Earle Estates Traditional Honey Mead
I've this mead 6 times, and I'm not sure why I keep coming back. I suppose I keep hoping I'll get the one good bottle. This particular mead seems very prone to oxidation - 3 out of the 6 bottles I've tasted have had some amount of oxidation, and an apple-cider vinegar taste and aroma to them. From slightly sour to extremely sour on the palate. The 3 good bottles I have tasted were fantastic though. A characteristically traditional mead, very sweet, slightly floral and fruity, and quite robust. The 2 bad bottles I've had recently were the screen printed, while the 2 good ones were with a stick-on label. Taste at your own risk.

Earle Estates Pear Mead
Sampled from a 750 ml bottle this mead poured a dark golden color with no head and no lacing. The aroma was off with honey and tannin but no pear. The flavor was tangy with honey, orange blossom, pear and an off note and tannin. Medium length finish. Full bodied. Not good.

Not really sure how to rate a mead. Tasted this one at the winery. When you add chocolate to the mix, the flavor of the mead is intensified and bursts of cherry. A nice diversion.

Earle Estates Traditional Honey Mead
750mL bottle generously shared by Jeff and Bil. Aroma is subdued warm honey, a touch of smokey mesquite pod, and some faint earth and phenols. Strong drippy legs and a glowing crystal-clear sun-yellow. Flavors are moderate and fleeting. Light delicate honey notes, some potentially off smoky phenolic character and a hint of planty earth. Fleeting. The body is robust, but leaning moderately sweet, yet not overbearing. An alright mead, I suppose.

Bottle thanks to beerbill, sampled on 8/7/08: Pours bright ruby pink with thin legs. Aroma of fresh blueberries, black currants and floral honey. Body starts fairly full and viscous with good sweet honey and blueberry flavor throughout with a touch of brown sugar. A pretty nice mead.

Earle Estates Traditional Honey Mead
This is the first mead I have ever tried in my life so I chose a traditional mead, more true to the style. Served slightly chilled in a white wine glass. Pours a hazy, pale white wine appearance with a slight greenish hue. Really nice, slow syrup-like legs coating the glass. Aroma is honey, grapes(white-wine), alcohol, flowers, light mint and some unpleasant harsh, almost eyewatering scents of something! I couldn’t quite figure it out. Flavor is sweet honey and grapes again with some apple. Somewhat cloying with some tangy funkyness on the tongue. Medium bodied. Dry, sweet alcohol finish. Very similar to a nice riesling(sweetness factor) but this mead has so much more going than that. I would like to think this was a good introduction into the world of meads, but there is obviously better out there.

Earle Estates Cherry Charisma
Bottle courtesy of BMan1113VR. Clear red pink appearance. Very little scent. A tiny amount of fruit. Taste is strangely buttery. Sweet flavors that turn unpleasant. Guess I didn’t think too much of this one, although I think I had a Bud Light Golden Wheat just prior to this, and it’s hard to compete with that.

Earle Estates Twinkle
750 ml bottle. Pours a clear pale straw gold with a very brief, paper thin head. Although this is a sparkling mead, there is only slight effervescence. Mild aroma of honey, slightly musty, along with some floral notes. The flavor is very similar with honey that seems slightly musty along with some floral notes. I have to say that I enjoy most of what I have tried from Earle Estates, and I was happy to see something new when I visited their meadery, but I am not crazy about this one.

Pours an apricot color with no head. Smell is full of honey and dried apricots with some floral notes. Taste has a very slight bitterness from the fruit, but is smooth and full of honey. Not an elite mead, by any means, but solid and drinkable.

Tasting at mcbackus 10/19. Pale gold/yellow color. Apricots and sweet wildflowers come through on the nose. Flavor has a great balance of apricots and honey. A good combo of apricot and honey. This one is really delicious.

Earle Estates Blueberry Bounty
750mL bottle, courtesy of CaptainCougar. Thanks, Tom! Pours a very bright, oily ruby-raspberry color; headless. Lots of blueberries and sweet honey in the aroma; not overly sweet, but slightly muted nose. Light carbonation, if any. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: viscous honey, basic blueberry notes, and heavy honeyed sweetness; generous, but again just a bit muted compared to what I’d hope for; alcohol is nonexistent. Lengthy finish: honeyed sweetness, basic blueberry character; lasting, reserved sweetness.

Earle Estates Pear Mead
750ml Bottle. Pours translucent pale yellow. Aromas of canned pears, tart apples, and fresh pear juice, with the slightest waft of alcohol. The flavor is similar with sweet apples and pears, tart green apples, vinous alcohol notes, combined with semi-sweet and boozy honey. Body is thin yet slightly sticky, going down smooth and sweet. Things I didn’t enjoy is the lack of a nose (really had to search for it), and watered down mid-palate taste that cut the fruity notes off from the honey and alcohol. Not bad. but nothing special.

750ml - It’s the palate that really makes the product here. There is no real bouquet, just a vague waxiness. Flavors come and go with an overall honey (big surprise) pleasantness. I like this.

Why do I continue this? This stuff pours a crystalline color, virtually no color. Aroma reminds me of mint, but not fresh mint, like Scope or something artifical and not pleasant. I am becoming a mead junkie, but these guys are just not my cup of tea.

Courtesy hopscotch. Still, light pinkish red. Fragrant aroma of herbal honey, cherry candy, subtle spice, and, as marked by dsnowden, bazooka gum wrapper. Flavor is the same with an added dose of cough medicine. Medium body is smooth and viscous without being too syrupy. Decent aroma, can’t take the cough medicine in the flavor.

Bottle... Water-clear mead. Aroma of white wine, honey, camphor and menthol. Cloyingly sweet, medicinal flavor with only a rumor of tanginess. Full-bodied with feather-soft carbonation. Finishes sweet and tart... more sweet than tart.

Earle Estates Traditional Honey Mead
Courtesy dsnowden. Pours just the lightest light yellow color. Somewhat syrupy looking. Minty aroma. The honey was there with some frutiness. The taste was very sweet. Alot of apple and honey in the flavor. Also got a little bready flavors to it in the finish. The apple really lingers in the finish also with some minty mouthwash flavors too. Drinkabe, but flawed.

Earle Estates Traditional Honey Mead
Extremely light and almost nondescript golden pour with a light moss green tint, really close to a neutral non-coloration scheme. Fat, evenly spaced legs droop down forming archways like those seen in a typical capital building. Floral and raw, unrefined honey leads in the aroma. Caustic alcohol follows, a chemical infiltration similar to chlorine tablets. Lily, cactus and likewise floral notes really provide an earthy/perfumed substantial component, whether fo rgood or bad I’m unsure. Absent are any intrusive alcoholic or chemical notes in the flavor. Sweetness is medium and wandering. Honey is just (over)loaded with floral notes, hints of earth and lavender-esque perfumes. Actually quite tasty though completely unorthodox and startling. Light herbal mint precedes the conclusion of each sip and wanders into the finish. The conclusion of each sip is lightly drying and lightly astringent, soft honey lingering. The mouthfeel is lively for such a flat beverage style. Light spiciness intermingles with honey sweetnes and provides a sense of balance. Not bad, certainly forgettable. A unique outlook is this meadery’s strong suit, but not a saving grace with most bottled examples of styles provided.

Earle Estates Pear Mead
Double blech...Aroma reminds me of Libby’s Fruit Cocktail, maybe even canned pears. Not appealing in the least. Odd part is, the aroma is really only present when the glass is swirled. The flavor is as bad as I have come to fear, sweet apple juice. I admit I am new to mead, but I think the honey needs to have a more noticable presence. I have to agree with boboski in questioning if this even needs to be on the site as it is 70% pear wine. After this one, I might even have to re-visit the cherry mead from the same producer.

Earle Estates Pear Mead
Courtesy dsnowden. Pours a clear light yellow color. A little syrupy looking, but not too much. Smells like apples or apple juice in the nose. I guess I get a little pear in there, but its been so long since I smelled a pear that it might not be. The taste has alot more apple than pear in my opinionm but very subtle and crisp. The sweetness isnt overbearing and it goes down really smooth. The pear flavor comes out more in the finish and the aftertaste. Pretty nice citrusy mead. Refreshing and great for desserts. Thanks Dan!

Earle Estates Blackberry Blush
750 ml bottle from the meadery. Pours a brilliant clear reddish pink with no head. This is a still mead. Blackberries are probably my favorite berry, and this mead did not disappoint. Some raspberry beers and meads have an artificial aroma and taste; not so with this mead. Very nice, bright aroma of balckberries and honey. Flavor was again blackberries and honey. Sweet, but not cloying or syrupy. I imagine this would be awesome served with some dark chocolate dessert.

Bottle at the meadery. Pours a clear light pink with no head. This is a still mead. Lovely aroma of raspberries and honey. The flavor is dominated by raspberries with a bit of honey sweetness noted as well. An ok mead, but I think I would enjoy this one more if the raspberries were toned down a bit and some other flavors were allowed to surface.

Earle Estates Contemporary Semi-Dry
Sampled at the meadery. Pours a very pale straw gold with no head. This is a still mead. A good bit drier and frankly less aromatic and less flavorful than their Contemporary Mead. This mead has the lowest percentage of residual sugar by far of all of their meads. I am very fond of this meadery, but I must confess that I was not at all impressed with this offering.

Earle Estates Cherry Charisma
Courtesy hopscotch. Clear reddish-pink color. Solid body with no head or lacing. Faint traces of syrupy legs as you swirl it in the glass. Artificial cherry smells comprise the base of the nose, with bubble gum and menthol as complimentary aromas. The flavor is like watered down sour cherry cough medicine sweetened with a bit of honey. There is a distinct sweet and sour element to this mead. Medium body that feels slick in the mouth. Not horrible, but there is a definite overall artificial feeling to it.

Bottle... Clear orange mead. Medicinal aroma of camphor or menthol with a hint of cherry and a splash of vanilla. Moderately pungent and medium sweet; the flavor provides a lot of honey and tempered acidity, but not a lot of cherry. Medium to full-bodied with a 2%-milk mouthfeel and a rumor of carbonation. Tart, lightly sweet finish. I rather liked the stuff, but was expecting more of a cherry kick!
