Bottle sampled @ Björn, thanks. Brown head. Totally black color. Big and hard roasted malt aroma. The taste is hard roasted that also gives a malt acidity. OK bitterness.

Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout
500ml bottle from a shop in Pembrokeshire, shared with Mike. Pours deep dark brown with beige head. Mirage-like caramel choc aroma. Rather fizzy mouthfeel with little chocolate coming through. Mild grains but a bit thin and watery. Not the best I’ve had from this brewery.

Pen-lon Cottage Gimmers Mischief
Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen, consumed at home 17th September 2015. Thanks you two! Dark gold bit cloudy with a white head, bitterness builds and it’s a tangy fruity effort, busy carbonation, slow steady continual eruption out of the bottle on the pour. Yeasty sediment in mouth. It’s ok, but benefited from me pouring a little Brewdog DPC in to the last 1/4 to hop it up a little. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9

Pen-lon Cottage Tipsy Tup Pale Ale
500ml bottle conditioned: BBE Jan 16. Poured at home into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 12th Aug 15. Could only get half the beer out of the bottle, so big was the head and the beer so lively. Hazy dull amber/orange body, the huge head off-white and alive! Yeasty, almost home brew in aroma with malts pushing the hops into a distant second place scent wise. The taste more an equal blend, Pale malts and semi-bittering hops marry together quite well and give a good overall feel to the flavouring. Another Welsh beer and brewery to my collection, this offering was more OK than live changing or interesting.

500ml bottle from Fire & Ice, Narberth. Pours amber with slight haze and a bubbly white head. Light malty aroma. Taste is thin with light hops, stale water and an off-putting bitter finish. Not the best Pen Lon I’ve tried.

500ml bottle from Fire & Ice, Narberth. Pours cloudy orange / copper with a proud white head. Vague malt aroma. Taste is rather weak and a touch watery with a mirage-like maltiness. Pleasant enough but not a lot going on really. Which at 3.0% was probably to be expected.

Very dark with just a red tinge. Tan head. Very chocolatey aroma. Lots of chocolate flavour but balanced nicely with bitter coffee and roast malt flavours. Very decent and much better than some of the others I’ve had from this brewer.

Hazy golden with a thin white head. Aroma is mild citrus hops with a touch of honey. Starts quite light and hoppy before a strong honey finish. A little watery. The honey flavour becomes too much after a while, becoming oily and cloying.

Black with a thin tan head. Coffee aroma and lot of coffee and chocolate flavour. After a couple of disappointing Pen-lon brews, this was much better. Would be great but let down slightly by being over carbonated and a touch watery.

Poured a murkey amber despite having been sat a couple of days. This is the second Pen-lon beer I’ve had that has reminded me of my home brew attempts. A little sharp at first before a dry bitter finish with the taste of brewers yeast. Poor.

Pen-lon Cottage Chocolate Stout
A nice beer that was found somewhere in the UK while traveling I got around to drinking it while clearing all the bottles that were not going home. For the most part it is a solid stout. Ultimately though it lacks that memorable aspect that sets it apart from others.

Aroma / Appearance - A reddish brown base looks like Cherry Coke but with a sandy head the color of brittle newspaper. Chocolate pudding, cheap coffee from a rural gas station, and figs or raisins provide evidence that it is in the ballpark.

Flavor / Palate - Chocolate truffles, black coffee, and more are pleasantly held within a bright mouthfeel. Carbonation peeks through at times. The only problem is that after a few sips it gets to be dull. With a lack of depth it turns into just another chocolately stout.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass. Pours a light amber colour with a white head and decent lacing as you drink down. Smells slightly malty and yeasty but not too strong. Tastes lovely, balanced everything really. Slight citrus in there too, but very slight. Overall a lovely ale, albeit a bit pricey.

Bottle purchased from Discount Supermarket. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a hazy light orange colour a white head and decent lacing. Smells citrusy and almost very much like a hefeweizen, so citrusy too. Tastes lovely, very quaffable. Malts and hops equally balanced making a very refreshing, crisp taste. Overall a brilliant beer, I could drink this all day.

Purchased from Discount Supermarket. Poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark watery black colour, with a small white head, no lacing. Smells dark and stronger than it’s actual abv. Tastes nice, very nice mix of hops and malts like the bitter but this time darker and more burnt undertones. You can tell the difference in malt types. Overall a lovely stout, very drinkable.

Pen-lon Cottage Heather Honey Ale
Bottled 14/07/12. A darkish gold coloured beer with an off-white head. A sweet honeyed aroma with a touch of citrus fruit. Same in mouth. The honey is too much for me, and there’s a herbal note from the heather. An off putting rubberiness in the nose too. I’m never a fan of honey beers although some are better than others. This one’s not up my street at all though.

50 cl. bottle shared / thx to tderoeck – very slightly hazy, apricot, amber coloured with a white head, smells like a canned fruit salad, punch-style, peaches, canned cherries, pineapple,… fruity yeast, taste is touch toned down canned fruit salad, mainly peach, fruity yeast, pineapple, citrus, flowers, very fruity for an ESB, medicinal bitterness in the finish, hay, way too carbonated, apparently we were supposed to pour it in a jug before drinking it, evidently

pint size bottle, thanks Tderoeck for the share.

Clear blond beer, aery big white head, unstable, little adhesive. Aroma: pretty fruity, apple sauce, upon adding some of the yeast it gets even more fruitier with hints of pineapple and ripe peaches. MF: very carbonated, light to medium body. Taste: fruity start, some pineapple, citrus, grapefruit, bit grassy hops. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, bit medicinal, citrus fruits, touch of barnyard. Not too bad.
