Hartwall Polar Monkeys White Collar
A clear light copper colored beer with a thin white layer on top. Nose has wheat, hay and mikd citrus aromas. Somewhat caramelly taste with a bitter, a bit soapy finish. Medium carbonation and light palate. Drinkable beer but not a light, refreshing golden ale. A bit heavy and earthy.

33cl bottle from SuperAlko, Tallinn. Pours dark mahogany coloured with a modest off-white head. Malty, caramelly and somewhat bready aroma with notes of dried fruits and alcohol. Sweet, caramelly and flavour goes in the more unpleasant direction. Not something I would like to drink again. Sweet mess!

Can. Pours clear copper with medium sized head. Aroma of mainly fruity hops, which give bitterness to the brew. Light to medium sweetness and bitterness. Boring but ok I guess.

33cl bottle from SuperAlko, Tallinn. Pours clear golden with a white head. Did expect the worst, but doesn’t smell so bad. Mild hoppy and malty aroma with some fruity notes and hints of grass. Moderate to medium sweet with fairly low flavour intensity and a moderate bitterness. Nothing memorable, but better than expected and fairly drinkable.

Can@home. Light, watery product with nuances of corn, sweet malts and something artificial. Low fidelity, filthy product. Almost as bad as its American counterparts.

0.33 l bottle as Premium Export @ Viking Xpress ferryboat (Helsinki-Tallinn). Quite pale with a decent head. Taste is quite mellow, similarly to Heineken or Carlsberg. At least alcohol didn’t taste too much in this stronger variant. Quite OK with some food. I’d still opt for something else when in need of lager.

Can 0.5l at home, Vantaa. Enjoyed straight from the can. Aromas and flavours: Spices, pepper, rosemary, some grain and malts. Horrible. Disgrace. Please change the beer name "British IPA" for something more better like "Finnish spicy crap bulk lager" or stop brewing beers.

Can from local shop. Aroma has apple juice. Tastes like apple cider/juice as well, with hints of lagery beer. Is very sweet, and more tastes like cider than beer, but beer can be still tasted a bit. As a mix of cider and beer this is surprisingly good, but of course it isn’t good for a beer.

33cl bottle from SuperAlko, Tallinn. Pours clear deep golden without much head to speak of. Malty, sugary and caramelly with hints of fruits and not much depth in the aroma. Sweet, with flavour of grain and sugar and a mild bitterness in the finish. Pretty crappy stuff, but probably drinkable under the right circumstances. I’m heading for the sink.

Can at home. Pours clear and golden with small white head. Aroma of caramel, cardamom mixed with other spices. Wierd and all over the place, but not that bad. Light to medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Perfectly drinkable, but its not even close to IPA’s. Naming it IPA probably dissapoints people, as they are expecting something completely different.

Golden beer, typical looking lager. Aroma is a bit roasty, malty. Taste is also roasty, which I don’t remember sensing from other lagers. Also has some bitterness in taste. Good for parties, just like any lager, but in my opinion this is maybe the best Finnish bulk lager.

Copenhagen 26/5 2016. 33 cl can from Helsinki Airport. Dark blue can with characteristic red star. Pours clear yellow with white head. Head disappears fairly fast leaving lonesome patches of foam drifting around. Aroma of sweet malts and grain and corn. Maybe a touch of black pepper. Prickly carbonation and watery palate. Flavor is on the sweet side. Only very light bitterness. Nice red star but uninspiring beer.

Bottle. Golden body, small head. It’s slightly darker than average premium/pale lagers but not dark enough to be called anything else. Aroma has sweet hops and sugary caramel. Pretty nice hoppy taste with some light caramel. Simple and drinkable. Reminds me of a less hoppy version of Brooklyn Lager.

Clear copper/deep amber, big frothy off-white head, lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is semisweet, bit chalk and soapy notes, grain, cooked vegetables, grass. Bad artificial and strange aroma. Some part comes from big head and lacing it seems, so pour this one gently. Actually head also dissipates to a messy look. Light to medium body, semisweet, bit watery, low carbonation, grainy. Works better than aroma but flavor is bit diluted and one-sided. No major flaws anyway on top here. Bulkish imitation, did not enjoy.

Can (from K Citymarket Kivihaka, Vaasa). Hazy yellow colour with a small creamy white head. Aroma is citrus, some yeast and mild acidic notes. Flavour is very similar with some slight spiciness to it. Refreshing, but rather watery. Atleast this one has some Witbier elements to it, even though it’s not a that strongly tasting beer...

33cl can from S-Market, Helsinki. Pours completely clear amber with a fairly decent, off-white head. So far so goo. Smell reminds me of - strange - it reminds me of a freshly opened can of Norwegian liver pate (Stabburets leverpostei). What the...? Smells and tastes like that. Quite horrible! Some grainy and sugary notes, but all together this so-called beverage just screams for the sink. Didn’t look to bad, but the rest was just horrible!

Pours pale yellow with a little head. The aroma features wheaty maltiness, lemon, zest and some spiciness; promising. Taste is light sweet and light spicy with some bitterness trying to surface late on. Citrusy fruitiness and grainy maltiness are most prominent with spicier elements staying in the background; also a touch of perfume appears. The palate is light bodied and very smooth. Lacks both the rich flavour profile and full-bodied palate that the best wits have. Drinkable still, especially in the summer sun.

Clear orange beer with a white foam. The aroma, what the hell? Is this spiced? Smelled a little like cinnamon... The label says it has rosemary and coriander. Sigh. Thankfully the taste is better but still I hate that the flaws of this beer have been hidden behind spices.

Can. Golden amber clear. Black tea leaves, old leafy, herby, somewhat earthy, lemony nose. Light bodied, bitter. Crackers, lemony-gingery tea leafy. I get the brittishness here with the hoppy flavours, doesnt seem like an ipa though. Almost like a spiced ale, Im just getting the lemon tea- thing so strongly.
