FatPhil	3.5 La Galotière Cidre du Pays d'Auge 750ml bottle (Vingiu non-existent webshop, Kaunas - thanks Tomas!) (7:4:7:3+:14=3.5+) The cork was fairly keen to escape from the bottle as soon as the cage was removed, just the lightest twist (but with a nice firm grip, I know I don't want to lose any of my light fixtures) started it moving irreversibly outwards. Oh, my, what a beautiful smelling cork - the apple and the wood, and basically the cork too. Pours like a champagne, a fairly loud fizz that persists for several minutes, but has a nice rich orange hue. The aroma's ... tiny drops of water splashing up my nose! When the petillance has died down a little, a far more serious aged woody apple cider aroma effuses - quite a tingly spiciness in the tannins. Lovely sweet apple juice is the first thing that touches the front of your tongue, but as you let more into your mouth and let the retronasals complete the experience it's way more complex than just apple juice. The dry woodiness is beautifully balanced and sophisticated, it feels like it's been aged for ever. Absolutely the champagne of the cider world, just lovely. Wednesday, December 6, 2023

The sound of how this pours is amazing, big fizzy massage for the eardrums. Bright near clear dark yellow golden with white ring head and lots of soft bubbling in the glass. Sweet mossy old apples, very woody, treebark, almonds, applesauce, subtle touches of floral honey, vanilla and custard, tastes like the outdoors, the spring, blossom, butterflies, sunlight on hoofprints in sandy tracks, chirping birds, crickets in sundries grass, warm blankets of summer air, dancing musquitos in front of a low red sun by the barn, long and pleasant nature hikes, simplicity and tradition, mother nature’s down to earth life juice. Soft sweetness, balanced nutty dry tannin bitterness, some tart apple in there too. Medium body and very fine fizzy carbonation. Saturday, June 2, 2018

Maakun	3.8 La Galotière Poiré Fermier Biologique Bottle at home with dinner. Clear light greenish-yellow like grapes with fizzy white head that lasts a few seconds. Sweet and sour pear, kiwi fruit, light apple, soft barnyard, a little lime. It’s quite fruity, but in a nice balanced way with a nice amount of barnyard in their and light dry mineral water notes. Medium sweet, under medium sour and light bitter. Medium bodied with crisp feel, soft fizzy carbonation and medium dry finish. Lovely stuff! So drinkeable and balanced. Saturday, March 24, 2018

Arôme est pomme fermentée, cristalisée, sucre brun résiduel, le tout sur un effet cloying rappelant le mielleux.Palais est cidre, Pomme finement acerbe, le tout est complexe même en ne marquant que 6%. Clear dark amber cider, small aery irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. aroma: lots and lots of apple juice, sweet sugary apple juice, just that. MF: no carbon, medium to full body (not bad for a 6%). Taste: lots and lots of apple juice, nothing more, a bit acidic and pretty sugary, but just apple juice. 77ships	3.4 La Galotière Cidre de Glace 375 ml. bottle. 80 ml. sample. WORST WAX(?) EVER. You need a knife an it shatters only into tiny pieces so you need to break off bit by pit and it falls everywhere & almost impossible to keep the bits out of the bottle, massive mess. Darker orange than expected. Nose is sweet cloying syrup de Liège apple, extreme sugar, Turkish delight with oddly almost the faintest sourer red apple. Taste is like sugar water, stale, cobwebs, smell is promising but taste is stale old candy, Turkish delight, bit watery, sugar water, too cloying in an empty way, old candy & plastic coats your mouth in the finish. Bit too plain sugar water & candy. Aftertaste is mothballs, grandmother candy,… Frankly quite disappointing, totally overpaid for this. Two way tie for my least favourite ice cider so far out of 35. minutemat	3 La Galotière Poiré Fermier Biologique 75cl bottle from madeincalvados.com. Pours a very pale yellow, thin head of bubbles. Once uncaged the cork fires out immediately, almost right through the ceiling! Aroma is faint but noticeable French perry pear fruit. Taste is highly spritzy, clean and light with a drying close. Has a rather delicate character and extremely accessible with little of the honey-like sweetness and stickiness of other Poiré ciders. It’s likeable but just lacks any real character. Taste starts with an intangible rose pepper without the peppery heat. Finish has that too. Palate surprisingly full for the carbonation level. Cloudy equals good. Some toffee too.
