Draught at the brauhaus
Hazy blond color with medium head. There is maybe a hint of butter in the aroma, but overall, this is a good Weizen, dry, lean, with an interesting banana bubblegum character. Fresh.

Gleumes Obergärig (Lager)
Draught at the brauhaus
Amber color, clean, with medium sized compact head. The caramel is just hinted, and for the rest it has too much character of wet hay and weed, some wet cereals.
Not very appealing.

Gleumes Hell
Draught at the brauhaus
Blond color, clean; medium compact head. The aroma is mild, more hay than grass. Soft mouthfeel; simple malt flavor, with rather low bitterness, hence almost sweet.
It has a fresh feeling, but overall it’s too simple to stand up in front of the other mass produced Lagers.

Sieht aus wie ein Alt, ist aber fruchtiger und nicht so hopfig-bitter im Abgang, was ich als Alt-Fan aber durchaus vermisse. Nichtsdestotrotz für mich das Beste Gleumes!

Draught at the brewpub. Light malty, very fruity aroma (apple and pear). Dry, fruity taste with a moderately bitter, herbal finish. Up to date this is certainly the best and most fruity kolsch I’ve ever had. Delicious!

Gleumes Weizen
Draught at the brewpub. Rather low on fruity aromas (some pear) but crisp and citric instead, with notes of vanilla. Unexpectedly tart taste that went really well with the aroma. An original approach to a hefeweizen and a great summer beer!

Re-rate, bottled: now it´s no longer fruity, a bit sticky malty (not too sweet!), grainy, light sulphury and very morish. Better! Original rating: Draught at the brewpub. Green hoppy aroma with toasted and nutty malt notes and a strange but enjoyable presence of mango notes. Nice velvety carbo and a worthwhile finish - light bitter, ight fruity, very nutty. Altogether a tad too dry but enjoyable nonetheless.

Draft at the brewpub in Krefeld, mainly driven by my interest in the semantics of "top-fermented lager beer." Lovely bright brown-amber beer, maltier in the nose than the flavor, which has some light toasted sweetness. Releases a bit of fruit when swirled, which I find reassuringly unpolished. Nicely rough, dry bitterness, very light sweetness, light bitter aftertaste. High on character and drinkability so scores well with me.

Had nine Stangen of this at the local back in mid-July, courtesy of Frau K. and the gang, and really enjoyed it (obviously). Deep , clear copper, light-bodied with swishy malt. Sweet without the balancing bitterness and hops, but ended up being more drinkable than Altbiere I like more. Low caramel and low-medium fruitiness, light roast and even faint nuttiness.

Danke an FaustusI Test vom 2.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 7,11,13,11,10,11 - 10,85

0.5 l fliptop bought at the Gleumes brewpub in Krefeld on the 27th of March. Pours a dark amber with the usual Alt-styled, fine pored, laceing head on top, the carbonation’s lively. After the beer’s gettin’ warmer, the smell becomes more sensible, so it’s mainly lemony with some hints of caramell. It begins moderate crisp. the taste is sweet(sour), flavour’s citrus-fruity. In the aroma, the citrus/grassy hops rules, then comes some caramell and roasted malt. The finish is citric, spicy and dry which remains in a light roasty/caramell aftertaste. The body is medium, texture’s slick. For me not a "classic" Alt, rather a refreshing kind, and overall nice to taste.

Aroma of cereal malt, grassy hops and upper fermented yeast, the finish is spicy and dry, bodie’s medium. Not a cavalcade of aromas, but it passes.

Csapolva a sörfőzde kocsmájában. Ködös narancs a színe, habja a búzasörökre jellemzően szép és tömött, és viszonylag hosszan tartja magát a sör tetején. Szénsavassága viszont nem annyira élénk, inkább átlagosnak mondható. Illata banános, citrusos, gabonás. Íze édeskés/fanyar, gyümölcsös, teste kissé vizes Aromájában is a búzákra jellemző hatásokat hozza: Búza/gabona maláta, citrusos komló és a banános jelleget kölcsönző élesztő. Befejezése fűszeres, csípős és száraz. Összességében semmi extra és különösen kiugró, de ettől függetlenül egy jófajta és frissítő búzasört volt szerencsém megkóstolnom Krefeldben, márc. 27.-én.

Herbst Pitt
On tap at Herbst Pitt, Krefeld. It’s a clear, copper-colored beer topped by a diminishing, two-finger, dense off-white head. Slightly herbal on the nose, with caramel, nuts and some roasted malts. Slightly roasted flavor with caramel, some faint vegetal notes and a fine balancing bitterness. Medium body, nicely carbonated and dry. Dry, bitter finish with some nuts and caramel. Nothing extraordinary here, but a decent beer it is. 091011

On tap at the brewpub. It had a fizzy, orange-golden body and a creamy, three-finger, off-white head. Banana, a tad too much bubblegum, some citrus and a fine touch of cloves in the aroma. The flavor also had a bit too much bubblegum, but the banana, citrus and cloves were nice. The bitterness too. Effervescent, full-bodied and quite dry in the mouth. Bitter finish with banana and bubblegum. A nice weissbier, but especially the aroma had too much bubblegum. 091010

On tap at the brewpub, at the release day. It’s a clear, golden beer with a diminishing, finger-thick white head leaving some lacings. Some herbal and vegetal notes in the aroma, pale malts in the background. There’s some alcohol-warmth in the mouth, full-bodied and a bit fizzy, soft with flavors of pale malts and some herbal and vegetal notes. Bitterness too. Pale malts and bitterness in the finish, with some of the same herbal, vegtal notes found initially and in the aroma. A decent beer, but a bit on the warm side. 091010

Aug 2005 - My first foray into "altbiers" and I’m not really sure what they "should" be, but this was an enjoyable beer. Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing growler. Pour was amber, clear with little head and lacing. Nice balance of sweet malt and hops. Taste really came out as it warmed. Smooth for a lager.

Tap at the pub in Krefeld. The best of the range, a copper coloured lagerbier (not sure where the altbier bit comes in). This is a good lagerbier, fresh, clean and with a good malty finish. I liked this, but it is not an altbier, simply a darker than average lagerbier. The fact that it is called Lager suggests that it is bottom fermented which means it cannot be an alt given that alts are top fermented.

Bottled. Aroma has hints of raisin, caramel and hops but overall not too strong. Amber color, beige fine head, good lace. Light maltsweet start that diminishes quickly, bitter and increasing towards the finish. Well hopped, nice caramel malts, dry finish. Why call it a Lager while it’s topfermented, looks like an alt, tastes like an alt and your located in Alt territory??? Re-rate: hey! Theyve listened to me. The Lager is removed from the label now. :-)

Swing top bottle and appropriate glassware provided by my tasting bud eaglefan538, thanks Brian! Large, rocky, offwhite head delivers excellent retention with blotchy, chunky lace that hangs. Clear copper/amber hued beer. a scenic brew indeed. Dry malty nose, light grassy hop notes, touch bready. Body is light, crisp and a bit grainy. Dry malt flavors, some caramel?, a hint of berries, honey and grain. Finish is almost dry with a clean maltiness. Thanks Bud!!

(draught at the beautiful art nouveau brewpub) Cloudy and hazy orange coloured hue with a small but firm and persistent foamy white head. Sweet wheat-accented aroma, dense north-rhine-like banana notes, accompanied by shades of apricot and pear; very restrained clove phenols, which I thoroughly appreciate most of the time (I hereby admit not being a Hefe-Weizen lover, except for the summer time). Light-sweet flavour, light bodied with a smooth carbonation for a Weizen. Wheat-malty, yeasty and moderately fruity (banana, apricot) taste; rather slim and slightly sour and light bitter finish. Not very impressive Weizen but all in all pretty drinkable.

An altbier that was very drinkable, but not as balanced as the others (ie. low hops and pretty sweet). This one poured a light copper-amber color with a very nice head that laced great. Good, but not great example of the style.
