Hebendanz Weihnachtsfestbier
Clear amber-red beer with some lush foam that diminished to wisps, and buttery whiffs of diacetyl off the top. A recurring issue in my encounters with this brewery. Some tangy sweet caramel taste and moderate bitterness beneath the slick buttery character, which annoys. Drink it from a Steinkrug and convince yourself that’s rustic character.

Hebendanz Edel-Pils
Bottle. Clear yellow with a medium sized diminishing white head. Nose has boiled vegetables, honey, paper. Flavour is better, herbal, dried green plants, egg, dry flowers. Unfortunately those boiled carrots and corn come through again into the finish with some metallic flavour too, like copper pennies. Finishes dry, ok mouthfeel. Not much better than an average commercial pale lager.

Hebendanz Posthalter Lager
Bottle bought @ Landbierparadies. Pours clear golden with a very small white head that leaves some spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is tiny malty, tiny floral and slightly earthy with sourdough bread, crackers, hay, minerals and lemon peal. Taste is tiny bitter, very tiny sour, slightly fruity estery, tiny floral and slightly earthy. Mouthfeel is slightly flat, dry and light bodied. Finish is slightly bitter with sourdough bread, caramel, red pears, hay, minerals, iron and lemon peal. Flat, metallic and with in my opinion unsuiting peary eaters. Pass!

Bottle from Erlangernick, thanks Nick. Clear mid brown amber lasting beige head. A bit Marzen on the aroma. Malty. Some decent hop. Funny it’s not as sweet as some. It’s fine, quite drinkable. Easy drinking. Not much hop on finish but I like the malt.

50cl bb27/12/2014, danke McTapps. Clear golden pour, oozing honeyed barley and little hops. Mellifluous in the most literal of honeycoated senses, the advertised "hochfeine Hopfenbittere" must be homeopathically hochfein indeed. Obvious regional malt quality, but ultimately just too sweet & smooth.

My crate of this has alternated between smooth, sweet-tooth-malty beauties and unfortunate diacetyl bombs. I rate the good ones here. Scratches that holiday comfort itch with a mellow light-caramel sweetness on medium body. Lovely light amber color. Welcome edge of alcohol warmth.

My Bottom Line:
Barely honeyed malts and subtle hopping are found in this brew’s ever-so-soft mouthfeel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the hazy blond.
-This definitely lacks the bite I like in German Pilseners.
-The water in this one is as soft as can be. A bit like Roppelt’s or Lieberth’s. Unfortunately, the lacks of hop presence makes this Pils very watery.
-Hebendanz brews are all about mouthfeel, and this one is no exception.
-Carbonation is as low as most gravity-served Kellerbiers.

Bottle at the brewpub.

Draft at Kellerwald as Hebendanz Annafestbier.
Sweet, apple-y, a little metallic and it tends to smell like the croc, really. Seems young and rough and not lagered long enough. Medium-light body, sweet, a little syrupy, malt in the finish is baked bread and saccharine. Minimal hop bitterness, little aroma either.

Flasche (50 cl) von Hopfen & Malz, Berlin-Wedding. - Sattes Goldgelb, glanzfein, herzlich wenig Schaum. No way... Bestenfalls ein dröges Helles.

Hebendanz Jubiläums Festbier
Although it is called a Festbier, it is available the whole year round I think. Never liked the looks of this bottle, strangely styled picture of Forchheim in ugly colors. Clear brown color, head vanishes quickly, not a lot of carbonation. Smells heavily malty. Rather sweet on the onset, slight bitterness, strong malty aroma, roasted, little bit of coffee, dark bread. Not very well balanced. Finishes slightly metallic, but malty flavors stick to the tongue. Body could be more pronounced, not really a beer to remember.

A beer from the nearby town of Forchheim which sports quite a few breweries. Euroflasche. Like the design, quaint. Very short lived, white head. Clear, amber color, quite some sparkling going on in the glass. Starts rather sweet and less bitter, aroma is hoppy of herbs and grass, bit of resin. Average body, somewhat dry, lively carbonation. Slightly alcoholic finish and a bit sweeter than it begins. Easy to drink Export without any faults.
