Prufrockstar
3.8
Upland Bad Elmerís Porter
Bottle thanks to Eric and Brynís uncle. Dark brown, khaki head. Lots of roast and chocolate with hints of dark fruit in the background. Really solid classic Porter nose, and taste backs it up. Leans slightly to the sweet side, but dry roasty lightly bitter finish. Medium body, average carbonation, creamy smooth texture. Overall: really nice.

Upland Peach Lambic
Draft at the source. Hazy glowing gold, no head. Aroma of poopy overripe fruit, herbs, and mildew (like the stink of my clothes when theyíve been left damp in the basement). That aspect is really, really offputting to me, because I canít tell you how many times Iíve left the house and gotten an hour into my work day before I realize that my shirt stinks and I have no way out except to cope with the stench and avoid other humans. Herbal, sweet-tart, tannic (like a light fruity tea). Lasting sweetened cereal finish. Light body, lively carbonation. Overall: I canít get into this, but only because of the stink.

Upland Wet Hopped Sour Reserve
Draft at wood shop. Looks like Basis, but with better lacing. Herbal, grassy, fruity funky nose. Honeyed character. Surprising amount of non-description fruit here. Gives the impression of being less sour than basis. Nice interplay of hops with the rest here actually. Not particularly bitter. Would like to drink another glass of this one.

Upland Stoaked
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a very small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that were fully diminished and left behind a typically carbonated semi-transparent golden brown colored body and a poor lacing. The mild aroma was malty and sweet. The vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering vinous aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of mildly vinous sweet mild brown malt caramel and malt. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

on tap @ Ei8ht Ball / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of malt. Clear medium amber color, off white head that drops to a thick rim, hanging strands of lace. Taste is semi-sweet malt that passes through medium carbonation for neutral hops. Joining at the end is solid tropical fruit. Balanced, unique, easy to drink. Iíd will have this again.

Upland Petal to the Kettle
Draft at Northside Yacht Club, served in a pint glass. Didnít expect to see this on tap down in Cincinnati. Pours a cloudy, pinkish gold-orange with a small white head that settles into a ring. Definitely has the strawberry character it describes, slightly less peach, and then grapefruit is the third most dominant fruit. The hibiscus and rose petals are also in the mix, but I got a stronger note of black peppercorns. Thereís some lactic funk and sourdough. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a spicy, sour, doughy mouthfeel. So weird. Interesting experiment.

Upland Petal to the Kettle
10 ounce draught snifter at The Rock in Beloit, WI, August 17th. Pinkish-orange, murky and almost opaque, with a lasting bit of head and some fine lacing...dry and woody aroma, with sour cherry and cardamom becoming present as it warms up, and a bit of herbal/spicy hint, oregano or more likely thyme...after several nosings and a few tastes, I get some strawberry and kiwi as well...to me, nothing stands out as particularly "floral" and it takes a while before I really start to enjoy this nose, for all of the different characteristics involved itís a bit on the weak side...on the tongue itís mostly dry, lightly tart rather than really sour, no hope presence (not that any was expected) and Iím afraid too little malt, itís thin and overly carbonated given that lightness...to me, ultimately, the combination of tart with little body just doesnít cut it. I donít know if itís over-attenuation or what - others seem to like it so maybe it was just me on that day. At any rate, fair-to-middling is what Iíd have to call it at the moment.

Bottle shared with koleminer20. I met my yearly goal for new beers tried this year on this one. Whoops. Aroma is cherry funk, sour, skins, smells a lot like 3F Oude Kriek. Appearance is hazy red, off white pink head. Taste is sour as fuck, cherry, sweet, funk, tart, skins, wow. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light crisp carbonation, wonderful cherry candy sour aftertaste. Overall, wow. This is so so good.

Upland Strawberry Lambic
Sample courtesy of LinusB. Pours hazy reddish pale pink with a very small pinkish white head that doesnít leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is fruity with crackers, lemon juice, fresh strawberries, clotted cream, minerals, lemon zest and hints of barnyard. Taste is heavy sour, fruity and buttery. Mouthfeel is dry, tart, mouth-puckering and light bodied. Finish is sour with lemon juice, lime juice, frozen strawberries, clotted cream, bitter, minerals and lemon zest. Way too sour and way too heavy on the diacetyl.

This draft brew from a beer bar poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation semi-transparent light red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The weak aroma was malt hop. The mild citrus crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish with a mellow fruity aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of sour hops and malt. A wonderful best in class brew.

Upland A Barrel Named Phyllis (Batch 1)
Shared with me by a stranger at Former Future on 8/05/16. Hast deep brownish copper with a ivory cap. The nose punches you with tobacco and red wine must and a deep earthy sour twang. Big sour body thatís earthy, acidic, dark mellow fruity, a little burnt tobacco, and a bit of tart red fruit on the finish. A bit smokey and tobacco-y and a little too sour.

Growler: Hazy yellow-gold with a thick, off-white head. Wheat, slightly tangy banana, clove scent. Flavour is a bit bitter.....banana, orange malt, wheat malt. Not bad, but not as much richness and vibrancy as I prefer.... Light, but does have a fairly wheaty body at finish.

Upland Champagne Velvet
Still recall the presence of a few bottles of CV mixed in with other local favorites as they took up a good deal of space on the bottom shelf of the family "ice box". Glad to see the return of a classic as we shared a 16 oz. can at Lunar Brewing Co., and poured it to snifters, displaying a hazed light gold, nearly straw color, with a modest layer of white head foam that reduced to a thin but persistent ring, light film, and spots of lacing. The nose was light lemon, soft grain, and a fleeting hint of DMS. Light bodied, but not thin or watery, with good carbonation, and low, earthy bitterness. A decent hydrator/post lawn mowing refresher.

Upland Paw Paw
Shared 750 ml. bottle poured to plastic, showing a hazed, light gold, almost straw color, with a fairly persistent, frothy layer of white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose presented a hint of yeasty funk, then lemon, some fruitiness as passion fruit & guava, greenery, light vinous character, and just a touch of breadiness. Light to medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste was similar notes, citrusy, sour, and a lingering, pleasingly puckering effect on the palate.

Upland Stoaked
Bottle from a kind soul at Beer Bloggers Conference 2016. Pours a deep red with a shirt-lived off-white head. Nose is sweet malt, candy sugar, raisins, and if I look hard enough, some oak. Flavor hits with candi sugar and raisin followed by mild oak and vanilla, followed by sweet malt into the finish. Medium in body and an interesting quad overall.

Upland Viola
Pours surprisingly a dark mahogany with some ruby highlights. Nose features a combination of sour cherry, heavy oak, and acetic acid. Iím not sure what a Viola flower smells like, but there is no evidence of floral notes on the nose. Taste hits you with heavy tartness in the form of dark cherry and vinegar, a bit of sweetness to even it out and significant oak on the finish. The sourness is well balanced unlike some of the other enamel ripping Upland brews. Overall, this is a well done sour. Itís hard to tell what the flower did to this beer, but thatís okay because it is tasty anyway.

Upland Orchid
Bottle at Muckfest 2016.

Overall:Really weird meat flavor ruins this.

Pours a thin, clear brown and essentially headless. I knew there was trouble before my nose got to the glass. From first swish, I could smell an odd meat quality to it. A touch of caramel and lemon notes, but that meat was sticking out. What was it: salami? pastrami? corned beef? I finally figured it out when I tasted it. This was my first Lebanon Bologna sour. Lebanon Bologna very much at the forefront. Heavy acidity and some mild caramel malt sweetness, but that processed slightly smoky meat quality overpowered everything. I wasnít a fan of Lebanon Bologna when I tried it during my days in Harrisburg, and I sure didnít like it here.
