Hopshackle Vertigo "VF"
Bottle at home, 12/05/16. Deep amber to Frank Coopers orange marmalade with a decent enough light beige cap. Nose is light must, pineapple chunks that have sat in the fridge for 10 days, light peppery spice, caramel malt. Taste comprises sweet malt, caramel sauce, toasted brown sugar, fruit loaf, toffee, candied orange peel. Medium + body, limited to low carbonation, sweet malty close with light hop bitterness. Unlike the VC that I had 5 weeks ago, the VF has not held up as gracefully. Hops have faded much more ... now more akin to an aged barleywine. That said if you want to pick one up ... it’s still sippable!

Hopshackle Marillo
Handpull cask at the Tobie Norris, Stamford. Light gold, clear, with little head or lacing. Lemon, grapefruit and vanilla pod aroma, with a slight astringency. Sweet with a floral vanilla note, with more bitter citrus on the end of the sip. Bitter hops and botanicals on the finish. Different than most goldens, and all the better for it.

Cask. Sheffield Tap. Clear, pale gold. Film of sticky, white head. Kid next to me stinks of expensive, but shit, man perfume. At 5pm. Why? Where’s he going, other than home? Fucking reeks. His mum presses his shirts and he has trolley bags growing out of his arse. Beer has lost, big time.

Bottle at home, 03/04/16. Murky amber orange with a moderate off white covering. Nose is bitter orange, dusty hops, orange marmalade, caramel wafer. Taste comprises sweet malt, candied fruit peel, jiucy hop, mandarin, light mineral strokes, caranelised sugar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet finale, moderate hop bitterness and a boozey kick. Not bad to be honest and considering the age, easy going sipper.

Gravity at The NWAF, Derby. A deep brown colour with a foamy beige head. Aroma of orange, maybe gooseberry, some grapefruit, a little pine, slight roasted malts, subtle chocolate and dark fruits. Taste of orange, grapefruit, some passion fruit, slight resin, a little chocolate, roasted malts and subtle dark fruits. Full bodied and an oily texture. A bittersweet, chocolatey, citrus hop bitterness in the finish. Can tell this is a heavily hopped Black IPA. Citrusy, resinous and an oily texture. The roasted, chocolatey malts come through well too. A well made beer, maybe just too alcoholic at times

Hopshackle Killicks IPA
[Robin Hood Beer Festival, Nottingham Castle, 2015] - Hopshackle Brewery, Market Deeping, Killicks IPA, 5.8%. Clear yellow golden, with a frothy, medium sized white head. Rather intense flavour of vitrus, hops, herbal and medicinal notes. Medium body, hardly watery, modest carbonation. Lemon, apricot, pine, herbal and spicy notes at the start. Drier towards the middle, pine getting resinous, with floral notes. Lemon and herbs in the finish, bitter, dry, pinewood plus honey melon aftertaste. Genuine IPA variation, very interesting.

Gravity poured half-pint on 26th Aug 2015 at the Peterborough Beer Festival. Golden body with a weak white topping. Herbal and spicy hop nose with a citrus leaning, taste follows in the same was although there is a good malt backdrop that blends in well. An easy drinking IPA with enough alcohol to give you a mini boost.

Gravity poured half-pint on 26th Aug 2015 at the Peterborough Beer Festival. Golden, clear body, wispy white head. Heavy on the citrus in both the nose and taste, too much for me to be honest. Some malt action in the flavour but the citrus dominance was not for me. Dry bitter finish, but too citrusy all round (scored objectively as possible).
