Hoppin’ Frog Teeny Tiny Test Batch IPA Vol. 1 3.6
Pours a cloudy, hazy, dirty orange with nice off-white head and lacing. Aroma is stale citrus, floral, candied, a little dusty. Taste also has a staleness clouding it, but has some nice elements of citrus up front and a solid, cutting hop bitterness in the middle, bolstered by a bready caramel malt. The finish brings this one around decently. Fresher would be better here, though. No date on the bottle. :(

Hoppin’ Frog DORIS The Destroyer 4.8
65cl bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured pitch black like greasy engine oil with a small one finger tan head that disappeared quickly. Low carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, licorice, dark fruits. Taste: Oooooh that is so fingerlickin’ good! Dark chocolate, roasted espresso beans, oatmeal currant bread, Haagse Hopjes (Dutch caramel/coffee sweets), molasses, it has vinous qualities, vanilla, caramelized creme brulee, roasted bread with jam, licorice, raisins, butterscotch, roasted nuts. Absolutely divine! It’s got this enormous thick, and gloopy mouthfeel, very sticky on the palate. A FULL body with a long super ROASTED bittersweet finish. Double oatmeal it most certainly is. This is a an absolute monster of an Imperial Stout it’s almost scary. I dare anyone to experience this...WOW!

Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged DORIS The Destroyer 3.9
Catch up from last night’s RIS tasting. Barrel aging evident from the get-go, big ABV and won top of the already warmth right from the start. Tons of woody accents, gives this one a nice edge over the normal variety.

Hoppin’ Frog BORIS The Crusher 3.4
Malziger, milder weicher Röstantrunk. Süffig, angesichts des Stils und Alkoholgehalts ungewöhnlich. Malzig herber Mittelteil, Andeutungen des Alkoholgehalts, leicht holzig. Gut. 12/10/11/11/11/11

Hoppin’ Frog King Gose Home 3.6
Bottle at Cafe Sara, april 10th 2015. Hazy yellow body, short white head. Aroma is pretty malty with a light acidic note, peach and apricot. Taste is lightly sour, again pretty strong malt character with a medium sweetness, light tart sourness, zesty grapefruit. It’s not as sour or salty as many modern goses , with a stronger malt presence, probably due to the higher strength though on it’s own a pretty good ber.

Hoppin’ Frog Wild Frog Wheat Ale 3.2
Pours out a cloudy golden with a large rocky and bubbly white head that’s quite audibly bubbly, potentially gone bad and foams up far too fast, even in a clean glass. Earthy wheaty notes hit the nose with a fair dose of clove and toast bread, a slight grassiness, and a hint of lemon. Crisp dry taste with a fair amount of wheat and German yeast, light banana and a slight wheaty fluffy sweetness on the finish. A bit bready throughout.

Hoppin’ Frog DORIS The Destroyer 3.3
Pours an unctuous black from a bottle, thin brown head. Roasty chocolate aroma, flavor starts off a bitter chocolate, then gets sweeter by the sip. Thick and milkshake-y. Good beer.
Saturday, April 02, 2016

Hoppin’ Frog Karminator 4
Woody brown hue with a thin light beige head that dissipates somewhat quickly. Very interesting nose of a perfumey citrus and boozy toffee malt, a kiss of bubblegum, a light kiss of chocolate. Full and boozy malty flavor with a light kiss of bubblegum and floral citrus, a nice complex body and flavor so layered it’s hard to dissect. There’s honey and floral hops and toffee and bock malt and light toast and something slightly perfumey.

Hoppin’ Frog Teeny Tiny Test Batch IPA Vol. 1 3.4
22 oz. bottle. Pours hazy cloudy clean copper cloudy with a soapy sudsy head that slowly settles... Slowly settles. Aroma is stale earthy citrus floral pine caramel candied hops and malt biscuit. Taste is dulled bitterness with big caramel biscuit malt which is sugary biscuit after tones of stale elements that have been sitting for months waiting to be bought by someone excited to get Hoppin Frog in their area. Palate is medium pale calm carbonation and sticky dry finish. I could see this being tasty.... if fresh. Unfortunate purchase by a brewery that is great!

Hoppin’ Frog Barrel Aged DORIS The Destroyer 3.3
Bottle. Thick black with a small diminishing dark brown head.Bourbon, charcoal and acidic roasted malt in the nose. The flavour is somewhat rough. Acidic roasted malt, wet dark wood, vanilla, dark chocolate, spicy rye bread. Medium/full body, oily texture, soft carbonation, medium sweet and bitter, light acidic. This is not doing the original version any favours.
