Galway Hooker Irish Pale Ale
Bottle from local wholesale distributor, served in 20 cl shaker. Not to be uncharitable, but this neither an IPA or an APA by taste or aroma, but a malt soup without any real hoppiness; without the "IPA" label, I might have taken it for a lager off the bat. You get more character from Carlsberg’s faux-IPA/APA’s.

Galway Hooker Irish Dark Lager
Very water-y, mainly smells and tastes like bread (i.e. not much). V mild sniff of sacks of (fruity) dried hops on nose. Finishes better than all of this suggests, with a bit of caramel and a pleasantly low amount of coordination. May plump for it again in the summer.

Clear deep golden color with a nice off white head. Looks nice. Toffee dominant. Hoppy, fruity and herbal. Medium body and an ok carbonation. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Well I would prefer some more bitterness to match the toffee. Any way quite fresh and easy drinkable ale.

Decent Pale Ale which kind of drinks and tastes like a regular Pale Ale. I certainly missed the hoppyness of other American Pale Ale’s.

Galway Hooker Sixty Knots IPA
Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [120815]
Dark amber, clear, frothy white head, slight lacing
Aroma of soft pine, soft hop nose, hint of earthy spicy hop
Taste of spicy hop initially, soft sweet clean caramel backbone, soft light fruit malts, but not over malty, dab of toasted malt, quite bitter spicy hops, some bitter zest, could be more hop fruity tbh
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, clean, bit oily, alcohol well hidden, no brewing faults. Finish is quite bitter
Overall - OK it’s not an IPA (too dark) but judged as a beer, although it’s not all that exciting, it’s quite good

Bottle at in laws, Roscommon, 25th July 15. Pours copper in colour, aroma caramel malt, not much hop character, taste is sweet malty caramel, like an American IPA with too much crystal malt ruining. It’s also filtered and clear, lacks character and differentiation. Poor for the style
