--> 8/9/8/8 Thursday, October 10, 2013

3.5 Keller Bräu Festbock This review is somehow of archeological value as this brewery has closed recently and the beer has expired a few month ago. Got this from a beer friend in Grieskirchen. Color is a pale orange, lots of coarse bubbles, medium to coarse head, not stable. Bready malts, some booze, metallic. Sweet vienna or munich malt, miniscule bitterness towards the end, not much alcohol, taste of iron. Refreshing carbonation, medium body Good example of the Austrian interpretation of the style. Not overly sweet as a plus and metallic taste and aroma as a minus. Sad to lose another old (1446) privately owned brewery though this particular beer probably won’t be missed by many. 3.4 Keller Bräu Dunkel Good head formation, decent lacing. The cloudy dark honey color with beige head is a wonderful sight. Aroma is pleasant but faint. Flavor does lean a bit toward the sweet side with overwhelming honey notes and not much of a hops presence. Mid-thin bodied with subtle action on the palate. I typically prefer more balance in the flavor of my beer, but this one pulls off the overabundance of sweetness quite well. I don’t think I could drink this year-round, but for mild weather and with a light meal this beer has made it into my top 5 beers (despite the moderate rating) Monday, April 26, 2010

1.9 Keller Bräu Dunkel Bottled: Foamy, yellow head, dark brown color. Sweet malty aroma, sugary. Flavor is very, very sweet, sugar and malt notes. Unbalanced, sweet end. Much too sweet, remainds me on cola. Sunday, June 22, 2008

2.8 Keller Bräu Naturtrüb A hazy yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet hoppy combined with notes of brewmash and oranges. While the flavor is very hoppy and grassy which gives it a slight bitter end. Sunday, April 17, 2005

3.6 Keller Bräu Naturtrüb Bottle, GBBF 2004. Gold with a slight haze, thin white head and gentle condition. Good sweet yeast and assertive hop in the aroma, much the same mix in the mouth but cranked up a notch and a malty sweet finish with lingering hop and yeast bitterness. A good kellerbier that would give a few Franken beers a run for their money. Wednesday, November 3, 2004

3 Keller Bräu Naturtrüb Yellow colour, with an unusual greenish tinge. Something a little flowery at the top of the aroma. Dry, becoming bitter towards the finish. Inoffensive and a lot better than many lagers. Bottled at GBBF 2004. Saturday, September 11, 2004

3.8 Keller Bräu Naturtrüb Bottle. This was really, really good, but i must admit, i’d had a lot to drink by this stage. Dry, herbal, grassy, quite dry and pretty bitter on the finish, and yes, a bit salty. Friday, September 3, 2004
