Buxtehuder Pilsener
Probably I’ll never drink it again. From the remembering: deep golden a bit cloudy. Malt, spice & citrus in aroma. medium body/ light bitter & light sour taste. Came somewhat weird to me in those days. Now I know, it was just very special.

Buxtehuder Maibock
On tap at the fourth „Bier aus dem Norden“ brewery presentation in Hamburg. Light yeasty smell, a little bit of soap. Creamy-foamy white head and a cloudy yellow body. Light sweet taste, later on it gets a little bit more bitter, quite long duration. Dry texture, creamy body with a lively carbonation. The beer is very creamy for a Maibock!

Buxtehuder Maibock
Draught at the brewpub. Hoppy, slightly sour aroma. Hazy copper colour. Nice, stable chalky white head. The flavour is slightly sweet with a little hops and a moldy touch which I find common in Maiböcker. The bitterness gets a little harsh, which is also OK for style. Creamy mouthfeel.

Draught at the brewpub. Aroma has a little diacetyl. Cloudy orange/brown colour. The flavour is acidic and with diacetyl. I guess it happens to balance, but that does not seem intentional.

Buxtehuder Weihnachtsbock
Draught at the brewpub. Sweet aroma with a little diacetyl. Nice, very dark brown colour. Stable, creamy light brown head. The flavour has quite a lot of roasted malts and is quite sweet. It has a lactic sourness to it, but it does not really hurt the impression. The aftertaste gives a burning sensation as if from real pepper. I had it in January, so perhaps a small infection was setting in. An interesting beer.

Buxtehuder Dunkel
(Hand-bottled by Yogi_Beera - thanks!) At least the beginning is good: this looks exactly the same as the magnificent Hollolan Hirvi Kivisahti; cloudy dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty and yeasty, fruity and sour - as in all beers I got from this Brewhouse. Lightly toasted malt notes in flavor with some dry berries. Sour with dryish finish with some smoke notes. Watery. After the journey to Finland this is definitely not what it should be. Not really an enjoyable experience, got to admit.

Buxtehuder Hefeweizen
(Hand-bottled by Yogi_Beera – thanks Nat!) Cloudy, pale yellow with no head. A hefeweizen with no head, hmm... Yeasty, quite sour and atypical aroma for hefeweizen. Sour, fruity, taste with a peppery and dry finish. Extremely refreshing, solid summerbrew with that farmhouse feeling I liked in their "Helles". A link between hefeweizen and gueuze (!) and really not your typical hefeweizen. My only problem is that I don’t know how this really is, fresh at the brewhouse. But after all, do you have to have a name or label for a beer to enjoy it? I don’t think so.

Buxtehuder Pilsener
(Hand bottled at the brewhouse by the great Yogi_Beera – thanks Nat!) Hazy, beautiful yellow pour with no head whatsoever. Down to earth, raw citrusy & sour aroma with maybe some flowery hops in it - but just maybe. Flavor is fruity/citric and above all - sour. Finish is dry & bitter. This has obviously degraded during the trip to Finland and I think it’s not what it should be. Nevertheless there’s a certain wonderful Farmhouse-feeling in this beer I like. Refreshing and very drinkable.

Fresh grassy, lager nose - rough and raw already. Hazy gold color, foamy head. Creamy malt, a hint of berry fruits even. Broad dull bitter across the mouth. Gritty feel. Like a Kellerbier really. Like the freshness of this right from tap at the brewery.

(refilled bottle) Hazy pale golden colour with a small white foam. Moderately sweet malty nose with a fruity (honey) note and aromatic hops in the background. Bitter and slightly sour-fruity flavour, light body, medium carbonation, soft mouthfeel. Slightly sweet malty taste with hops and a distinctive yeasty citric fruitiness; medium dry, slightly bitter and fruity finish with a floral hoppy note. Quite tasty and refreshing fruity Zwickel-Pils. Thanks a lot to Yogi_Beera and pivo for this hard to get gem !

Buxtehuder Dunkel
(bottle, refilled from a growler by Yogi_Beera and pivo – many thanks!) Hazy murky amber colour with a small foamy layer. Slightly sweet malty aroma with toffee and a light sourish fruity touch of red berries and lemon. Slightly sweet flavour, light body, low carbonation (probably due to the refilling). Light-sweet, slightly toasted malty taste with toffee and a fruity touch; very mild, almost watery but not unpleasant mouthfeel; dry and slightly tart and fruity finish.

Buxtehuder Hefeweizen
(bottle, refilled from a growler by Yogi_Beera and pivo – many thanks!) Cloudy and hazy yellow coloured hue with a short foamy white layer. Very yeasty and fruity (citrus, banana) aroma, slightly sweet wheat-malty and shy notes of spices in the background. Sour and slightly sweet flavour, light bodied, medium carbonation, smooth mouthfeel. Very fruit-accented yeasty taste with citrus, green apples and only dense notes of banana, slightly lactic and tart finish. Very refreshing example of a Hefeweizen, that reminds me a bit of a Berliner Weisse.
