Mikkeller Reviews

Mikkeller / Grassroots Wheat is the New Hops IPA 3.9
On tap at Craft Room, Zagreb. Creamy, milky amber-ochre body with a white head. Juicy, full citric aroma, mild brett undertones, but this is a hop fest, and a beautiful one at that. Similar hop-fest of a flavor, fruit everywhere, juicy citrus, tropical fruit, quince, mango, marmelade really, and yes, bretty notes linking everything. Creamy mouthfeel. A bit herbal as well, especially in the bitterish aftertaste that does build up a little later on, despite a somewhat soft, light finish. This is a lovely beer, just a touch away from the best of the best I’ve had. Just enjoyable.

Mikkeller 黑 / Black 4.4
This is a hard one to rate, because its really something special! Yet, not a beer I would go and drink everyday! I drank the whole thing myself, and was actually a bit tipsy afterwards, and it definitely tasted better and better the more i Drank, yet, at some point i simply felt full and the last 25% was actually a bit hard to get down. All in all a fantastic experience, and definitely a beer I would recommend to try!

Mikkeller Dim Sum Beer 3.5
@IPA Bar Berlin; pronounced aromas of lemongrass with some lime; straight, clean, lean, simple in taste, monodimensional brew featuring lemongrass and citrusy hops. Very well done in this clean simplicity.

Mikkeller Årh Hvad?! (BA Cherry Wine) 3.5
Bottle at Craig’s place. It pours clear amber with a small white head. The nose is soft, fresh, juicy, cherry bakewell tart, candied stuff, wood and earth. The taste is slick, bitter – sweet, candied fruit, glace cherry, fruit cake, damp wood, earth and must with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot of depth, but it is pretty novel.

Mikkeller Centennial Session IPA 3.7
(Bottle) Pours hazy golden with small white head. Lovely aroma - pine, lemon, hints of pineapple. Light body with great carbonation. Good tasting as well - refreshing and unusual. The start has a balance of citrus and earthy spicy notes. The latter carry through the mid palate developing into some good but not aggressive bitterness in the finish. There’s some pretty subtle light malt plus citrus notes in the background, and maybe hints of funk. Excellent, interesting and enjoyable beer.

Mikkeller Beer Geek Dessert 4.7

Mikkeller Mexas Ranger 4.3
330 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 10/14/2019. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and rocky dark brown bread with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Incredible appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, chili pepper, smoke, tobacco, nuttiness, light dark fruit/licorice, pine, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/spice, and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, chili pepper, smoke, tobacco, nuttiness, light dark fruit/licorice, pine, light char, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Good amount of roast/char/pine bitterness and pepper spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, chili pepper, smoke, tobacco, nuttiness, light dark fruit/licorice, herbal, pine, and roast/char earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/spice, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitter/spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/chalky, and sticky/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Very minimal pepper heat as well. Overall this is an outstanding spiced American stout style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa/spice, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Mikkeller Milk Stout 2.9
Bottle (330 ml) at home. Dark brown - almost black - with a medium beige head, good retention, leaving good lacing. Aroma is of roasted cereals, coffee, vanilla, a rather strong lactose sweetness presence, lots of ashes too, sweet chocolate and a bit of anise. Taste is sweet and ashy to the point of being cloying. It’s quite flavorful with coffee, vanilla, roasted malts, vegetal notes, chocolate and anise. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Lactic mouthfeel. Vegetal finish. Strong lingering ashtray presence that is really off-putting for me. Unbalanced. Cloying. I was only able to take a few sips... 3/4 of this bottle goes down the drain.

Not as potent as you would think with Hops flavor at the beginning but fades off really quickly into just like a normal subtle beer nothing really special doesn't have a higher alcohol content like some of the other brands but it does the last a just little bit but then it fades relatively quickly. Was hopping for more !! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mikkeller Nelson Sauvignon Riesling Grape Ed. 4.6
There’s a lot going on here. The aroma is very, very nice. Sweaty, fruity, hoppy, slight vinegar, slight funk. The beer itself is dark golden with a persistent head that betrays the sugar added to the malt bill. The taste is slightly brett-y, fruity with a strong Riesling flavour coming through, wood flavour and a smoothness on the palate from the barrel ageing. Very smooth and easy to drink, despite the hop bitterness and high strength. Alcohol is masked well. The hops have a lovely cheesey, cat urine taste/aroma to them (seriously). Lots of good flavours overall. There is just something very slightly unbalanced about it which would stop me from saying that this is perfect. I would very much like to try the non-Riesling edition.

Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel BA Slyrs 4
Bottle bought some place I can’t remember. Pours viscous pitch black with a small creamy dark mocha head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and roasty with roast malts, caramel, toffee, burnt toast, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, roasted paprika, moist soil and whisky alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and roasty. Mouthfeel is fat, soft, velvety, round, tiny astringent, tiny boozy and full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, peat, moist soil and whisky alcohol. Surprisingly good for a Scotch BA imperial stout. Yummy if a bit paprika heavy in the nose. Huge mouthfeel!

Mikkeller Kihoskh APA 3.4
33 cl bottle @home in stemmed glass@approx 6 degrees C. Present from Laura, Jack and James. Pours hazy light brown with large off white head with excpetional retention - actually stayed till I was done! Hoppy, citrussy aroma - especially grapefruit, but also with a touch of malt. Taste again citrussy, bitter, dominated by grapefruit and orange peel which also continues in the very long, dry aftertaste. Somewhat thin palate and medium carbonation. All in all pleasant if you have a day where you dig the bitter, citrussy American hops..
