Windie Goat The Dubh Porter

Pigs Ear. Clear dark brown beer. Neutral palate but very low carbonation. Well balanced dark malt with some peachy orange hop coming through, not bitter. Not bad.

Windie Goat Gutter Slab
Sampled this strong IPA style at the Paisley Beer Festival, May 2009. Cask, gravity dispense. Crystal clear pale straw in colour with a thin loose white head. Strong aroma of fresh lemons and a good refreshing mouthfeel. Pale malts give a robust intensity of citrus fruit with lemon, grapefruit and then softer notes of kiwi and honeydew melon appear. Hop resins give a strong floral bitter flavour in the dry aftertaste, ending with a bitter sweet 50/50 finish. An excellent summer session ale and a new one from the Windie Goat portfolio to look out for.

Windie Goat The Dubh Porter
Sampled this porter at the Paisley Beer Festival April 2007. Cask, gravity dispense. Mahogany black in colour with a creamy white head. Strong roast malt aroma with slight chocolate overtones. Disappointing thin mouthfeel though leading to complex dark malt combinations, giving distinct chocolate malt flavour with roasted almonds and slight bramble fruit notes. Dry dusty hop resin in aftertaste with a vinous winey fruit in the finish. A decent session porter.

Windie Goat Priest's Wheel
Had this excellent local Scottish ale at the Troon Beer Festival October 2006. Cask, handpump dispense. Dark copper red in colour with a tight white creamy head. Floral hop aroma with a good silky mouthfeel. Complex dark malts in taste giving a very fruity flavour of juicy summer berries and an unusual delicate bouquet of parma violet sweets! Refreshing fruit notes linger on with a slight dryness from the aromatic hop finish. A cracking summer session ale for those fed up with drinking Deuchars IPA cloned citrus types.

[minikeg, Windie Goat Brewery] Pours an opaque orange colour, even after having been well settled - with minikegs you often get half a glass full of chunks before the drinkable beer comes. Strong lemony aroma from the hops, really makes you want to dive in. On the taste, the characteristic citrusy Cascade flavours come to the fore. An abv around 4% would really lose something, the higher alcohol content pays off. Good bitter finish. Really nice indeed [20072008]

[cask at the 2008 SRAF] Pale yellow beer with a thin white lacing. Aromas are grassy hop and a little spiciness – definitely got that musty Fuggles aroma. The palate is more grassy hop, together with some citrus. Malt is there too – quite a decent bitter [21062008]

Windie Goat The Dubh Porter
Cask (gravity dispense) at Pigs Ear Beer Festival, 2 December 2009. From the name, I was expecting something blacker but this was more of a dark brown colour. No head. No condition. Roast malt and chocolate quite evident. Also some good hoppy bitterness for balance. Quite good, despite the unpromising initial impression.

Minikeg. American style IPA with huge hop flavours that fill the mouth and a dry resinous finish that’s long on the tongue. Splendid version of what IPA should be like. Only available in the brewpub, at occasional festivals and online but worth watching out for.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at the White Horse in Hedgerley.
Mid golden brown with a thin bubbly head and some good condition. Awesome grassy bitter hops with a lovely lasting bitter sting. Bitter bite gives it a glorious mouthfeel. Straight down the line it may be but it drinks well below its strength and is really well made. Started the day with this and it was all downhill from here. Hoped to go back and get some more but Kevin and the other fella behind the bar had been having sneaky nips of it all day and it ran out!

Had this last year at the festival and absolutely slated it. This year it was far better but still no show stopper. Nice clean gold colour with a thin white head. Decent peach and kiwi accents from the hops. Slight notes of tobacco and straw. Decent dry bitter finish. A marked improvement on last years sample.

Bit of dryness on end. A lot better than last year, with a bit of peach/citrus, but still not wonderful
