Golden King Premium Beer 2.1
Pale golden with a smallish head. Malty aroma with a hint of floral notes. Taste is mild, malty and rather watery. A simple brew but a decent thirst quencher. (330ml can from a 7Eleven store in Hong Kong)

Can in Hongkong. Smooth and watery, hints of sweetish malt, fresh, but not too deep. No bitterness, water, malty sweetness...

Golden King Premium Beer 2.1

330 ml can bought at Market Place by Jason’s in K11, Tsim Sha Tsui. The can stated “Product of Vietnam” by an unknown brewer and distributed in Hong Kong by Asian Food Industries.

Piss pale golden yellow colour; One quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Minimal lacing with very slight carbonation; Slightly pungent smell of malt, with strong rice, corn, syrup, light bread, and very light grass; Close to light sweet taste of light malt, with strong rice, light corn, soggy bread, light lemon and faint grass; Mid to light body, slightly thick palate; Mouth feel is slightly thick body, malt is moderately light, rice is strong, raw and slightly chalky, and light corn can be felt. Moderately bready, no other off tastes is detected. So so… Hoppiness is light grass nose, notable lemon and thin grass taste. Faint bitterness for slightly sweet and thick finish; Wet after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: As an Asian macro, this is close to decent. Other than strong rice nose and taste, it has okay maltyness, just enough hops, and relatively free of cardboard, bad booze and stuff like that. Drinkable as well as forgettable, a right one for South East Asian summer.

Golden King Premium Beer 3
Pours a light straw gold in the glass. Watery flavor. Aroma is very floral and fragrant; strong notes of jasmine! This is seriously the first beer that I’ve had where the aroma is that of a beautiful perfection. Almost zen like... I could see the jasmine flowers falling to the ground around me as I reached a nirvana like stage of consciousness when smelling this beer. Thanks to BarZigKin for sharing!

Golden King Premium Beer 2.1
Medium white coarseish head. Clear golden body with light carbonation. I think I can detect an aroma of something vaguely maize-like. Maybe. Dry, and somewhat sweet, grainy wet straw taste with dusty mealy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy, coarseish mouthfeel. Dryish mealy grainy papery aftertaste with grassy cardboard notes. Not really very nice. (0.33l can, Wellcome, Lohas Park, Hong Kong.)

golden our like king for sure. Thick white head. Dense and aromatic of cleaners. Weak, watery malt and hop aroma and flavor. An awesome product of mass production.

Golden King Premium Beer 1
(can) from a store in Hong Kong, can states "Product of Vietnam"; clear pale yellow with tall white head, aroma starts floral, very simple flavour with light bitter metallic finish, pretty nasty overall and gets worse every minute after you open the can

Canned@omhper. Pale yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is bready, grainy and quite salty. Flavour is quite much the same along with some certain fruityness as well. Gets more horrid and buttery rubbered when it warms up.

Golden King Premium Beer 0.9
Light clear golden with high carbonation white head that quickly disappears. Plastic and cereal aroma. Sweet malt, citrus, corn...unappealing flavour. Light body and watery. Not good.

Golden King Premium Beer 1.6
Can. Gold and clear with no head, some bubbles. Smells like dirty socks, is sour, malodorous, and sulfuric. Medium carbonation and a thin palate. Sweet-sour flavor profile lingers and is not very good.

Golden King Premium Beer 1.7
Golden colour. No head. Maybe, just maybe, a shade of hop in the non-aroma. Somewhat malty with a hint of hop on the palate. Fair bit of sulphur emerges as it warms. Still, for forty cents it’s not so bad.

Golden King Premium Beer 1.3
Has almost no head and the colour is boring yellow, with some slight carbonation. Aroma is of dirty armpits. Flavour is an okay mix of grains and syrup, some sweetness and fruitiness. Rather boring.

Golden King Premium Beer 1
Canned (if i’m not mistaken). Aroma has cardboard, to put it nicely... Actually it smells more like the stuff coming from the narrow spaces where the sun never shines. okay some grainy (rice?) notes present. Pale yellow coloured beer with not much of a head. The taste is watery and metallic. Quality branding offcourse: ’Made in Taiwan’.

Just cracking the can open now - a perfect reminder to the AMAZING beer available in Hong Kong - which I’ll surely try more of when I return in a few months...Super pale golden coloured body with a sopay white head that actually looks nice - no joke there. The colour isn’t horrible, but it’s not amazing either. Aroma of funky malt, cardboard, lemons and a hind of hops - not horrible here either. Super-light-bodied; Lemony and effervescent malty flavour with some mild cardboard and subtle rice in the mix. Aftertaste is clean and not harsh at all - no alcohol detected and nothing aside from water. Overall, not a good beer, but to be honest - nothing offensive at all. Some mild malt, a touch of lemons and a watery flavour will actually not do bad things in the summers in Hong Kong! I sampled this 330 mL can purchased at a 7-11 on Nathan Road, in Kowloon, Hong Kong, China on 29-July-2006, sampled at home in Washington on 19-April-2009.

Golden King Premium Beer 0.6
Can. Pours the same metallic golden color as the can. Tastes industrial, adjunct-laden. A little bit sweet and some vegetable flavors, as well. Taiwan doing its best imitation of an American macro.

Golden King Premium Beer 0.8
Can from a 7-11 in Singapore when I was there back in February (I just found some old tasting notes in a travel guide-- what luck!). This was abysmal according to my notes. Pale yellow with a bunch of large floaties-- clearly not normal. I’ve written "cidery and sour" as the flavour deScription. Truly forgettable.

Golden King Premium Beer 1.2
In the absence of a great beer to bring up a milestone, a new country will have to do. This cheap and cheerful Asian lager is so bland and BMC-like that it could be Bud in Chinese slippers and a Fu Manchu moustache. Rice features prominently on the list of ingredients and there is barely a hint of hop or malt in the aroma or taste. It’s quenching and inoffensive but that’s about it. Cold filtered and pasteurised, it’s the pale washed-out colour that I have come to think of as "Asian lager gold". The off-putting aroma has rice starch, metal cookpot and cardboard. Fizzy sodawater carbonation that only lets up in the swallow. Flavours are hard to pick - residual sugars, cheap malts and a faint late bitterness. Low on flavour, low on bitterness. Fine for quenching a thirst but that’s it. (330ml can from a Singapore supermarket. Best before 5/12/06)

Golden King Premium Beer 2
(Can 33 cl) Pours a clear, pilsener golden with a tiny head. Aroma of brewing cereal. Medium-bodied and sweetish malty with accents of brewing cereal. Pretty much no hops. A very standard - but indeed drinkable - Pale Lager. 290806

Golden King Premium Beer 1.2
A light yellow beer with a fast dying white head. The aroma is sour with notes of brewing cereal - rice? The flavor is only slightly sour, combined with light notes of malt and citrus, leading to a dry bitter end. And to make it perfect the body is thin. Thanks Per for this new country.

Golden King Premium Beer 1.2
Canned. Pale yellow coloured. Clear. Off white smalll head. Straw, plastic and citrus in the nose. Flavour is canny and artificial, with that plastic thing again. Thin and watery. Is sweetish with light fruitnotes in the end. Well, well, well.........

Can (BB 12/2005)
Pale yellow color, small white head. Plastic malty flavor where rice is evident. Sweetish malty lager, reasonably clean. Light. Goes with spicey food more or less.
