Ommegang 2015 Belgian Independence Day Dry-Hopped Tripel
Floral hops in the nose with some earthy and candy sweet notes. Pours cloudy pale yellow with big, white foam. The taste is a little more complex and very strong. The malt is bread and earth and the finish is bitter hops. Slightly overbalanced toward the hops aspect. Medium body, light fizz. Strong alcohol burn. Sampled at Pittsburgh Big Pour 2015.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a deep ruby red color with a thick tan head. Aroma is of honey, raisins, yeast and some spice. Full body, lots of carbonation, the taste has a sweet characteristic along with some dried fruit and yeast. Finish is a little dry and just a slight tartness on the sides of the tongue after the swallow. Excellent!

Ommegang Three Philosophers
Sinon, aucune fausse note.

Ommegang Game of Thrones #6 - Seven Kingdoms
It pours light golden with a white creamy head. It has good head retention and has a slight haze to it. There is also plenty of lacing. It has aromas of yeast, citrus, grain, and moderately-low banana. There are flavors high in spice, moderate levels of fruit, some clove, banana, and citrus. The grain flavors have a bit of sweet to it. It has a dry finish with moderate carbonation. It has a very slight warming to it. There is also a bit of a bite on the palate. Overall, this is a complex combination of yeast, hops, and malts that produces quite a bit of flavor and aroma.

Bottle (12 oz) bought at Winooski Beverage Warehouse. Clear deep copper with a medium off-white head, good retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is of toasted malts, caramel, nice peppery Belgian yeast, raisins and red fruits. Taste is moderately sweet with caramel, toasted malts, nice alcohol warmth, raisins, mild to moderate spiciness, red fruits and mild herbalness. Medium to full body. Medium carbonation. A tiny bit sirupy mouthfeel. Warming finish from both spices and alcohol. Ommegang rarely disappoint and this beer makes no exception as it’s really well-executed and complex with a nice malth depth and a quite flavorful profile. Tasty stuff.

Pours coffee brown with a thick and rather persistent tan head. Aroma delivers roast malt, oatmeal, chocolate, and subtle coffee tones. It is not strong, but calls for a taste. Flavor ramps up all of the aroma’s tones and adds a snip of woody hops. Mouthfeel presents thin body and weak fizz, but it still goes down nicely.

Tap @ magic tree. Big and black, this beer comes across as large and in-charge. Nice lacing, covers even the most gregarious imperfections. Typical volatile aromas. Flat. Yes, this is terribly on style and offensive as any ubiquitous impy stout. However, I must say that it has a level of civility that is a little more acceptable than mist american impy stout wannah beez. Yes, mouth coating high alky happy BS impy stout, passes as any other.

This beer has instructions printed on the label of the bottle explaining how to pour it for intended experience. If you dump it into your glass you get a different beverage than if you slowly & carefully transfer it w/o disturbing the yeast on the bottom. Poured correctly, its a crystal clear very pale wheat beer with small head - Dumping produces cloudy beer w/ exploding foam that threatens to escape said glass. Fine witbier!

Wow, apparently this beer has changed names since I bought it! This is a rating for the original Art of Darkness version. Apparently I followed the advice to age it which I think was a great idea! Initially I was worried about this beer from the aroma which seemed very sweet and strong which usually means heavy and overly alcoholic (I’m thinking along the lines of The Beast from Avery). However, the first sip dispelled this fear as it was sweet but relatively light in body and truly in the Belgian dark ale style. Dark is right as this is nearly opaque but shows a nice ruby color under strong light. Belgian candy sugar is the most prominent flavor here but there’s also a light bittersweet chocolate note that comes through. The alcohol is noticeable but not overwhelming in any way. Finishes sweet and slightly spicy with cinnamon notes. Excellent beer for the style and I’ll have to try the new version to see if it measures up to the original.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Aroma of slightly bitter malt and wheat. Hazy light golden amber color, pasty smooth 1" white head that stays for the duration, splotches of lace. Taste is wheat and malt with strong carbonation, followed by distinctive hops that stay the whole way, even though light spice emerges, and wheat returns for a curtain call. Overall, good, but I’ve had better. Not likely to repeat.

Rated on 7-16-2016 at 800 Degrees Three Fires, Fort Wayne, IN. The appearance of this draft beer when served is a very small off-white head that is fully lasting, pale yellow transparent body, no visible carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is citrus hops, wheat, floral, fruity, banana, spicy, and malty. The flavor presents moderate bitteress, citrus hops, wheat, fruity, spicy, some banana, and malt. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. A drinkable beer for the style, but definitely not my favorite beer for this style.

Unfortunately this second time buying this beer and second time a major disappointment. It seems getting the beer in drinkable condition in central FL is not possible. Bottle pours with thin layer of head that disappears faster than coca cola fizz. Overfermented, harsh and upsetting to the stomach. Hints of great flavors but the mouthfeel is so offputting that it’s undrinkable. Supposedly ageable beer but not when clearly mishandled which is all too common in FL.

Bottle from World Beer Market/Sake Taniguchi. Slightly hazy straw gold, foamy head that doesn’t leave. Citrus and coriander aroma, funky notes, Belgian yeast, champagne. Taste follows, lemon, apricot, orange, with spice and funk pushing through mid-palate. Medium-bodied, decent carbonation, crisp and dry finish. Really lovely, much closer to the Belgian style than most brewers saisons these days.

This draft brew from a restaurant poured a head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a very softly carbonated transparent weak yellow colored body and a good lacing. The weak aroma was musty. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering mild vinous hop aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of wheat vinous and hops. A decent one that I would consider drinking again.

750ml corked and caged bottle into a hefe glass, cold. Aroma: spice! Banana! Fruit! Juicy! A teeny bit of grass! Just bursting! Appearance: Moderately hazy pale gold body, thick thick thick white head that takes a loooong time to go away. HEAVY lacing. High effervescence. Taste: Hoppy! A little spice at the end but this is a hop driven beer. Lingers. Palate. Clean and light. A little bit of stick on the back of the tongue. Overall: A great experience! Challenging and unexpected.

Smells very malty with a touch of lemon. Awesome super dense cloudy yellow color with one finger white head that last and last. Sweet malts coming out to play first then some citrus fruits like lemon like, and oranges. Light body with carbonation that just tackles the tougue. Love how crisp the carbonation is in this brew. Love your beers keep them coming. Nice work!
