 batch). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), lightly to moderately hoppy (herbs, flowers), with a hint of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. I wanted to like this more, as it’s nicely balanced and quaffable for a DIPA, but the aroma just doesn’t do much. I like that the hops are more herbal-spicy-flowery than typical American west coast beers, but it’s just too restrained to be exciting and there seems to be a touch of diacetyl lurking in there as well. Drinkable but it just doesn’t rise to the next level.

Eel River Raven’s Eye Imperial Stout 4.3
Highly underrated brew. The aroma is dense dark chocolate with dried plums and it is poured dark as hell with a fine half finger head. Taste comes on strong with licorice and roasted malts that goes into a chocolate gradient, still with licorice tingling. Well enough hops to freshen it up and I am sure it would be even better after 3 years in the cellar. Having my eyes out for another bottle.

It has a light body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is mild fruit on a faint sweetness. After taste is clean and dry with the fruit leaving a cranberry tartness. Overall its a tasty little brew just nothing special.

Eel River Açai Berry Wheat 3.3
Super berry in the nose. The chocolate/berry blend of Acai with a shock of acidity. Sharp. A hint of fruity wheat, and maybe crackers. Almost blackberry level tartness, a tiny bit of bite to it. Needs more wheat to it, more body, more malt character. Refreshing, sure, but a little too insubstantial.

Eel River Triple Exultation 3.7
More American Barleywine than old ale to me, due to the citrus and bitterness from the hops. Lots of malt too...bread earth, molasses. A little heat. Nice beer overall, and one of the better ones I’ve had from them.

Bottle, bought @ Havnens Vin og Tobak, Vejle. Pours light murky yellow with a small, staying, creamy, white head. Aroma has grass, light grapefruit, soft cheese. Medium to low carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour has fairly crisp malts, light doughy, some grass, firm grapefruity bitterness. Rather old-school IPA, but quite drinkable nonetheless.

Eel River 20th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel Aged Triple Exultation 4.7
World class.

Eel River Certified Organic India Pale Ale 3.1
From 385 ml bottle. Honey-Amber body topped off by a creamy lasting white head. Light aromas of sweet malt, orange and pepper. Taste is tropical fruits up front before a firm piney bitterness. Quite a clean finish with a light fruity aftertaste. All the elements seem fine but they don’t really mesh together.

Bottle, 22oz. 2015 vintage. A murky brown beer, almost flat and headless. Some off-white bubbles though. Heavy malt aroma with prunes, oxidation, some berries and quite evident traces of hops. Toffee, some roasted malts and chocolate, a nice hoppy bitterness, raisins, some prunes and brown sugar. Full body and very smooth on the palate, with little carbonation. Some warmth. Hints of licorice in the finish, as well as all the other goodness found in the initial flavor. An intense beer, but sure nice. 160102
