Blue Dog Blue Collar Mead
750ml bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 45°. Color is a light clear gold with no carbonation or head. Aroma has an odd melted plastic thing going on with a hint of sweet corn in the back. It has a medium body that goes down with a rich feel. Flavor is a little honey with a faint spice note but unfortunately the plastic from the aroma shows in a big bad way. Aftertaste is sweet and as the plastic fades the honey seems to come out a little more. Overall I think this bottle may have gone bad and it's just not that good. But as I drink it and acclimate to it, I get a little more honey and it's not that bad. Still not good but not bad.

12oz can (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 48°. Color is a light gold with bubbly carbonation and just a ring for a head. Aroma is a mild apple scent with just a hint of honey. It has a very light body giving a crisp mouth feel. Flavor light and refreshing with apple and honey showing and a mellow sweetness. In the after taste a bit of vanilla comes across ending clean. Overall this is pretty good, their deScription is spot on and much better then I was excepting after having the Yellow Collar.

Can split at ChrisO tasting, London. It pours a clear golden color with almost no head to speak of. Aroma is sweet, with baked apples, light veggies, caramel and burnt sugar. Taste has more sugary fusels, apples, brown sugar syrup. Medium and sticky body with no carbonation. Overall, messy

12oz can (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Snifter at 40°. Light golden color with light fizzy carbonation and a soda style head. Aroma is just bad and I mean BAD, its something like a combination of burnt honey and new car tiers. It has a light crisp body. The flavor, oh dear god this is the worst part, it’s like the aroma with old moldy flowers. Then the after taste is just more burnt rubber. Overall this may be the worst thing I have ever put in my mouth. My wife just came in said it smells like the used water in a carpet cleaner and tasted like cat pee. Looking at other reviews I think crossovert nailed it.

This looks okay. This starts out okay in that it isn’t too sweet and has some fruitiness. Unfortunately, by the end of this, it starts to get a heavy feeling, which is weird and shocking for a drink of so low alcohol. Not that good.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s mid-week lasting 03/07/14. Sparking mead in a can, well i never. Thanks to Craig for this one i think. Green petrol coloured pour with a no head and some big bubbles. Aroma is honey, sweet, musty and a hint of lemon zing. Some staling. Flavour is thin, honey, sugary. No depth to the flavour. Palate is thin, watery, lightly carbonation.

Can. Clear yellow. Quite fizzy. Well this is interesting. Is it a mead with hops, or is it a beer with honey? This would be refreshing on a float trip. Clever, and probably pulled off as well as they could for such a hard task of hopping mead.

Can at Chriso going Dutch tasting, 03/07/14. Clear washed out yellow, not far of translucent with moderate off white spotting. Nose is light floral, parma violets, piss stained. Taste comprises sweet sugary things, light citric, honey wash, more piss, Germaline. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet and floral curtain call. I’m no mead man but this is pretty medi-fukcing-ocre, sweet mess!

This is kind of interesting stuff. It is a light, carbonated mead that seems to be being marketed as a gluten-free beer alternative. It is not anything spectacular but I suppose it serves it’s purpose reasonably well. It is clear w/ a slight ring of head. It’s nose is of red apples w/ a light floral note. It is a bit honey sweet and there is a good amount of vanilla that comes out when you taste it. It is actually better than I expected but that is a different thing than being good.

Can: Garbage disposal smell, but honey is also present. Clear pale yellow, sparkling. Dry, fusel alcohol, chemical flavor. Again, honey is present, but it isn’t obvious. Canned mead, I thought this might be a good idea, but man, I didn’t like this one bit. The Michelob Ultra of mead.

12 oz. can shared by caterwaul - thanks again, Alden! Pours a clear white wine color with no head. Aroma of rubber, honey, apple, grape, vanilla, and florals. The flavor is cleaner and simpler, keeping it to apple, vanilla, and honey. Light-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth, vinous mouthfeel. I don’t believe I’ve had a canned mead before this. Interesting.

12oz can, thanks to caterwaul for sharing. Clear kind of pale yellow color. No head or lace. Nice vanilla in the nose. It’s the dominant flavor here. Then some apple and honey. Moderate sweet taste. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Kind of a lightly creamy texture. More dry finish. Pretty refreshing and easy drinking, just not much to it (aside from vanilla + honey/apple). Very solid for what it is, though, and $8 for a 4pk is an awesome price.

This a very different Mead with a lot of floral flavors going on with strong apple flavor and only a tiny honey flavor. My only complaint about this drink is that it really doesn’t taste like Mead (and thus poorly named) which can be very confusing when you take your first sip.
