Scopey	3.4 Užavas Ziemeļu alus / Baltic Dark Beer 500ml bottle from the 24hr shop on Market St, Aberdeen. It pours a lovely clear deep ruby with a lasting frothy beige head. The aroma is brown bread, rivita, malt loaf, nutty, dried fruits, fruit cake, earth, wood and distant old guy fart. The taste is dry initially, bitter - sweet, nutty, caramel, toffee, brown bread, malt loaf, malt beverage, bourbon biscuits and dry toasty malts with a nutty finish. Average body and moderate carbonation. I think this is actually decent. Drinks well. Thursday, April 13, 2023

The aroma is earthy, nutty, woody, earthy, rivita, brown bread, cereal, spent malt bins left out on hot day and grain. The taste is dry, touch of bitterness, earthy, woody, nutty, leather, cereal, grain, a splash of mighty malt, dried leaf and a touch of spice with a drying finish. Average body and carbonation. A bit too earthy and dry to be honest. A touch of sweetness wouldn't go amiss. Monday, March 20, 2023
Martinsh	2.9 Užavas Savvaļas Dzērvene Bottle from Linda Shop, Burton on Trent (not listed on RateBeer). Pour a cloudy golden yellow with a large white head. Not much of an aroma, but there’s some Belgian yeast and bubblegum lurking in there. In the mouth it is terribly sweet with a chewy texture like pink strawberry sweets. Flavour starts with a little maltiness and banana before becoming strawberry, plus some lemon zest and just a hint of cranberries. Sweetness lasts until the finish. I was going to say “yuck”, but it grew on me after a while – but it’s rather strange. Wednesday, March 1, 2023

This is fresh and malty with low hops and low carbonation. Very tasty and very drinkable. A little sweet. A little grainy. East European in style - Czech, Polish, Russian. SilkTork	2.9 Užavas Tumšais / Dark Beer Jan 2023. 500ml dark bottle - bought from a local Indian shop in St Mary's, Southampton. Claims to be unfiltered; there's no sediment, though the head has the appearance of natural foam rather than forced carbonation. And the mouthfeel inclines more toward natural than forced. Amber in colour. Malty aroma - like unfermented malt. Same in the taste - there's a distinct unfermented malt flavour. A little touch of Shreddies. I like it. Few hops. I could wish for more body, and more yeast/fermented character, though taking it for what it is I like it. Not a lot - its just too much like unfermented malt drinks - but I do like it. Martinsh	3.9 Užavas Ziemeļu alus / Baltic Dark Beer Bottle from Deya Shop, Burton on Trent. Drank / shared at Ebenezers, Crewe – to celebrate Latvian Independence Day. Pours a dark ruby with a small off-white head. The aroma is generally sweet with toffee and malts plus hints of caramel. In the mouth it is fruity with traces of cola and continental hops. Flavour gradually comes through from treacle and golden syrup plus traces of tar and herbs. Sweetness returns in the finish. This is nice, and very drinkable. Wednesday, November 23, 2022

Martinsh	3.5 Užavas Gaišais / Light Beer Bottle from Deya Shop, Burton on Trent – but have drunk this many times in Latvia since 1997 ! Pours a golden amber with a small transient wite head. Malt and grains feature in the nose. A harsh graininess is the initial impression in the mouth, but this soon subsides to a sweet malt flavour with some underlying caramel and German style lager hops. Finish is sweet but with some hoppiness too. Very good for the style of beer. Monday, January 3, 2022
