Second Street Boneshaker
Gluten free beer. The advertised amber with a frothy, white head. Old shoe aroma, orange peel. Taste is mildly bitter and mildly tart. The borderline vinegar aroma at the finish leaves me predisposed to thinking this one has begun to go off, despite a canned date less than 6 months old. There’s enough orange peel and caramel to keep me drinking though. :) Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Mixed bag.

Gold with a frothy, white head of modest duration. Mild, grainy aroma with touches of lime and butter. Taste is moderate bitter the whole way through. Body to the light side, but not watery, moderate carbonation. Crisp, simple, so inoffensive it lacks character.

Second Street Breaking Plaid
Brown with a frothy head of moderate duration. Toffee aroma, earthy, with something like orange peel on top. Taste is sweetish with an odd tang at the finish. Is that supposed to be there, evidence of the “west coast style scotch ale”? At medium, the body stays fairly light for its potentcy. Mild carbonation. No sign of the alcohol. After initial doubts, this became pleasant.

Second Street 2920 IPA
Golden colour with an off-white, open textured head. Very fruity with flavours.of brandy and oak. Rich notes of bitter marmalade and grapefruit pith. Good mouthfeel - note that the ABV is 7.2%, so not a beer to be trifled with. A strongly flavoured, powerful IPA.

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Almost clear gold beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Thinnish malts, a light creamy sweetness getting slightly milky. Reasonably bright citrus. Light dry pine. Some hop spice on the fairly dry finish. Not bad.

Second Street Barleywine 2021 - West Coast Style
Deep amber with a frothy, white head that lingers. Quite fruity aroma for a barley wine .. presumably the „west coast style“. A mix of tropical fruits, apples, and caramel. Taste is mildly sweet up front, full of licorice and brown sugar. Finishes with nectarines and peppermint, but also a bit of booze. Full-bodied, mild carbonation. Warming at the end. Nice.

Second Street The Lion Imperial Stout
This 16 oz can was purchased at the Santa Fe Total Wine back in the heat of the summer. So now on the coldest evening so far of the season I am ready to have a sampling. Once again I can say Second Street is great with the graphics, a fine label. And the bottom of the can says Danger Kitty along with 03/22/22, enough said. I think a snifter is in order, my Buffalo Bayou glass will suffice. The pour is unequivocally black with a steadfast top of light brown foam. I lift the glass to smell a strong amount of chocolate, vanilla and wheat bread. As good as the scent is, well, the taste is better. Dark chocolate, strawberries, vanilla, a bit of coffee roastiness, chocolate malt, some caramel, grain and earth. Unexpectedly good. Between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, the breweries in New Mexico turn out some surprising beers.

At Total Wine in Santa Fe I was able to purchase this 12 oz can fairly recently. Stamped on the bottom is a pkg date of 5/30/22. I'm using my New Belgium tulip glass to catch this pour, a fairly clear, medium yellow body followed up by a slowly descending head of fully white foam. Though not exactly a big fan of IPAs, this beer has a nice scent of yellow fruit, grass, some pininess, and meadow. The drink is even better, I am a bit surprised. Tropical fruit, peaches, white bread, malt and a substantial hops presence, nice in this day and time. Noticeably bitter and a bit dry. Good.

Gold with a frothy, white head. Subdued cardboard and caramel aroma with a hint of fruitiness. Taste is bitter, herbal, with a bit of resin. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, good chewiness. Pretty good except for the underwhelming aroma, which probably didn’t get any better with 5 months in the cellar.

Can thanks to Drake! I should have had these two barleywines back to back, but this got buried in the back of the fridge. Lovely amber with a hint of haze and half an inch of beige head. Caramel, raisin, light pine, orange rind nose. Oh now that's nice. Raisin, caramel, pine, orange peel, peach-ish, hint of ass-end spice. Nice work.
