BillWyce	2.7 Iron Hill Watermelon Gose I think this is in the right place, Brewer's Box exclusive can, Batch 003-02, called "Watermelon Salad Contemporary-Style Gose" Pours hazy straw gold with a 3-finger white head. Mild aroma of watermelon with a touch of the stereotypical saltiness. Body is light and kind of watery. Long, mild finish. The flavor is mostly entirely of salt. While the other adjuncts (watermelon and cucumber) have mild flavors anyway, they seem to be overpowered here. They begin to show a bit as it warms, particularly the sweetness of the watermelon, but the salt remains dominant. Monday, April 1, 2024

Goodgrief	3.8 Iron Hill Russian Imperial Stout On tap Wilmington. Dark pour, smallish head. Lots of coffee on the nose. Coffee, cocoa and a lot of pine. This is pretty much the same as the Russian Imperial Stout…maybe a little more roast, a little less sweet. Hides the booze well. Earlier Rating: 8/11/2007 Total Score: 4 May 2005 - I wasn’t as thrilled with this as the other few reviews. Poured dark, dark brown (just about black) with a small head that dissipated quickly and some lacing. Maybe it was my allergies, but I didn’t smell much or taste the subleties listed in other reviews. Taste was dark roasted malt and a strong alcohol taste that wasn’t all that well masked. Bitter/sour...I dunno, I just wasn’t crazy about it...worth a try once, but probably won’t go back to it again. Update Jan. 2009 - Roasty and silky smooth with notes of chocolate. Not wow’ing or overly complex, but still pretty good. Update Dec 2010 - Media location sample. Lots of coffee roast with huge sweetness with quite a bit of pine bitterness. Too sweet. A ton of flavor, but chaotic and not blending all that well. Just too sweet. Update Mar 2011 - Bottle at West Chester location. Huge beer. Tons of sweetness and roast. Okay, yes, a little chaotic, but on this occasion, it hit me more favorably. Bitter...the only imperial stout I could compare it to on hop level is Storm King, although this one tends a bit more towards the citrusy end. Bumped from 3.8 to 4.0. Friday, May 20, 2022

Smell: Simple barley with a firm edge of graininess about it. Minute citrus backs a bit more robust pine and spiciness. Taste: Crisp barley, lightly toasted grains and a wee hint of rock candy sweetness. A little fruitiness, pine and spice from the hops and a fair amount of cleansing bitterness. Aroma is roasty, with a mild coffee note and maybe some grain. Full-bodied with a mild oily thickness. The finish is long and dry, with a mild boozy astringency. Smell: Fruity, floral, tropical nose of citrus, pineapple and a little guava soothed with some suble raw grain hints. Taste: Modestly malty, like an easy-going, restrained pils given a little cushioning of wheat and oats, though not so much to really get things gloopy or particularly hazy. Citrusy tangerine and lime with some little additions of fruit juices. Medium bitterness. Pleasant acidity. Closes out citrusy, smooth. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
