3.2
King IPA (USA)
Opened bottle and there goes the foam! Poured to a Hazey dark orange color leaving behind a smell of a rich coco. Taste almost earthy and a hint of some citrus fruits.

King Hard Tail Ale
Bottle at ABC beer tasting. Poured an amber gold with an off-white head. Aroma consisted of a bit of hops and malts with a sweet edge and some berry notes. Nice well balanced combo of hops and malts and finishes with a malty kick.

King Mocha Java Stout
12 oz. Maybe this used to be a 9% imperial, but it is no longer. Nice black/brown pour with a small light tan head. Roast coffee and malt aromas, some light chocolate. Taste was straightforward, similar. Coffee and light chocolates. Medium body, not quite creamy mouthfeel. I thought this was a nice coffee stout. I’m going to guess I got a bottle from the next batch, because it did not match any of the previous reviews and I certainly would have noticed.

Bottle. Cloudy, orange with small white head. Aroma is sour lemon, slightly sweet, citrus. Flavor is very sour lemon, sweeter, wheat. Body has a pretty intense sourness with big bubbled carbonation. Sour lemon all around.

King Hard Tail Ale
12oz bottle. Slightly cloudy, light amber color with a very small off white head. Decent citrus and light pine aroma. A bitter citrus and hoppy taste from start to finish. Soft carbonation and medium bodied. Crisp and refreshing. Got my sixer directly from the brewpub so I know it was fresh.

King Irish Red Ale
12oz bottle: Nice deep red color, no trace of a head. Upon first taste discovered there was absolutely no carbonation, like it came right out of the primary fermenter. Consistency seems to be a problem with their bottles as I’ve gotten sixers that were very good, one’s that were infected and now I get this one that’s as flat as a pancake. Safest bet is to probably stop in and get a pint or growler fill.

Growler from the brewery. Hazy copper pour....with a nice head and very good lacing. Great aroma ofcitrus and grassy notes that is not too over powering. Wow this stuff is really good!!!!! Ridiculously smooth with a very nice hop character. This is one of my new favorites and could be a killer session brew

At the brew pub.....Black pour into a shaker with a nice tan head.subtle roasted malt notes. Same with the flavorwith a hint of chocolate, coffee and unfortunately water.but it did finish strong with a touch of vanilla amid all the other flavors. A solid pour. not exceptional or bad but good.

King Organic Amber Ale
On tap at the brew pub! bright red pour with a medium fluffy white head. Not much of an aroma....slight yeast and a touch of macro. Slightly sweet with a touch of hops and more yeast. unfortunatley it a touch thin on the mouthfeel and flavor. Not bad would be a great session beer, especially with the slight hop kick at the end. I think I used the word touch too much ha ha

On tap at King...Dark brown/black color with a big billowy mocha head. Aroma is typical coffee and dark malts. Flavor is the same, coffee and roasted malt. Palate is a bit too watery, carbonation is adequate. Pretty tasty but unoriginal porter.

King Hard Tail Ale
On tap at King...Was told this is over 7%, which I question. Very nice orange color, looks almost like a wheat. Flavor is bitter throughout, with some hop complexity showing coming through. Some caramel notes try to balance it out. Average mouthfeel, average carbonation. Really solid pale ale.

King Hefeweizen
Murky dark gold yellow color with great two finger head. Explosively carbonated, no joke. Just about lost an eye when I popped off the cap. It burst off and ricocheted off my ceiling. Needless to say, this was one of the most aggressively carbonated beers ive had, which actually worked very well with the beer. Lots of citrus and some banana flavors. Some tartness and spices too, but not a ton. Medium light bodied. I had a hoegaarden after this one, and much to my surprise because of the kings carbonation, the hoegaarden tasted flat.

King Two Fisted Old Ale
Pours a deep brown amber color with minimal head. Full bodied with tons and tons of carbonation, could barely pour it. Dark malts, chocolate, toffee, caramel, and some dark dried fruit flavors. Finishes a little drier, but not my style.

Hazy orangish amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma of floral and citrus hop and caramel. Body is a bit watery with an oily mouth feel and trends towards medium bitterness at the end. Hops aren’t that abundant but come across with some citrus and pine.

King Mocha Java Stout
On tap at Crunchy’s in East Lansing. Bartender took care of any foam problem there might have been. Black with a small tan head. Fiance loves Kahlua, so she was a fan in that respect. I found it to be sweet and watery, like coffee with way too much sugar (I drink my coffee black anyway).

First of all, I’m glad that the guy at the store warned me that it would explode in my face, because it definitely did. The foam just kept coming and coming coming and coming and it took about 20 minutes for the foam to settle down into an actual glass of beer. I thought it was annoying, yet my boy Ankur argued that it was all in good fun. Once settled, it poured into a brownish mess of a haze with a foamy white head. The head had dark brown flecks of yeast and perhaps some of the spices of the beer on it. The beer itself looked like apple cider, with chucks and flakes swashing around throughout. It smelled strong of malt and that’s it, however the tasting had much more to offer. It had a wintery spice and smooth finish of a delicious holiday ale. However, after the foaming fiasco, the brew is almost flat and could afford a little more carbonation once in the glass. The body is a solid medium, however sludgy it looks from the side. Overall it’s drinkable and interesting and I would have totally hated it except for its splendid flavor. From the few other ratings, it appears maybe the batch to Michigan had too much yeast or was shakin to hell for a week straight, who knows. At least I was warned beforehand and thus only suffered MINIMAL property damage...

This one poured a very very dark amber with little head. It smelled very sweet, perhaps of apples or even citrus. It went down smooth and finished very citrusy and hoppy. I would definitely recommend this brew and definitely have it again.

King IPA (USA)
Bottle opened with a load hiss and poured with a huge head, like the whole glass was head. Pours a lightly hazy amber with golden notes and a huge foamy off white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, caramel, cardboard and nuts, some citrus. Flavor of grapefruit, bitter hops, probably the most extreme hop bitterness I have experienced. Also getting some pine and other mixed citrus notes, caramel and some toffee. Very tingly mouthfeel. I think some infection may have set in on this one. But still ended up being a decent IPA.

King Pontiac Porter
12 oz bottle. Falls short of the depth and complexity that a stout needs...something potentially wrong with this explosively fizzy beer...deliberate care must be taken not to fill your glass with foam. Head is somewhat acidic, almost citrusy, while the beer itself is flat chocolate and smoke w/ not much else.

Pours with a comical SEVEN finger thick head. Smells of dust, beef jerky and rawhide and shoe leather. It looks like a damn root beer float. Lightly tart with lots of coffee notes. The flavor isn’t nearly as fooked as the appearance and aroma would suggest.

King IPA (USA)
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Three Cellars in St Francis, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-hazy golden orange brew with a thick and lumpy off-white head that slowly dissipates and stays thick throughout. Aroma of citrus zest, a touch of oranges, mild caramel malt and a touch of toffee. Taste is medium bodied, well-carbonated with flavors of light caramel and apricot flavored malts, grapefruit and lemon zest with some toffee. Finish is semi-bitter that quickly disappears to a mild APA light bitterness.

King Two Fisted Old Ale
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Three Cellars in St Francis, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear dark copper amber brew with a, good lord, the thickest and lumpy off-white head to come out of a 12-oz bottle - even after it being in the fridge for a few days. Reading all the previous reviews, I have been warned. Aroma of toasted dark caramel malt, raisins, vanilla, fruity character with a touch of roasted nuts. Taste is medium to full bodied, well-carbonated with a metallic texture with flavors of roasted caramel malt, raisins, mild brown sugar and a touch of herbal spice. Finish is slightly dry and metallic with a roasted caramel and raisin aftertaste that slowly disappears after the finish.

4-2-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to alexgash
Black pour with average tan head that disappears as quickly as it formed with no lacing. Smells like walnuts on fire. It has a burning roasted coffee bean and chocolate smell. However, it isn’t very bold or very big on the chocolate in the flavor - a bit lack luster. Watery background and surprisingly thin, disappointingly thin.

King IPA (USA)
Poured a volcanically effervescent amber with a voluptuous frothy white head that would not stop erupting. Had to place the bottle in the sink and pour it over a duration of several minutes. Nice initial aroma of pine and grapefruit rind with a bit of sweetness. Taste follows with dry notes of rind, grass and a bit of bitter earthiness with a touch of toffee sweetness. Slightly spicy. Extremely bubbly body gives it almost a hoppy-tripel feel. While it is likely that the foam phenomenon was more due to the bottle’s age than its intended construction, I must admit it added a bit of liveliness to what could have been otherwise a forgettable beer.

Bottle courtesy of alexgash, I believe. Thanks!
Pours black with a smallish tan head that fades quickly. Smell is strong coffee, thin roasty malt and an almost cardboard-like component. Flavor is coffee up front and roasted malt, but very thin. Thin malt flavor, roastiness and body, despite the strong coffee flavor. Not great, but drinkable.

King Hard Tail Ale
Appearance: Pours a clear, orangey body with a small, very short-lived white head. Smell: A simple, honest aroma of citrus and toffee with a hint of grass. Taste: True to the aroma, the taste is of mildly sweet toffee-minded maltiness. Hoppy citrus flavor with some grassiness in there, too. Medium bitterness that lasts into the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A true, decent APA.

On tap at the BrewPub Pours a deep rich dark brown (almost black) with a light brown head. Roasted barley flavor with hints of molasses/caramel. Very smooth-drinking beer. The batch on tap right now seems to be among the best of this variety from this brewer.

King Crown Brown Ale
12oz bottle, no date. Clear brownish ruby with a tiny bubbly beige ring. Upon cracking the bottle, I took a quick whiff and got the unmistakable aroma of beef jerky. Nosing the glass, it’s still there, but not as up front. Besides the salted meat, some light roasted and toasted malts and brown sugar round out the aroma. No smoked meat or jerky in the flavor, but there is still the salty characteristic. The roast comes off as a little ashy, unfortunately, and there isn’t any brown sugar to be found. The fact that there is almost no carbonation at all makes the body seem much heavier than it is. Not too bad despite a few shortcomings.
