Upland Coastbuster Imperial IPA 2.6

Upland Barrel Chested Barleywine Ale 4.8
Alot of bourbon smell with this beer. Hints of whiskey in the taste. Little to no lacing. Small white head dissipates quickly to a oily slick that sits on top of the beer. Sits good on the palate with little alcohol. Like this beer

Upland / New Belgium DarkSynth 3
From a 750 ml bottle. Pours brown with small head. Aroma of tart raspberries, slight balsamic vinegar and spices. Medium carbonation and big mouthfeel. Flavors of lemon, raspberries, ginger, pepper, vinegar, tart cherry. Overall I think thereís too many ingredients that makes this overly complex and tough to swallow.
Monday, January 25, 2016

Upland Strawberry Lambic 3.9
Poured a pinkish color with aromas of tart funk barnyard with subtle strawberries. Flavors are tart strawberries with wet wood and light vinegar with some sour fruit decent lambic.

Upland Barrel Chested Barleywine Ale 3.5
(tap) bright amber brown colour with a medium tall brown head; great bitter sweet aroma; well hidden alcohol, balanced flavour with a long light bitter finish

Upland Blueberry Lambic 3.9
750 ml bottle via trade. Bottled 11-13-14, batch 0-14. Pours a clear ruby-rose color with a small, fizzy rose-tinted white head that settles into a lasting ring. I had prepared my friends for the most sour one theyíd probably taste all weekend, and it certainly was that, albeit not as aggressive as Iíd anticipated. Blueberry, lemon, oak, grape skins, some pie sweetness, red wine vinegar, and flower petals. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sour, acetic, floral mouthfeel that gets more sour as it crosses the palate. When it first hits itís fairly mellow, but it hits you by the end. Still - not the most sour Upland fruit lambic. At least not this batch.

Upland Teddy Bear Kisses 3.7
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served displaying a black/brown hue, with a fairly persistent hat of tan froth, and wavy ribbons of lacing. The nose was heavily roasted, cocoa, and malty creaminess, with a slight woody scent. Medium to full bodied, with moderate carbonation, the taste added a touch of dark fruit sweetness, and a roasted, resinous, & earthy bitterness that lingered, finishing with a bit of tartness. An Imperial Stout that was hefty, slightly creamy on the tongue, and hid itís abv fairly well. Especially suited our present weather condition!

Easy sipping.

Upland Raspberry Lambic 4.9
Smell and taste is really deep raspberry. Sometimes Upland can taste like vinegar, but not this bottle. Liked it better than raspberry Cantillons if that tells you anything. Light to medium body, light sharp carbonation, and mild fizzy foam.
Friday, January 15, 2016

Upland Sour Reserve Ale 3.9
Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle corked and capped. Clear light orange with medium white head. Aroma is light tart, medium body, well carbonated, thick small-bubble lacing. Taste is nice tart citrus, oak, and some white wine.

Upland Syrupticious Maple Breakfast Stout 3.4
Draft at The Brass Tap-U Square, served in a flight. Pours a dark brown, not quite opaque, with a small beige head that laces the glass. Maple syrup-forward, especially in the aroma, also with cocoa, earth and roasted and toasted malts. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a sticky, thin mouthfeel. A bit one-dimensional, but not bad.

Upland Dragonfruit 3.5
Bottle: Pours clear...wood-tinted gold with almost no head. Very sharp lime, slightly salty, vinegar scent. Peppery, very tart/acidic fruit taste. Grows oaky as it warms.... Sharp and tart, not a bad flavour, but not quite up to par with Uplandís usual offerings.

Upland Strawberry Lambic 5

Upland Easy Chair Amber Ale 2.4
12 oz. bottle from Liquor Barn (Jefferson Commons); shared with my Boo. Aroma: Typical amber ale notes (nuts, caramel) with a light red grape fruitiness. Appearance: More copper than amber with a slightly hazy body; flat carbonation with no head. Flavor: Caramel up front with lighter fruity esters in the background, leading to a mostly abrupt and uneventful finish. Palate: Medium body, slightly sticky texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: As said by several reviewers already, itís a run of the mill amber without any significant unpleasantries. With that said, thereís several similar beers available at a cheaper price, which makes this a tickers only sort of beer.

Upland Syrupticious Maple Breakfast Stout 3.7
Draft pour at Fischmans. Off white head. Vanilla and cocoa notes on the nose. Taste is pretty sweet - probably the maple syrup which is distinct in the taste. Also cocoa and a little dry on the finish. Not bad at all

Upland Wet Hopped Sour Reserve 4
Draft pour on tap at FoBAB 2015 at UIC Forum (Chicago, IL). Pours a hazy orange amber hue, decent haziness, darker middle and subtle glow onto the edges. Frothy whitish head atop with nice thicker ringer, solid lacing. Aromas are a bit hoppy, tart with grapefruit, earth, and subtle tropical allure. Mellow wood, some vanillin and twangy yogurt. A touch floral, mango and hoppy. Initial is lighter end of the fold, some punchy grapefruit and lactic acidity up front. Earth, bitter rind oils and some hop elements. Gentle cobwebs, oak, more grapefruit juice and pulpy sour allure. Backend is dry, a bit oaky and bitter. Some nice flavors, punchy grapefruit driven sourness, lingering lactic appeal, mellow oak, tropical melange. Really nice stuff that goes down easy. Not the prettiest pour but a nice nose, good flavors and punchy sour life. Yum a dum dum. Real reeled in stuff from Upland.

Upland Peach Lambic 3.4
*Old rating. Bottled 10/12/10. Many thanks to ThirstyBird for sharing! The beer starts sourish and fruity. Nice peach there, hints of sourness. Fresh but not too deep or sourish. Great fresh and sourish aftertaste, but far away from its Belgium originals.
