Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Hazy yellow colour, no head. Aroma is pear, mild cheesy notes with some wooden notes. Flavour is pear, wood, yeast, vanilla and turns into a very big wooden and vanillaish thing as for the finish.

Bottle 750 ml at Mr. Goodbar
Aroma fruity, mint, chamomile. Fruity yet very different. 6+
Appearance clear, maybe slightest haze. Short lived light white top.
Flavor and Palate : strong acidic tartness, thin bodied. Grainy mid. Very dry finish. Not that good.

Bottle courtesy of Peter Fowler, landlord of The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon, consumed at home w/c 07.11.11 Looks like Robinsons Barley Water. Little eggy on nose, very lemony not unlike jiffy lemon. Dry with some peary sweetness showing, but in an instant the lemony flavours come back through. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2011. Hazy gold with green tinge. Pretty plain perry. Yes some heat from alcohol. Not too sweet but definite sweetness. Not great to be honest

Lambourn Valley King Johns Perry
From the barrel at Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. Roy Bailey, the owner of Lambourn Valley Cider had announced just before the festival that he had decided to discontinue the business, so I was keen to take this last opportunity to try this Perry. Pale colour. Rather dubious aroma - seemed a bit "dirty" with rather strong acetone notes. Much better flavour. Clean and fruity with enough firm tannin and a slightly sharp bite on the finish. Bone dry. The good news is that Roy has now decided to soldier on, although this years Perry will be a blend rather than from the fruit of a single tree, as the King John’s is.

That one had this blend name on it, more than Perry, but supposedly must be the same. It has a good dark colour.

NICe in flavour, it says it was blend, so probably is not the same one. IT was sweet but not too dry. Very good taste.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Reading BF. A hazy greeny yellow coloured cider. The aroma is sweetish with decent apple. The taste has good apple fruits and is mouth-filling. Medium dry apples. Good stuff.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Reading BF. I wish I had total recall because my notes on this one do not match my highish marks at all, but I’m sure I knew what I meant at the time! A very pale green coloured perry with a slightly artificially sweet and flowery aroma. The taste reminds me of pickled egg water; a little disturbing, but intriguingly nice. Make of that what you will???

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A hazy orange cider with no head. The aroma is primarily of apples, but also contains strong notes of wood. The flavor is of apples combined with wood, and so sour, that the mouthwater is drawn, like a good lambic. It is very dry.

I can understand why others didn’t like this, but, although not the greatest cider, I didn’t think it was too bad. The aroma didn’t have too much barnyard, but there was some fruit in there. The mouthfeel, however, was very austere and dry, with not much in the way of flavours coming through. Rather astringent. Cask (handpump) at the Wenlock Arms, London.

Rotten apples and grapes in aroma along with a slight vinegar character. Lemon in colour with no head. Sweet apple start with a sour cheap white wine taste to finish. Thin-medium bodied. Crap.

Draught, White Horse, Hedgerley (South Bucks). Gravity dispense, poured by me. Lately I have been trying proper cider, but I really did not like this. I don’t think it’s because it’s dry, as I have found medium cider’s to be too sweet. I guess it’s just this one. Rerate @ The Wenlock: GOD THIS IS SHIT.
