Rifle Brigade Rifle Lager
Big dissapointment, thin head, thin palate. This beer has a sweet pinapple-y front palate which moves on to mid palate wateriness and finishess off with a very slight bitternet. It looks like the Rifle Brigade is suffering from some rather major inconsistencies with it’s brewing process.

Rifle Brigade Old Black Ale
Nice simple dark ale, great burnt roast/coffee flavours. So-so aroma, but this was the best the beer the Rifle Club produced.

I was quite dissapointed by this. Starts off sweet, then has some sourness, followed by some lingering bitterness. There wasn’t really much aroma and the appearend was quite ordinary. i would have thought it was infected if is wasn’t for the fact Mullet noticed the sourness 2 years ago.

Rifle Brigade Old Fashioned Bitter
Draught at the brewpub. Amber colour, small head. Aroma of toffee and resin. Lightly orangey with clean, hard mouthfeel and a caramelly finish with some resiny bitterness.

Rifle Brigade Old Black Ale
Draught at the brewpub. Really dark brown, no head. Roasty with some coffee. Light bodied with primitive clean hard mouthfeel. Low bitterness. The malt character is too lifeles to make this beer work.

Rifle Brigade Rifle Lager
Nice pale gold colour with a strong, long lasting head. Not much aroma but shows a nice subtle fruitiness as it warms. Clean malt flavour with just enough bitterness to balance. Pretty much the definition of an Aussie lager. I had this beer first and thought it was quite well-brewed, which got my hopes up for the ales, but unfortunately they were not as good.

Rifle Brigade Bullion Lager
Clear pale gold, poor head. Canteloupe aroma with diacetyl and some honey and toffee. Slightly sweet then a mild sour pineapple flavour. Not particularly good, unfortunately. Reminds me of a Geelong product.

Rifle Brigade Old Fashioned Bitter
Dark copper colour, OK yellowy head. Aroma is lightly fruity with some toffee but has a pineappley sour smell. Starts with a solid crystal malt flavour, then some sour pineapples before a big, good, bitterness. Seemed to have a mild infection giving it the sourness but it gives it an interesting edge. Would be nice without the sourness though.

Rifle Brigade Old Black Ale
Clear black colour with nice red highlights, average head. Aroma is dominated by bandaids (!!) with some burnt toast - not particularly good. Tastes a lot better, but still not great. More toast and some coffee as it warmed (it was served very cold.) Quite light-bodied and lacking the thick maltiness I like in this style as well as having little bitterness. With more malt guts and without the bandaids phenolics this would be quite good.
