Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Clear, light gold. Film of sticky, lasting, white head. Nose has lemon hop. Some cut grass. Notes of honey malts. Touch of spice. Taste has a bready sweetness, turning light, grassy, spicy bitter. Fairly clean palate. Soft fizz. Short bitter finish. Completely smashable, tasty lager.

Bottiglia.

Durham Finchale Abbaye
Bottle from Whistlestop Wines in Saltburn. Pours deep mahogany, almost black with a thin beige head. Roasty aroma with chocolate and liquorice. The taste is quite spicy at first with lots of liquorice and some raisin. Quite rich. Fairly high carbonation giving a full mouthfeel. A bit of a liquorice bomb, but decent.

Durham Temptation
Piana niska, szybko znikająca do postrzępionej firanki. Barwa ciemno brązowa z mahoniowymi refleksami. Aromat karmelowy, czekoladowy i kawowy, uzupełniony lekką palonością, śliwką węgierką i pumperniklem. Goryczka średnia do niskiej, palona. Niskie wysycenie.

At a tasting, many thanks Hippoman, small stable creamy head, light hazy slightly intense yllow color, light mellow smokey aroma with some wood and some maltiness in the back, smokey woody almost charred flavor with a bready maltiness, light pleasant bitterness and a sweet and sour fruitiness coming through later and especially in the aftertaste. Balanced, drinkable and really nice.

Bottle shared at home - erupted once opened so unfortunately 1/3 of this ended up on my bar top and in the washing up bowl. In spite of that it poured a clear golden with a fizzy, lively white head which quickly faded away. Aroma of alcohol, orange and lemon with a hint of coriander. Taste is sweet with orange and lemon again. Light body, prickly carbonation and warming.

Cask conditioned at The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer, Bristol. Gold with white head. I may have missed something here, but wasn’t this supposed to be smoked? I didn’t pick any smokiness out at all. There was a sweetish, jammy, marmalade note, a little thin on the palate. Sweet in the close. Just a little disappointing.

Light brown/dark red, small and weak head that recedes quickly. Aroma is fruity (cherry?), slightly nutty, maybe with a hint of earthiness. Taste is mostly sweet with toffee and some fruitiness. A hint of tea-like bitterness in the finish and in the aftertaste. Light to medium body, very light carbonation; smooth and easy, a bit too thin. The overall feeling is good as the beer is very smooth and drinkable; still, not much is going on

Aromat: gorzka czekolada, paloność, niezbyt intensywny. Wygląd: barwa czarna, piana raczej średnia Smak: wytrawne, gorzka czekolada, w tle paloność, goryczka średnia, trochę alkoholowe. Tekstura: za mało ciała - średnio pełne, wysycenie niskie. Ogólne wrażenie: niezły ris, chociaż mało stylowy, bliżej mu do FES-a.

Bought this bottle in Q3 2015 and consumed at home in late February 2016. AROMA: Burnt caramel, leathery. Fruity. APPEARANCE: On first glance jet black. Slight red hue. Tiny head and loads of lacing. TASTE: Burnt caramel, dates, raisins, sour. Chocolate was for me really detectable. PALATE: Sour, little if any carbonation but it works. Long lasting finish. ABV is detectable.Slight lingering bitterness from the chocolate notes. OVERALL: Not bad, this was my second bottle. For a dark sour though Rullquin for example is preferable for me.

Durham Bombay 106
Bottle from the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy white head and the smallest touch of carbonation. The nose is full of unexpected and interesting medicinal, herbal and clove character. The taste opens very bitter and stays that way into a long finish but there are some slightly sweeter wheat beer type flavours present too. On the whole it’s overly dry for my liking - verging on astringent - while its flavours fail to mask its overt, boozy strength. Expected better.
