750 ml bottle shared by phaleslu. Thanks! The beer is a hazy orange with a white head of foam. Huge head and strong retention. The aroma has notes of musty rye and funky, herbal notes. Big body and sticky mouthfeel. Definitely on the more tart side of Tripels.

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere
Floral nose with touches of musty grass. Pours slightly cloudy, dark golden with fine white, quick foam. Tart first flavors with crisp fizz and a slightly phenol finish. Medium body with slight soapiness and a sour and dry finish. Spices merge well with the mustiness as it warms up and the phenol fades. The balance seems to go to brett in the nose and phenol in the taste. The malts and hops are well muted.

Jolly Pumpkin Bam Noire
Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #27. 12 ounce bottle, consumed (I believe) in some hotel room in Michigan towards the end of July, 2008. Typical JP enormous fluffy head topping a dark mocha, nearly impenetrable body...big roasty, dark sour cherry, toasty malts, light funkiness in the aroma...hints of chocolate in the fairly yeasty/bready, light, dry body...stony fruits, again just a light barnyard funkiness. I remember for years trying to get this again when it wasn’t distributed in VT; now coming across this rating and having had a few other JP in the last couple of years that I wasn’t wowed by, I’m wondering if this will leave me cold on a re-taste, I seem to be one of the high raters on it - and I don’t usually love these so-called black saisons. Hmmm. Have to look around, re-tasting pending; but I have to go with my impressions as written down just now.

Jolly Pumpkin / Evil Twin / Mikkeller / Leelanau Hamajang
750ml purchased from the Beer Temple (Chicago, IL) Surprising finds from Jolly Pumpkin way back on this day. Pours a nice golden harvest hue, decent haziness and some fiery orange flashes on the edges at that strike just right. A bubbly bright white head atop is sizable at first, dissipating to a looser film, decent ringer overall. Aromas show fruity and tart appeal, melon and crabapple, firmer strawberries waft in as it settles more. A bit of fruity ester intrigue meets firmer oak, a decent lactic tangy appeal. Yogurt, citrus, tart green grapes and a bit of saline appeal, earthy and mineral saltiness. Subtle fleshy peach, seedy strawberries, sweet and tart. Initial is lighter bodied, mellow carbonation and firmer fruity tartness, a bit of watery flabby appeal, some tannic depth, citric grapefruit, tart green grapes, a gentle waft of strawberry nectar, subtle peach, melon, some decent funk and oak start their roll through as we get accustomed. Lighter, nuanced, some horseblaket appeal, straw and crisper grains meet yogurt, punchy tart fruit. a bit of straw, funk, seabuckthorn a truly intriguing flavor profile, a bit earthy, mineral like saline and linger mellow. I think Innovator Man loses some potency in the blend but a bit more oak and nuance shines through from the Fandango. A gentle funk, a bit of tannic appeal, albeit lacking the bright flavors of the individual beers and certainly falling a bit flabby on the palate. Overall, I can pick out elements from both sides of the blend but together, they seem to lack pop. A pleasant nose, solid look, a bit flat on flavor but solid drinker overall. Certainly easy to put down, lemony and limey flavors trickling out, a fuzziness, funk, mellow oak.

Light body, thin texture and average carbonation in palate. Nonaggressive funky witbier...

Jolly Pumpkin La Vida Improvisacion
Draft at Wiseguys (Goodfellas Pizza) in OTR, served in a snifter. Pours a lightly clouded gold with a small white head that settles into a ring. The tropical fruits and JP house character are all there - stone fruit, papaya, mango, citrus - with oak, leather, earthy funk, and dusty grains. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a fruity, moderately tart and acidic mouthfeel. Good offering; I haven’t revisited them in a while and I was due.

On tap at Crest in Clintonville: brownish orange pour, light tan head. aroma of nutty, bready, light smoke. tastes are yeasty, caramel, grain, herbal. smoke was drowned out a bit by more sour than I was expecting - we were speculating that the end of the keg may have played a role higher sour level. interesting overall.

Jolly Pumpkin Madrugada Obscura
Note: 7+/10

bottle. Light brown with one finger head. Medium body. Less sour and funky than most JP beers. Chocolate comes through pretty well. Mild fruity nature, I certainly wouldn’t have placed it as kumquat. Interesting beer, though probably not worth what I paid for the bottle.

Jolly Pumpkin / Evil Twin / Leelanau Innovator Man
Bouteille 75cl, batch 481/579/581, bottled 11.05.2015.

Jolly Pumpkin Saison X
Draft into a snifter showing moderately filtered yellow with two fingers of clean white foam. The nose shows bretty funk, dry apricot, and a very pungent acetic edge. The palate is full bodied and fully carbonated. Flavors of light brett in the background with juicy and zest citrus notes spread throughout along with an acetic vinegar-like acidity throughout that works very well altogether. Juicy and clean, this is a really nice saison.
