7th April 2015: two hand-pulled pints at the brewpub. Think they have up’ed the ABV and added some caramel because the beer didn’t taste like the other three rater’s have said. Brown body with a beige topping, caramel notes in both the nose and flavour, mild fruitiness but mostly caramel. My sweet tooth preferred this to the other Lion’s Tale beers on the night.

Bottle share thanks to colleague in work. Hazed dull chestnut brown coloured pour with a lasting loose grey big bubble head. Aroma is sour apple, musty, touch of lacto and wood. Defo an infection, but reasonably pleasant. Flavour is tart berry and apple skins, touch of lacto sharp, nutty malts and drying slightly puckering in the finish. Palate is tanin and crisp light puckering acid, very drying in the finish. An unintended sour that actually is ok and reletively pleasant.

Desk beer at work on Friday. Thanks to my colleague James for the new brewery.. Clear golden coloured pour with a frothy lasting white head. Aroma is fruity berry, midget gems, little bit of straw. Flavour follows, crisp , slightly earthy grains, fruity berry, English yeast esters, tangy berry finish. Palate is dry and grainy, moderate carbonation. Fruity english golden, pretty good.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the brewpub on 11th Jan 2014. The name gives the colour away somewhat. The landlord/brewer informed me this had ginger added to the brew, I was struggling to find whatever it was that my nose and taste buds were picking up: when I suggested cloves to him he said it was the ginger that I was picking up. I enjoyed it, even though I never buy ’ginger beers’ knowingly. I’ll be visiting The Red Lion again, it’s a friendly place and needs the trade to survive. It’s location in rural Shropshire makes it hard for them.

Hand-pulled half-pint in the brewpub on 11th Jan 2014. Guess what colour it was: correct, blonde. White head. This is one of those citrus flavoured blondes that I don’t really like. It may well be delicate and difficult to brew but I’m fed up with them, especially during the winter months. Anyway there was nothing wrong with this, I had it because I wanted the tick I suppose. If you like these citrus brews you’d enjoy this one. I’ve tried to score it objectively.

Hand-pulled pint in the Brewpub on 11th Jan 2014. Dark brown with a red hue, full white head. Hops try and stay with the roasted malty aroma and taste but fail to show greatly, until the finish, which was dry and slightly bitter. Nice pint in a nice pub.
