3.1 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Slightly hazy, dull gold with a short, white head. Lemon/Wheat aroma... Taste is tart, tangerine/lemon...soft... A slight acidic bite. Nothing special, but it has a pleasant taste and feel. Tuesday, August 6, 2013

1.8 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Earthy grassy smell some peanut notes and an almost burnt malt scent. White head and flat orange body. some grassy hops and malty bitterness little metallic dust. Weak and dusty on the palate. A lot of metallic taste in the end. Thursday, August 1, 2013

2.2 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Aromas of salted peanuts, corn cereal, and a little hamster-cage-esque. Clear sunset gold with a mostly fading, off-white head. Dry and toasty. Light, clean, refreshing, but not much happening here. Thursday, August 1, 2013

2.7 Charleston East Bay IPA nothing special about this one. Bitterness not used to it’s advantage more of an afterthought. No bright flavors like I would want from an IPA. Just an average IPA IMO. Sunday, July 14, 2013

2.6 Charleston East Bay IPA 12 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Greenville, SC. Golden orange pour with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma of light floral hops, caramel, and toffee. From the aroma I was expecting a malt-forward IPA but rather this is just muted floral and grassy hops given very little in the way of bitterness. Light citrus on the finish. Meh. 3.2 Charleston East Bay IPA Pours a clear amber, with a thin white head. Aromas of the usual grass and pine notes but not very potent. Flavor is that of a rather tame IPA. It’s a Charleston brew though so I can’t say too much bad about it, but it’s just a run of the mill IPA. Monday, March 25, 2013

1.4 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Overall, aroma is great. Smells of hay and light hops, but taste leaves something to be desired. A bit sharp on the tongue, Friday, June 10, 2011

3.6 Charleston East Bay IPA Bottle label indicates this one is from Greenville SC, not Charleston. Perhaps contract brewed by Thomas Creek? Pours a clear copper gold with one finger head of nearly white head. Citrusy and piney hops dominate the nose, with some sweet malt also evident. The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a bit more sweet malt balance than a typical Amer. IPA. Medium body and moderately carbonated. Monday, April 4, 2011

2.7 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. The head was thick and white with good retention. Smelled of hay, subdued vanilla, and grassy hop. Light to medium bodied and dry with minimal bitterness. Pale malt, grassy hop, and delicate caramel flavors. Saturday, August 7, 2010

2.7 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Not terrible, but definitely unimpressive. Wheat and some light yeast. Very light. Some sweetness from the wheat. No spices or anything else. Watery finish. No body. Light pale lager aroma. Monday, April 12, 2010

2.2 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen I was in SC last week visiting my brother and figured i try a beer brewed by Charleston Brewing Company while i was there. I chose their Halfmoon Hefe Weizen. The beer poured clear and golden with a small light head with minimal retention. The beer smelled of fruit and banana. The taste was nothing exciting. Very light and very fruity. Not much of anything going on. I didn’t taste much of any hops or malt. Overall a very unimpressive Hefe Weizen. I would not ever drink this again. 60/100 Friday, February 19, 2010

3.4 Charleston East Bay IPA Bottle. Copper orange beer with a large pillowy head. Fairly strong aroma of grapes and a herbal spiciness. The initial sweet grain flavor leads to a piney bitterness. Feel like it has a lot in common with a Sierra Nevada IPA with some minor positives and negatives. Sunday, November 1, 2009

3.4 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Pours gold with a white head. Smells of perfume, some dry malt, peppery. Tastes peppery and sweet with an earthy undertone and some soapy hints on the finish. Sunday, November 1, 2009

3.1 Charleston East Bay IPA Pours a translucent copper gold with a one finger offwhite head. The nose is mildly citrusy, corn/malty sweetness, earthy. The flavor is mildly citrusy with a present citrus rind bitterness, some sweetness, corn, earthy. The palate is mildly carbonated. Monday, July 13, 2009

3.2 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Pours a bright hazy peach with a one finger offwhite head. The nose is sweet, some orange rind, a bit one dimensional in what it has, some yeast character. The flavor is sweet, orange rind, crisp, less yeast in the flavor, mild wheat, not super traditional tasting. Not bad just not standout, east to drink on. Monday, July 13, 2009

3.5 Charleston East Bay IPA Bottle pours clear yellow color with white head. Aroma is pine. Just straight pine. Medium light mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation. Flavor is more pine and finishes dry. This is a pretty good brew. Saturday, June 27, 2009

2.8 Charleston Lagerhead Lager From a 12 oz bottle it poured a cloudy orange with little head. Aroma of citrus, malt and some hops - taste was fairly sweet for a lager and not quite as skunky as some lagers come across. I actually didn’t mind this brew too much - it was actually better than I was expecting especially after seeing some of the ratings. I liked it better than their hefeweizen. 2.9 Charleston East Bay IPA Typical golden orange color with a small white head. Aroma hints at bitter hops but seems a little grainy. The flavor is aspirin bitterness with a touch of pine and a cheap graininess. Thursday, June 4, 2009

2.7 Charleston East Bay IPA In short: An unusual and off-putting IPA with boring malts and weird spicy hops. How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed soon after purchase (I think). Tasting session The look: Cloudy orange-blonde body topped by a small white head In long: A bland malt profile with boring dry cereals/hay. Some fruity notes with citrus fruits and an unexpected banana presence. Weird hops, burnt/smoked weed, spicy, floral. Hard to describe really. It was not bad but it was “off”. A beer that is sure help maintain South Carolina status as one of USA top 50 beer states. Sunday, May 17, 2009

3.1 Charleston East Bay IPA My Bottom Line: This very approachable India Pale Ale quenches with its prominent citrusy hop perfume, subtle honeyed malts and modest earthy bitterness. Further Personal Perceptions: -A veil of foam tops the hazy blonde. -Balanced is achieved throughout. -The mouthfeel is rather lean, and the carbonation quite smooth. -The aromatic hop character is also herbal and spicy. -Malts could offer more in terms of flavor. Bottle. Tuesday, May 12, 2009

2.9 Charleston East Bay IPA Bottle from thickfreakness. Thanks Charles! Smells old with faded gross malt and hops. Taste is of somewhat sharp herbal and earthy hops. Some tea notes, but not in the sweet, old IPA way that I usually get them in. Thin but crisp and sharp hop flavor. Decent. Friday, May 8, 2009

1.9 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Bottle from thickfreakness. Thanks Charles! Pours orange, clear and with a white head. Smell is fruity, almost chocolatey and malty. Taste is sweet and odd with rotten fruit and yeast with thin watery caramel sweetness. Thin body. Pretty gross, actually. Friday, May 8, 2009

3.1 Charleston East Bay IPA 12 oz bottle. Earthy and resin hop aroma. Clear orange amber with persistent small white head. Carmel with a touch of graininess with resin tea like hop flavor. Medium body and mouth feel. Medium finish with light residual bitterness. Thursday, May 7, 2009

2 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Pours a golden yellow - absolutely no head and no lacing what-so-ever. Aroma is slightly lemon - not much else. Taste is very weak lemon along with slight wheatiness. Not even close to one of the better Hefe Weizens I have had - usually a fan of this style - but this beer did not meet my expectations. 2.9 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Bottle from Gyle41386. Thanks man! Pours a yellowish orange color with a short lived fizzy white head. Smell is bubble gum, banana and a soft clove aroma. Taste is watery, slightly sweet and strongly wheaty. Standard wheat flavor with a thin yeast flavor and it finishes slightly sweet. Really, not offensive, but a bit watered down, and "cheap" tasting, somehow. A bit fizzy and medium to thin bodied. Friday, March 27, 2009

2.4 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Thanks to my brother Bob who had this in his fridge Super Bowl Sunday and not noticing I took it and placed it in my cooler. Poured an off golden color. Decent head and carbination to start with, but it faded to a few bubbles after a few minutes. Standard lager flavor. Tuesday, February 10, 2009

3.6 Charleston East Bay IPA Golden amber with a soft sparkle and creamy head. Herbal, woody aroma with some toasty notes. Woody, lightly toasty character. Nice balance. Light character but good refreshment. Monday, February 9, 2009

3.3 Charleston East Bay IPA Medium bodied and full flavored, just the right strength for this beer. Nice lightly sweet piney hop flavor with a bitter finish. Some bread and caramel malts in the background. Ultra drinkable, but not at all weak and watery. I am surprised it is rated so low. A little overcarbonated perhaps. Friday, February 6, 2009

3 Charleston East Bay IPA Clear orange-amber with small tan head. Fresh hop aroma is balanced by nice malty breadiness. Some apple skins too. Quaffable mouthfeel is a little prickly. Nice English hop character, I can imagine this shining on cask. Nothing spectacular, just a dry drinkable Brit-style IPA. Friday, February 6, 2009

2.3 Charleston East Bay IPA Light amber coloured body with a small soapy white head. Aroma of more malt than hops, some nuts and a bit of concord grapes. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavours up front leading into a bit of more hoppiness and a light sweetness that takes over. Aftertaste shows a lot of malt and leaves the palate a bit bittered by the hops, but not overly so. Overall, this beer is definitely more an APA than IPA, but it was still nice to try. Don’t expect too much, but try it if you can get it! I sampled this 12 ounce bottle at the Brickskeller in Washington D.C. on 29 December 2006. Saturday, January 17, 2009

2.2 Charleston Lagerhead Lager Slightly copper tinted golden/orange coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of lemons, wheat, malt, corn and some apples. Light-bodied; Sharp taste of metal and malt up front with a short mild taste of some hops, coupled with a slight fruity taste. Aftertaste shows more bitter metal, some malt and basically just a light cardboardy taste. Overall, a pretty bad beer, not much flavour at all, and the flavour that does come up isn’t worth talking about. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 05-November-2006. Saturday, January 17, 2009

2.8 Charleston East Bay IPA Bottle with Butters at First Cellar Reduction. Poured a cream color head with an over abundance of carbonation. Fruity nose. Flavor is mildly acidic and sour. I enjoyed the flavor and nose but the over carbonation ruined it for me. Wednesday, January 7, 2009

2.6 Charleston East Bay IPA Clear golden yellow pour with big white head. Perfumy and floral hop nose. Flavor is nicely floral hop with some crystal malt to balance but not very well. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sunday, December 28, 2008

2 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Bottle, pours a urine haze yellow with thin to no head. Aroma is sweet spice banana/rotten fruit. 2.4 Charleston Lagerhead Lager LIghtly hazed golden color with a taller light taupe head. Hints of corn, grain, and dry floral hops. Light sweet grain start. Bitterness breaks in suddenly with dry citric zest and wood. A touch of nuttiness in the finish and linger. More biting, than crisp. Not as clean as I would like a lager to be. Sunday, October 19, 2008

2.5 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen 12 oz. Mostly clear, golden with a large head that settles to a lasting ring and leaves some crunchy lace. Sourish yeast and honey aromas. Flavor of honey, wheat, bubblegum and dry grass, with some light lemon. Light body is dryish and slightly watery. Drinkable, but not really much of a hefe. Thursday, October 16, 2008

2 Charleston Half Moon Hefe Weizen Bottle. Commercial description states that this "is an unfiltered beer, naturally cloudy from wheat proteins." So, why is this so clear when I pour it into the snifter? What is the deal? Where is the yeast? This looks remarkably like apple juice. I take a sniff. oh boy. Not too great. I don’t get much of the qualities I associate with this style. It’s metallic, soapy, and tart with a dash of sour fruits and faint wheat. I was hesitant to take a sip of this one. But, after I cautiously supped a bit of this beverage I was relieved to find it was a notch better than the aroma had warned me. It seems cleaner with some discernable citrus and far off, extra weak cloves. The finish is tart. I was really hoping for more from this beer. The other two Charleston offerings are at lesat mediocre, this one is barely drinkable. I’m pouring my glass out into a plastic container and making marinade with it. Sunday, September 7, 2008

2.4 Charleston Lagerhead Lager 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a massive linen white head that lasted through most of the glass. Very weak aroma of malt and some even weaker pine notes. The flavor is malt and corn cereal with some mild hops bitterness at the finish. Way overcarbonated. Thankfully I only brought home one bottle, because this is not something I would drink again. 3.2 Charleston East Bay IPA Medium sized offwhite head, good retention and some scattered lace. Lightly hazy, copper hued ale. Nose is decent with a light spiceyness, light citrus and pine. Body is medium, lightly oily with a soft carbonation. Lightly sweet malts up front with a gentle hop backing, lightly fruity, citrus and some grassiness. Dry, lightly fruity finish. The best beer i had down south, limited hunting time also. Tuesday, September 2, 2008
