Moa Station IPA
Pours a clear golden orange from the can with bubbly white foam. Aroma of oxidized malt and pithy citrus hops, a touch of generic sweet fruit. Taste is moderately sweet from the malt, lightly bitter from the hops, oxidation again taking over. Meh.

Moa Hazy Pale Ale
Pours a hazy golden yellow from the can with bubbly white foam that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big oxidized hop notes, burnt caramel malt oxidation, candied orange underneath. Taste is moderately sweet from the malt, lightly bitter from the hops, oxidation persists. Not utter shite, but definitely not good compared to everything else in NZ.

Moa Sour Grapes
375ml bottle. Light orange shade, few bubbles at most. Aroma is very nice: wild, grassy, rose wine. Taste is on point for a fruit lambic and sour character is well poised. Good stuff.

Moa Rakau Vice
$ 9.99 for 440 ml can from New World , Ravenswood : Yellowish beer , only slightly hazy , small head ... mildly malty aroma ... some fruity flavour , not much , good body , crisp & clean , rather uninspiring beer for the price , a quaffer , not a craft brew ... come on Moa , you're better brewers than this .

Moa Cherry Sour
10/6/2023. Bottle shared at SBGP3. From New Zealand Beer Collective. 2016 vintage. Pours clear pale golden amber with a small frothy white head. Aroma is funky, yeasty, peachy, citrus, vague cherry. Moderate sweetness, light bitterness, medium sour which increased. Medium body, slightly watery, average to soft carbonation. Dry, sour and salty finish. Enjoyable.

4. 375ml bottle from Left Field Beer. 2016 vintage. Pours hazy peach with no head. Aroma is barnyard, funk, cherry. Taste is heavy sweet, barnyard, cherry, lemon. A stringent finish. Full bodied. Pretty cool but not really my kind of thing.

Moa Sour Grapes
2016 vintage. 375mL bottle at Mikkeller Brewpub London, pours a clear pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with white wine grape skins, gentle funk, and oak. Flavour is not a lambic at all, but there’s a real nice white wine character, followed by white wine vinegar, and a touch of oak. Somewhat wild character, but there’s a bit too much acetic character. Smells better than it tastes. Good.

Moa Cherry Sour
375ml bottle as part of a delivery from New Zealand Beer Collective. Yellowish pink and cloudy with a ring of white head. Tart mothball notes with loads of fresh cherries. More tartness in the taste, really fresh with berry, champagne vinegar. Medium to long finish with spritzy carbonation. Really simple but all the more effective for it.

Moa Sour Grapes
375ml bottle as part of a delivery from New Zealand Beer Collective and drunk at home. Pours white gold, clear, some visible carbonation and a small ring of white head. Big Sauv Blanc aromas: gooseberry and white grape with some musty funk. Exceedingly tart taste, more white grape here, leading to a big sour finish. Spritzy carbonation. Exceptional.

Moa Hazy Pale Ale
330ml can. Pours a mild gold / yellow with soft haze and white head. Very light nose with hint soft citrus and nothing else. Light body with low carbonation. Little to no flavour, a hint of biscuity malt and tropical fruits but it really just reminds me of flats sprite. Utter shite.

Moa Milk Chocolate Stout
Haven't had too many Moa beers, and only in New Zealand. Those I've tried have been on the darker end like this one. Less aggressive than I expected. Has chocolate character for sure, but its watery and understated. Tried with Mackenzie in Wellington in 2022.

Moa Salted Caramel Chocolate Stout
500ml bottle. Pours an opaque deep brown with a decent tan head that fades to not much. Aroma is typical dark malt stout with I think a hint of salt. Beer is quite light, not nearly as sweet as "salted caramel" sounds, decent chocolate flavours with a salty finish. I am no fan of salted caramel anything, so this is just a slightly dodgy version of Moa's 500ml stouts. Unless you love salted caramel, get one of the other Moa stouts.

Moa Imperial Oak Aged Stout
500ml bottle. It's been in my beer fridge for a while, so it probably has five years of age on it. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, oak and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet and liqourice bitter, with a smoky, roasty, light chocolate, light dry coffee, liqourice, dry oaky, boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Moa Blanc Evolution
Bottle from Chris’s Liquor in Austin, TX. Aroma is sourdough bread, herbal honey, funky dough. Taste is tangy, yeasty, mild malt, grain funk. More like a malty farmhouse than anything and in that sense I enjoyed it.

Moa Southern Alps
500ml bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a hard to control white head. Aroma is a bit of spicy coriander & hops, maybe a bit of esters. Flavour is bitter in the main with some Wit beer underneath. It tastes much as you might expect if you mixed a big, bitter IPA with a Wit beer. But why? Wit beers are all about subtle flavours whereas IPAs are knock you out hops. This is just a mess. Nah.

Moa Lime Pilsner
330ml bottle. Pours a pale gold lager with minimal white head. Aroma is limes with a dash of hops. This seems to have been reviewed quite hard but it tastes exactly like the label says, a light Pils with a dash of lime & some zest. It's not over sweet like so many of the lime beers & nothing like those Swedish ciders. If the sound of a light Pils with a dash of lime sounds appealing then this should do the job. And at 4.5% ABV it won't knock you out if you quaff a couple. Good,

Moa Wild Coast
330ml can. Pours dark brown with a mahogany tint & minimal head. On the can this just called a black beer so whether it is meant to be a black lager or not I'm not sure. Not much aroma, maybe a tiny bit of malt. Light bodied this is more mild than wild, there is a bit of dark malt backbone and not much else. It's not too bitter or sweet but just rather ordinary. Okay.

Moa St Josephs Tripel
500ml bottle. Pours a cloudy gold, if you gets the yeast that does settle out, with next to no white head. Aroma id muted & mostly alcohol. This has a medium body with a sweet, fairly thick malt base. Not nearly as much spice or banana ester flavours as I was expecting. I mainly get a fairly sweet malty & alcoholic beer with hints of the Belgian flavours expected. Big beer but a bit disappointing.

Moa Imperial Oak Aged Stout
500ml bottle. Pours a deep black with strong fluffy off white head. Soft malts on the nose with hints of tropical fruits and oak. Full body with strong roasted malts at the front, licorice, coffee bitterness, and alcohol heat. A big and full flavoured beer but poorly balanced.

Moa Breakfast
Corked and caged bottle pour (BB 24 7 14!!!, wow, I knew they sold some old bottles but that's ridiculous!) from Fort Point Market. It's a hazy golden yellow with a fine mist of floaties, nice sparkle, thin cap of white head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong cherry (a bit like Life Savers or cough syrup) and wheat with a smidge of funky tart. Taste is strong cherry cough syrup with funky tart aspect. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and crisp finish as taste. Overall, the aroma was OK but taste over the top cough syrup. Though quite old, did not seem to vary much from three most recent reviews. Not my bag.

Moa Bonus Mandarin IPA
500ml bottle. Pours hazy gold with quite a bit of zest? in the glass. Big off white head. Aroma is mostly citrus with a bit of beer thrown in. This has a medium body with the ABV & fruit additions. First swig is fruity citrus, orange or mandarin with fruit & malty sweetness. Then the bitterness hits. Between the mandarina hops & the zest this is bitter and wow, does it linger! Your partner may pick it up with a kiss 30 minutes or more after the last swig. So if a fruity, citrus based IPA with a huge dollop of bitter appeals, here you go. Too bitter for us.

Moa Mixed Grain Toasted Ale
440ml can. Pours a clear gold with a small lived head. Little aroma & no toast. It is medium weighted with the bulk of the flavour coming from toasted malt & perhaps those loaves of Vogel bread. Very drinkable & as per the can, a lightly hopped ale all about the malt & grains. Fine.

Moa Imperial Oak Aged Stout
500ml bottle. Pours black with a fine bubble tan head that lasts. Not huge aroma but oak & alcohol seem predominant. It's medium bodied and there is a solid sweet malt base but then a ton of hop bitterness plus the wood from the oak. At this ABV and bitterness it's probably something to sip on after dinner with cheese and maybe share? It's 4 standard drinks per bottle! And you have to add, this is often $6 whereas many craft stouts are $10-12 for a 440ml can.

Moa Milk Chocolate Stout
500ml bottle. Pours black with a low tan head & fine carbonation. Aroma is chocolate & vanilla. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, it is only 5.4% ABV despite being called a "pastry" stout. The flavour is all chocolate and malt which is fine for a milk chocolate stout. I reckon they have got the balance between the lactose & bitterness so am puzzled by the reviews talking about a dry/bitter finish. Very good.

Moa Salted Caramel Chocolate Stout
500 mL bottle. Pours a deep dark brown, light head that lingers. Nose is chocolate. I've had the base chocolate stout before, which was ok if not spectacular. This is a variation on that, but to be honest I'm not really getting the salted caramel flavour. Going to let it warm up a bit to see if that helps.

Aroma: Medium-light strawberry. Medium grassy. Light yogurt. Appearance: Slightly hazy, gold body. Large, white head. Small to medium bubbles. Flavour: Medium-high bitterness. Medium creamy, orange. Medium-light yogurt, bready. Dry, grassy bitter finish with hints of orange. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Not sure if the yogurt is the beer starting to go off, or a lactic addition. Hops is there, but not as upfront as I would expect. I like the beer, but the idea of a fresh hop beer set the bar higher than what the beer delivered. 440 ml can, poured. Thanks Tanja!
