Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale
12oz bottle at Peculier Pub, New York on 04/04/2008. The honey and raspberry mixed quite well, and the sweetness was fairly well measured. Nice lingering malty flavour.

From old tasting notes. Amber red color. Thick creamy beige head. Sweet raspberry malt aroma. Zesty fruity malt flavor. Pronounced bitter hop finish is somewhat medicinal.

Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale
01-31-2008 Appearance: Amber, brown body with a very weak head, barely a finger. Smell: faint sweetness (as it warmed mild raspberry aroma) Taste: sweet, mild taste, very mild actually with aftertaste of raspberries. No honey. Mouthfeel: A bit watery actually, raspberries in background, a bit creamy. As it warms honey finally comes, raspberries are more pronounced. Drinkability: Very ordinary, bordering on bland.

Back in the 90’s, I loved this beer. I used to order special cases of it from Montana. It’s fruity but still tastes like a beer. Haven’t had it in 10 or 15 years though, so I could’ve been wrong.

Tried this over at a buddy’s house. After the first sip, I wasn’t THAT impressd but it slightly grew on me towards the end. Still seemed a little off-balanced, slightly bitter or metallic? Not sure if that’s part of the style, but I have been hesitant to try Spanish Peaks after that. It wasn’t bad at all, just not what I expected. Would most likely rather go with a Belgian Ale instead.....or some other micro with similar style.

"pretty standard english pale. lots of malt with a hint of spice and a little orange peel on the side. nothing to make me mad, or to change my mind about a fairly boring style."

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite Peach Wheat
Bomber, shared with the wife on 16th July 2014 while on holiday in California. Poured into Corsendonk badged stemmed tulips it had a hazy peachy look, the off-white head soon left even though carbonation bubble trails could be seen through the cloudy body. Apricots with the peach aromas and taste, sweet and fizzy. As a one off I enjoyed it, as did the wife: would I buy another, sorry guys at the brewery, No.

Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale
It has a deep amber colored body with good clarity, visible carbonation and a light tan head. The head is very light and soapy. It very quickly fades down to just a very thin wispy layer. Lacing is minimal and slick. The aroma hit me with a light waft of raspberry candy as I opened the bottle. In the glass and with a proper inspection I get the same raspberry candy but with notes of honey and biscuit like malt. The flavor is very much the same as the aroma. It has a light body with a sweet malty character. There are notes of sweet honey and sweet/tart raspberry with hop flavor way off in the distance. The hop flavor just kind of picks up on the tartness of the berry and adds a very mellow subdued bitterness to the finish. Its palate feels light and silky with light somewhat fizzy carbonation.

12oz bottle (August Schell Brewing)-Pours a light clear blond. Aroma of spices and wheat. Taste of the same. This light bodied brew does not have the characteristics or taste of a Hefe so not sure if miscategorized or just bad beer.

I used to drink a lot of this beer back in the mid 90’s when Spanish Peaks was it’s own company. 12 oz brown bottle. Poured a dark amber with a large foamy white head that faded quickly. Aroma of artificial peaches and crap lager underneath. Flavor was artificial peach and vanilla with a sour mash basic lagerish flavor undeneath. Got significantly worse as it warmed. Medium length finish. Medium body.

Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale
Bottle. Light orange, average off white head. Aroma of perfumey raspberry, light caramel. Flavour is raspberry, more candyish than perfumey, with sweet underlying malts. Not bad, but I prefer a raspberry character that is more tart and stemmy, which I think is hard to achieve with honey.

FROM NOTES: July 6, ’12 Poured from 12 ounce bottle into pint glass A: Sweet caramel malt and floral hops A: Amber in color with big tan head and bubbles through out T: Initially crisp then caramel malts and then a hoppy finish that sticks around P: Medium body with heavy carbonation O: Nothing really stands out as exceptional, but it would be a good session beer. Decent beer. I don’t know if anything about it really stands out to me, but it is one that would be a good session beer for most folks.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
Bottle. Pours with a big ol’ foamy head, quite rocky and frothy. The aroma is quite woody, hinting at bark and earth. This does drink with a dirty aspect, gritty even. The hops are quite mashy, giving off a wet-sodden appeal. Filling beer. (#5276, 10/5/2013)

Rated on 3-30-2009 (Bottle) This beer pours a medium sized white fizzy head with poor retention, transparent gold body, slow rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The Aroma is wheat, citrus and a hint of hops. The Taste mimics the Aroma. The Palate is tingly and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is okay, but it needs more flavor. The taste did not leave me wanting to drink this beer again.

Hazy medium orange body with a tall, sticky, off-white head. Fruity caramel aroma. Good aroma, but not the hoppy one i was expecting from an IPA. The flavor is balanced between the sweet malts and the light hop bitterness. Decent flavor, but again it follows the aroma and isn’t very IPA-like.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
22 oz served in a Great Divide pint glass A - Pours a hazy dark copper with 3 fingers of sudsy off white head. Very good retention with lots of 3D lacing left behind. S - Bready biscuits, caramel malts, pine hops, light citrus, T - Earthy caramel malt with edges of woody tannins, some herbal hops and whispers of citrus. Has an almost pecan like bitterness. M - Medium body, medium carbonation. This seemed like a tired IPA. Lackluster and very forgettable. Serving type: bottle 08-04-2012

Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry Ale
Bottle pours dark amber with tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of raspberries. Flavor is tart raspberry with light honey and breaded malts. A very light and rather refreshing lambic style ale. I rated this by comparing it to other beers in its style. Some of the low ratings of this ale may be due to comparing it with all ales rather than comparing it with other fruit beers.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
Bottle. Hazy medium orange amber with a generous and lasting frothy white head. Aroma is surprisingly muted for an IPA, none of the expected aggressive hoppy aromatics, mostly just sweet caramel with light florals. English toffee flavoured malts dominate here, with light floral hop notes and a slightly herbal bitter finish. A low-key IPA, but with a nice malt profile that I enjoyed anyway. I can see why hopheads may lament.

Ruby-copper, hayzy, thin off-white head. Aroma is fruity, with candi-sweet raspberry. Flavor is initially grainy and relatively dry, followed by a hint of fruity sweetness and a raspberry character that is more earthy and natural than it is in the aroma. Finishes dry and slightly tannic.

Pretty much what you’d expect from a wheat beer. Lots of peach aroma with wheat and sweetness. Pours an amber orange with a head that quickly dissipates. Taste is peach, wheat and pretty sweet. The finish is a lingering sweetness that begins to become slightly unpleasant after a bit. Overall, it’s not bad but not super great either. A brew I’d say is best in small portions.

Spanish Peaks American Pale Ale
Bottle:   Fiery amber, sediment abounds, large frothy white head, so-so lacing.   Soft citrusy/rindish hops on the nose.   When I say soft, I mean soft.   Not terribly biting on the tongue, decent malt base.   Not lopsided, which is nice.   Not too bright either tho.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Fades somewhat quickly, but then again I am used to bruiser Pale Ales.   Probably truer to style than I am used to.   Better than I was expecting.

Bottle, shared with my wife. Deep amber with an average white head that fades quickly. Sticky sweetness with an estery yeast quality and a mild candyish peach note toward the finish. This comes across as a heartier almost Belgian-esque fruit beer with its higher ABV, its stickier palate, and it’s light yeast character. But it was still a bit much to finish a bottle this size, even between the two of us.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
Pour is a cloudy amber with a large white head. Aroma is a pleasent hop and not much else. Flavor is way more malty with an ever so slight hop but finishes with a wierd sourness. This was more of an English style IPA but I’m thinking the brewer was not going for that. Kinda like someone’s first attempt at homebrewing an IPA.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
Location: 22 oz bottle from Total Wine-McLean, 1/31/13

Aroma: The nose is heavy malty, with lots of caramel, pale malts, and some grapefruit hops
Appearance: It pours a reddish-orange color with a lasting beige head and some medium lace
Flavor: This one has a medium-plus sweet flavor, heavy caramel, and a light-medium hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it is kind of sticky, has an average carbonation, and a mid-dry finish
Overall Impression: For me, this was not a particularly good example of an IPA. The hops are a bit lacking here and the sweet caramel malts are a little too present. It isn’t terrible as a beer, but as an IPA, it misses the mark.

Spanish Peaks Chug's Private Stash Big Bite IPA
Was hesitant about getting this as five dollar bombers are like 50 cent avocados--tempting, but often disappointing. Not really encouraged by this being from Chug’s private stash. I can imagine the profile. Name: Chug. Favorite Style: Yes. Preferred Drinkware: Funnel. As far as the actual beer...pours a nice dark copper with very little head and similar lacing. Fairly active carbonation with some clinging bubbles. Nose is very malty with some roasted grains. Flavor, while not bad, is more malt than hops. Finish is clean. Overall, not a bad IPA--particularly for the price, though I would have relaxed the malt a bit and increased the hops.
