Ommegang Upside Brown
WATCH OUT IF YOU GET THIS IN A BOTTLE!!! My sample popped and fizzed like champagne in the Broncosí locker room after Super Bowl 50. Took me 4-5 minutes and two thirsty towels to clean up the mess. Well, at least my computer survived. When it settles down, it pours hazy chocolate brown with a thin buff head. Aroma features tempting fruity, toasted malt and funky notes. Flavor delivers more funkiness and a hint of caramel, as well as fruity and subtle malty character. Mouthfeel presents so-so body and typical fizz. Despite the drawbacks, enjoy. Upside down youíre brewing me, youíre giving beer instinctively!

Ommegang Rosetta
12 ounce bottle
A just below world class fruit beer shines from start to finish. It bears some resemblance to the soda like cherry lambics but somehow adds more. Iíd love to try it on draft at some point to see if it tastes brighter or more vibrant.

Aroma / Appearance - A deep fluid black base seeps downwards with one mission - to sweet the pint glass. Sweet cherries, malt, and fruit bloom. If not for a couple of slight variances this would be a dead ringer for New Glarus Apple Ale.

Flavor / Palate - Cherries dipped in bittersweet Hershey kisses warm the palate. The fruity body then marches to a strong focused finish of pure malt. A little more clarity would not hurt but this generally gets the job done. Iíd certainly spring for a few more if the fridge were empty.

Ommegang Biere de Mars
Brewed October 2008. I had this on Friday night, 5 evenings ago, so my recollection is limited. Found this a few years ago in a store that catered to undergraduates, Madeira Liquors in Providence, along with several other retired Ommegangs collecting dust. What a find! Light brown, hazy, thin cream head. Aroma/Flavor of tart apple, pear, bakers yeast, general spice and clove, some lactic, but well infused with the other flavors. Light and creamy palate. Overall, this seems worthy of being the top biere de grarde, a position I think it held a few years ago (I believe the ratings have been inflating in recent years - it would be nice to see some stats on this from RB). Despite being rather tart, it was not as funky as I would have expected given the Brett fermentation. Delicious - too bad theyíre all gone :(

Pours ruby red with small head. Aroma: first comes the pleasant cherry aroma, followed by malty sweetness, some candi sugar and Belgian yeast. Taste: surprisingly crisp (thanks to the cherry) first, followed by the quad-like malt body and then again a crispy palate (due to medium to high carbonation). ABV extremely well hidden. I was expecting a richer taste, but still interesting.

12oz bottle from xroads. Poured a deep.amber body with a frothy off white head. Aroma is blah....lots of caramel and toffee under alcohol and some rotting citrus. Flavor is a touch better with more hops but sadly just a bad bitter citrus flavor and lots of booze plus bad toast and grains, some sweet honey topped dark breads. Big body with average carbonation. Blah

750mL bottle. Pours a rich, hazy red-brown mahogany with a quickly dissipating, medium beige head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, raisins, and figs. Tastes of fruit (cherries, plums, raisins, figs), caramel malt, alcohol, and spice. Rich and complex sweetness. Dry alcohol finish that is somewhat bitter and yeasty. Lingering cherry. Strong carbonation. Mouthfeel is a little thin for a quad but pleasing and made up for by the strength of the finish. Flavors standout much better at warmer temperatures.

Ommegang Game of Thrones #5 - Three-Eyed Raven
Straw coloured body with a light honey glow and a nice, seven centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of hay, grass, light honey, alcohol, dry earth and a bit of light sugars with some yeast still noticeable. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich honey and grassy flavours at first with a dry earthy and perfumey flavour that shows some of the malt right behind and leaves some of the yeast around. Aftertaste shows some dry grass and earth along with a bit of sugars, hay and coriander seed freshness. Overall, a pretty good saison (minus this Gay of Thrones thing) with the pungent Moortgat/Duvel yeast strain that is very noticeable here. I sampled this 75 cL corked/caged bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 26-April-2015 for US$7,89 sampled in the mountains of Shenendoah National Park on 23-May-2015.

This bottled brew from a beer bar poured a medium sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-hazy yellow white colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy and musty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a medium hoppy aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of Irish red malt dough and malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

Spicy nose with a little mustiness, some grassy hops, a touch of caramel malt and yeast. Thick white, persistent foam with little lacing on the glass. Crisp on the tongue with active fizz and a sharp finish. Medium body with some soapiness. Pepper and yeast hit first with the hops and then malt finishing. Metallic / mineral touches and a a bite of alcohol in the end.

appearance: dark brown-garnet, with a scattering of creamy light tan froth around the rim. aroma: muddled cherries, raspberries, hint of molasses, leather, and earth, with a dose of pipe tobacco. taste: sweet, tart, and sour, with cherry, root beer, marzipan, raspberry, some balsamic vinegar. finish: dry, with notes of almond, oak, and some brett funk. notes: Really well done.
