Hoppin’ Frog Outta Kilter Wee Heavy Scotch Red Ale
Small, diminishing beige head, that leaves just a thin cover above the near copper colored liquid, that have just a hint of haze. Sweet aromas, with an earthy, estery backdrop. Has some hints of being a red, but really just seems to be a bit unclean. Thicker, lightly oily feel. Caramel, fruit and alcohol flavors. I think the alcohol dominates the spice that might be found from the rye. A bit too much out of balance for me. 8/10

Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged Outta Kilter
65 cl bottle @ Timo A.
Pours dark mahogany red color with a small head, lots of sediment floating around. Sweet caramel and malts on the nose, mild nutty tones, some vanilla and bourbon notes, faint bread, syrupy sweetness. Sweet caramel malty flavor, nutty dry notes, resin, very subtle chocolaty tones, vanilla. Smooth and sweet, quite pleasant, alcohol comes slightly through but nothing disturbing.

22 oz bottle. Courtesy of olio. Clear red amber color with a tiny tan head and some floaters. Sweetness, marmalade, resin and caramel malt in the aroma. The flavor is sweetness, malt, marmalade, apricot and some alcohol. German Bock notes. Strong red ale if you ask me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hoppin’ Frog Tower Tuesday: Infusion A - Coffee Porter
65cl bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured black with a small one finger tan head. Aromas: Massive peanut butter & milk chocolate up front, then marshmallow, vanilla, roasted pecan nuts. Smells absolutely divine! Taste: chocolate milk, peanut butter, nougat, Nuts candy bar, vanilla, roasted coffee beans, Haagse Hopjes (Dutch caramel/coffee treats), salty licorice, roasted pecan nuts. Medium carbonation. Nice creamy, roasty mouthfeel. Medium to full body with a roasted, bittersweet finish. This is an absolute stonker of a beer! Reminds me of fluffy salted caramel frosting on chocolate/peanutbutter cupcake...Delicious!

Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged BORIS Van Wink
Roasty chocolately aroma with nice bourbon (vanilla, caramel, coconut) aromas. Poured a black color with nice tan head. Aromas carry through in the flavor; nice roasty highlights and the bourbon character is not too dominant. Notes: Denver Rare Beer Tasting ’15

Hazy very pale golden and a neat white cap. Nose is spicy, soft sweetness. Initial taste is thick sweetness and fairly brasic. Carbonation is sleek and mouthfeel lean enough. Weird sherbertty sweetness to finish. Decent boost juice for the ABV.

Hoppin’ Frog Re-Pete 2X American Imperial Brown Ale
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, raisin, currant, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, biscuit, chocolate, cocoa, nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy hops and dark/roast/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, raisin, currant, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, biscuit, chocolate, cocoa, nuttiness, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, raisin, currant, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, biscuit, chocolate, herbal, floral, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy hops and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, sticky/resinous, fairly creamy/bready, and slightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial brown IPA style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy hops and dark/roast/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV and aggressive bitterness. A very enjoyable and unique offering; with the combination of interesting hop flavors and supporting malts.

Brown cap. Cloudy amber beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is airy and slightly dry, good fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, creamy sweet. A most unexpected touch of vanilla. Light pine. Modest floral candy fruits. Touch of ripe citrus. A little zippy tropical fruits, Strong spicy pine finish. A curious but drinkable IPA. And I thought Motueka was a Kiwi hop?

Hoppin’ Frog Mean Manalishi
22oz bottle. Birthday Beer! Pours a clear amber with a nice sticky head of mixed bubbles and cream. Plenty of lacing. Aroma is beautiful malt and sticky hops. Of course the alcohol is high and the hops are plentiful, but Hoppin Frog brings these components together seamlessly and with artistry. The malts are sweet, chewy, delicious, and clean. The hops are sticky and bitter. The alcohol is present but an after-thought that doesn’t impede the enjoyment in any way. Excellent.

Hoppin’ Frog / Cigar City DareDevils Got Game
650ml bottle from Binnys in Highland Park, shared with bananabi11. Very dark brown pour with a bit of a tan head. Aroma starts with big coffee, then chocolate liqueur, caramel and molasses show through. Taste is sweet caramel, bakers chocolate, cacao, some smooth oatmeal and some espresso. The smooth liqueur presence of the nose is spread out more in the taste, but it remains smooth - thanks to the oatmeal. Medium-to-full bodied, with soft carbonation. There is some alcohol presence and the blend is quite good. Finishes slightly to the bitter side of bittersweet. Smooth and tasty, this is quite good. 15.7

From a bomber into a snifter. Dark brownish/black with really no head. Coffee aroma with some sweet molasses. Mouthfeel is oily but not too thick. Taste is sweet coffee, smoke and wood. Licorice is there too but it’s pretty subdued, and I don’t like licorice. Expensive at $12.50 but worth a try.

Hoppin’ Frog Tower Tuesday: Infusion A - Coffee Porter
Bomber, no BB.
