Christmas season beer. Unfiltered weizenbock. Pours a heavy hazy brown color with small tan head. Smell of red fruits, banana, sweet caramel. Really sweet taste, like molases and fruits, refreshing sensation after the first drink. It has a very light body with a smooth bitterness.

Minerva 11:40 White Stout 3.3
My Bottom Line:
Added coffee and chocolate are prominent, taking this brew into an herbal hop finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam covers the hazy golden, lacing nicely.
-This is surprisingly drinkable, despite the sweetness.
-Mouthfeel is soft and pleasant.
-The coffee and chocolate aren’t overwhelming, which I appreciate.

Bottle.

À hazed golden amber ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with signs of chocolate, light coffee notes, interesting. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with light coffee and chocolate notes, herbaceous hops, nice and smooth. Bottle from El Gourmand, Oaxaca, 75 pesos.

Minerva Belga de Convento 3
Bought this 10 year anniversary beer today ; pours dark and frothy. Licorice and plum aromas are very weak. Foam disappears into a thin layer, first taste is good, and New Belgium’s Abbey ale comes to mind. But this one is thin, sweet and raisins linger, no alcohol is present due to its low ABV of 7.5%, so this would not be a good bet for cellaring. All in all, a good Mexican abbey interpretation.

Bottle (Zmogsala, Vilnius) (6:3+:6+:3:13+=3.1+++)
Pleasant sweet bready malts. Orange, tiny head. Woody, maybe a bit cactussy, but very sweet. However, it’s not sticky. In fact, it’s a little watery. No sign of 7% at all. Tastes a bit old and oxidised, but I quite like that. Easily the best beer’ve had that’s had a Tequila reference in it.

Minerva Belga de Convento 2.9
Bottle. Deep, dark ruby with a frothy to minimal tan head. Earthy, sugary aroma of sweet malts, spices, nuts, clay, dried fruits. Medium bodied with moderate to fizzy carbonation. Low sweetness and bitterness, with a spicy malt and yeast character. Not terrible but far from the quality of a Belgian ale.

Minerva El Dorado IPA 4

Primus / Minerva Lupe Reyes 4.4

Minerva Stout Imperial 3.4
Another smash hit from the 7-11 on the corner, Roma, DF. Medium brown. Not much head. Slightly sweet, molasses aroma but with a bit of bitter chocolate. Palate is rich, with a bit of tar and Okinawan black sugar. Good body. Soft finish.

Botella, from the local Siete Once. Bright copper. Thin head. Aroma is all sorts of caramel. Body is quite soft, and has a subtle EKG taste but mostly has caramel. Not much bitterness to speak of. Bland, forgettable, but I did get it at the 7-11 so I didn’t have high hopes.

Reviewed on 26/12/14. Bottle, 355ml. A golden beer with a small white head and a lot of sediments. It has a very mild aroma of canned corn and wheat. Somewhat bitter at the beginning, but then becomes very watery and one dimensional. Taste reminds me of corn. Almost like a macro. Never again.

Reviewed on 30/12/14. Bottle, 660ml. A cloudy golden beer with a huge frothy white head. It has a fruity aroma of grapefruit, pine resin, pineapple and citrics. Taste is bitter, especially at the end. It has a hoppy character, some carbonation and considerable astringency, Citric and slightly alcoholic finish, but well masked for its high ABV. Strong aftertaste. Very drinkable and ideal for breakfast (it’s like a grapefruit/pineapple juice).

Bottle, 660ml. 2014 edition. Opaque ruby/copper with a lively, frothy tan head. Dry, dank, spicy aroma, with hints of berries, twigs/mud, clove, brown sugar and caramel. Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Slightly sweet and not bitter, with a strange acidity, and a clay like feel to the finish. Strange, earthy beer. Poorly balanced and borderline unpleasant.

Minerva 10:80 3.9
Bottle, 660ml. Slightly cloudy golden/amber with a fluffy/creamy offwhite head with sticky lacing. Intense fruity hoppy aroma with hints of pineapple, grapefruit, pine resin and other citrics. Rich, smooth and creamy, with just the right amount of carbonation. Slightly dry and astringent. Inmense fruit hop character with a heavy bitter finish. Malt backbone is slightly lacking, but the alcohol is well balanced and in control, and adds complexity to the brew. Extremely drinkable, which is dangerous for a beer with close to 10% ABV. As drinkable, tasty and refreshing as lemonade for me. Very nice.

Minerva Stout Imperial 2.8
My Bottom Line:
This Stout attempt shares tobacco, earth and chocolate while light acidity builds on the palate.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the dark brown.
-The soft body is marred by the fruity acidity.
-Roastiness is lengthy.
-Harmony isn’t at play throughout...
