Iron Hill Russian Imperial Stout 4.1
16oz can via trade extra. Pours a black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate milkshake and some coffee. Taste is malt bitter, low hop presence. Flavors of chocolate candy bar (AZ style sweet/dry stout), light coffee. Good and thick like my black dildo. Alcohol kept in check. This beer is pretty good.

Iron Hill Charlie Pumpkin Brown 3.8
Arrived at the table a clear deep orange with a very thin white head that lasted through the first sip and left scant lace. Very pleasant aroma of pumpkin, malt and the requisite pumpkin pie spices. The flavor is exactly the same as the aroma. Very mild bitterness at the finish and somewhat smooth on the palate. Medium bodied.

Iron Hill Russian Imperial Stout 4.1
Pours pitch black and nearly opaque with only faint mahogany edges and a two finger frothy beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention for the style and ABV taking a while to settle and leaving streaks of soapy lacing in its path. Deeply roasted robust dark malt aroma with hints of gourmet coffee bean, burnt sugar, toast and dark chocolate countered by lighter malt sweetness. Hints of caramel, toffee, silky dessert-like chocolate, licorice and dark fruit. Chewy and viscous full with robust dark malt flavor that’s perfectly balanced by sweeter dark malt notes. Very nice roast with tasting burnt or acrid. Gourmet coffee bean flavor along with, burnt toast bittersweet dark chocolate, oatmeal and liquid smoke. This is countered by slight lactic creaminess, sweet chocolate, licorice and hazelnut. Very smooth and easy drinking considering the complexity and high ABV. One of Iron Hill’s best beers.

Bottle @ Deans Sticky Bomb Shelter Tasting, thnx to the crew for sharing! Pours a pitch black beer with a very small tanned head on top. Aroma of herbal stuff, pruney, some chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is weird, a bit soapy, roasty, loads of sweet molasses in there. Slightly burnt aftertase. Weird, but fun.

Thanks to kermis! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ “Dean’s sticky Bomb Shelter” Tasting. Black, small mocha head only on the sides. Nose is herbal, molasses, syrup, licorices. Taste is molasses, licorice, syrup, herbal, molasses, light roast. Thick molasses body. Very UK-style, classical. Nothing spectacular but very substantial & nice to drink. Good stuff.

Iron Hill Mo-Rye-Ah IPA 3.7
My favorite from a recent visit. Named for the assistant brewer, Moriah. Very nice amber color with a white head. Sweet malt in the aroma with some spice and citrus. The flavor is very nice with the malt up front and the hops coming in the back. Very smooth a silky from the rye. Nice dry finish. Well done.

Iron Hill Revolution Ale 3.4
I would consider this more of an Irish Red ale. Pours reddish amber with an off white head. Lots of caramel and sweet malt a a bit of nuts in the aroma. The flavor is more caramel with a subdued hop presence. Nice dry finish

Iron Hill Wilmington Old School IPA 3.7

Iron Hill Mo-Rye-Ah IPA 3.7
Tap at Voorhees, namesake for the new brewer! Tawny clear amber-brown with lacing beige head. Watery light body with interesting candy-fruity new hops, no rye ‘spice’ but that dull, bitter rye gummy character is featured very well on the low end. Juicy and satisfying with some interesting toffee and honey-treacle notes. Malty medium body, clear, crisp and a touch minerally. Medium bitterness, low sweetness persists. The best of the flight - worth the look!

Iron Hill Revolution Ale 3.3
Tap at Voorhees. Clear tawny amber. A dark red, light chestnut, a short beige head that laces. Very nutty nose carries through into the body, light wood, medium-strong sweetness and a little bitter. Malty medium-full body minerally and swishable, touch soapy, candyish fruit. Like the individual elements, don’t like how they clash with each other.

Iron Hill Mr. Miyagi Pils 3
Sample at Iron Hill, pours clearish golden with small medium white head. Notes of vanilla, grass, lemon, chalk, marshmallow and malt. Flavor is not too pilsnery, it’s belgian blonde or golden ale like with some dry ashy hopping. Body is medium.

Iron Hill Russian Imperial Stout 3.7
APPEARANCE - total black out in my glass. Beigh colored head that sticks around and great lacing. NOSE - light scents, but not overly interesting. FLAVOR - stout at the front, strong hop bitterness at the end. Not substantially roasty or deep flavors.

Iron Hill Bumblebee Hefe 3.4
Draft at Phoenixville event. Hazy gold pour with white head. Nose is wheaty malt, honey, white pepper. Tastes like a hefe with honey, orange zest, and white peppery notes. Smooth finish.

Iron Hill Citra IPA 4.2
On tap at Iron Hill Vorhees.
Appearance: Mildly hazy golden body with a creamy off-white head.

Taste: Juicy cantaloupe, peach and mango with bitter orange and grapefruit finish. Clean mildly malty with moderate bitterness and a clean finish.
Palate: Medium bodied, moderate to highly carbonated.
Overall: Whoa, what a killer IPA that would hold its own against any IPA out there. Well done guys.

Cocoa in the aroma, a bit of alcohol venting. Near black color, opaque, large tan-colored head. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee; deep, rich maltiness, tobacco, fine alcohol syrup in the finish with a good dose of resin/pine hops and moderate bitterness. Medium full, smooth and slick texture. Very good hoppy Imperial Stout. Wish there was more to the aroma though.

Iron Hill Quadrupel (Quadfather) 3.8
Draft at maple shade. Pours out a cloudy darker amber color with a small white head. Aroma is of dark plums, dried fruits, caramelized sugar, and not much of a tell of the Abv. Taste is complex, lots of plum, caramel, raisin, fig, date, Sweet toffee, and some drying alcohol notes with a full body that could be pretty dangerous.

Iron Hill Kreik de Hill 3.7
Sample at a bottle share, post Jackie-O’s 9th Anniversary. Hazy dark red orange color, with minimal head. Raspberry aroma in the nose, kind of mild, but in the flavor... Wow, big sour tannic taste, definite cream aroma, and raspberry. Medium-plus body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Mild vinegar aspect to it. Really tasty, enjoyable, sour raspberry stuff, despite being on the verge of too far on the vinegar side. Fun stuff to try.

Iron Hill Charlie Pumpkin Brown 3.9
Pours dark brown with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma is like a cross between a pumpkin pie and a ginger snap. F follows suit...leans a bit more towards ginger but spice is restrained and plays well with roasty malts. Mouthfeel is light / medium and the finish is roasty and dry lingering to pumpkin pie. Very nice.
Thursday, November 20, 2014
