Taste is semi-sweet. Moderate bitterness. Fairly pithy and drying. Grassy. Foamy carbonation. Bit thin in body. Juicy, fairly dry finish. Could do with more volume.

Renaissance Abundance Baltic Cherry Porter
When you’re doing a clinical trial for a prostate device in New Zealand, some days urine luck and other days urine trouble. At least there are always quality ticks to keep spirits high. This beer pours from a 500ml bottle darkest brown with a small persistent tan head. The aroma is black cherry, roast, charcoal, anise, and rich dark chocolate. The flavor is quite dry and ashy with cocoa bitterness but also has a touch of dried cherry sweetness. Medium bodied, incredibly sharp yet smooth on the ffeel. Doesn’t make sense, but it works. Dey done did it again. Damn.

Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale
Bottle. Clear dark chestnut color with a lasting khaki head. Aroma is nice and rich, with pear smoke, ham sandwich, toffee, vanilla, and chocolate. The flavor is dry and smoky, only mild caramel and toffee sweetness. Surprisingly drinkable considering, with a good active carb level. Really interesting and tasty.

Renaissance Enlightenment Series Boom!
Taster from growler station in Glengarry Wines Victoria Park. Aroma is fairly mild, with some caramel, biscuit and a little bitterness. Flavour is huge though, and really sweet. Massive amounts of toffee, honey and syrupy melon. Really nice, though not at all balanced. I guess with a name like "Boom!" they’re probably not too bothered about that.

Nice clear golden, foam is nice but disappears quickly. Aroma is soft, malt biscuits and some sour notes. Herbal hops. Taste reveals quite hopped up pilsner, feels more like a hoppy pale ale actually. Drinks easy and is quite refreshing.

Big offwhite head. Clear amber body. Sugary tropical fruit aroma with spicy gooseberry notes. Sweetish raisiny apricot taste with wooden spicy notes. Full-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish resiny caramelly aftertaste with rye bread and fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, full of flavour, and hides the alcohol well. (0.33l bottle, from ... uh ... not sure.)

Vastly overrated and quite disappointing. This was a bland and bitter beer with no individually identifiable hop aromas and the taste went straight to a bitter throat-clearing aftertaste

Renaissance Elemental Porter
Black pour with a thin foamy light tan cap. Wonderful earthy and semisweet cocoa on the nose with light roast and light caramel. Full and roasty flavor that’s a slight bit of cocoa and light coffee, especially on the finish. It’s a slight bit metallic on the finish but has a lovely cocoa and roast body.

Renaissance Enlightenment Series Boom!
On tap at Saraveza for the 7th IIPA Fest, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is very malty and sweet, with lots of resinous hops, followed by tons of caramel and cardboardy bready notes. Flavour tastes old, with lots of cardboardy bready malt and subdued resinous hops. Seems like this is an older keg. It’s decent but not optimal. Rating reflects enjoyment, as it wasn’t my fault I got an old keg pour.

Renaissance Clipper India Session Ale
Superficial festival rating from Duggfrisk 2016: Rather clear golden body with a small, foamy off-white head. Medium strong aroma of citric fruit, some tropical fruit and ripe apricot, mild caramel malt. Flavor is light malty with lots of refreshing fruit. Moderate bitterness. Feels quite OK for a 3,7% ABV. Nothing revolutionary, just a decent session beer with fruity hop flavor.

Nera con una sottile schiuma che sparisce subito. Aroma intenso di caffè, malto tostato e cioccolato. Anche al palato tostatura, caffè e malto si fondono, con una sottile nota di ciliegia e dark fruits. Decisa e dolce, carbonazione media. Una buona Porter.

Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale
Poured from a pint bottle. Pours a deep brownish red toffee colour. Aroma is big on malts but isn’t overpowering. Toffee, toast, caramel, scotch, wood. Taste is big sweet right from the start that carries through the middle with light unami joining in the middle and a medium bitter finish. A light alcohol kick comes with the bitter. Palate is a bit light for a scotch ale and not as oily as I usually enjoy. Carbonation is medium and pleasant. A decent well made and balanced drop, well suited to those starting out in the world of scotch ales and other stronger beers; but not enough kick or booze for my taste in that world.

Pours light amber, bitt of foam. Aroma is softly hoppy, malt base is clear in the background, providing also some sweetness. Taste is also mildly hoppy, not really a hop bomb but has still some tingle going on. Malt caramel is abundant, and finish has some more dry hop bitterness lingering for a while. Better than I expected from a cheap COSTCO beer actually.

Very hazy dark amber beer, good cream colour head. Palate is airy and has a minerally crisp bite. Tangy thin malts, touches of cream and caramel. Ripe fruits. A little hop spice and floral bitterness. Light finish. Wow! What a disappointment. Where are the big juicy NZ hops? Why is this beer so dark? Lame.
