Willimantic Lou’s Legacy Pale Ale
Draft at CT Hops for Hope. Not sure what was so German about this, but it was a darned wonderful Pale Ale. Pour was golden yellow with a generous head, nice lacing. Aroma of strong citrus and some caramel. Citrus was the highlight of this flavor, very bright fruity notes over and under it all, refreshing, a great Summer quafer, enough flavor to be an IPA, yet drinkable and slightly more balanced with a malt depth.

The taste is bitter, harsh grapefruit upfront, pithy lemon, hard bitterness, grass and some astringency with a peppery finish. Medium body and fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. A bit harsh in some aspects. OK.

Poured into a pint glass at the brewery: Pours amber with a one finger white head. Aroma of heavy rye spice, caramel, and a little resin. The rye really stands out in this one, lots of spiced flavors but not overdone. Resin and hop bite also contribute nicely. Well balanced with a malt sweetness, this is a very enjoyable IPA.
