Kassiks Buffalo Head Barley Wine 3.9
Bottle thanks to trade with AKandy! Pours a cloudy golden brown from the bomber with bubbly tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big sweet caramel malt and earthy notes. Taste follows, bit more towards the malt, big boozy notes. Really nice for the style, well done.

Kassiks Buffalo Head Barley Wine 3.4
Deep brown coloured body, very cloudy, with a bright ruby glow when held up to the light and a thinnish, single centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of oak, vanilla, toffee, nuts, caramel, alcohol and bunches and loads of pit fruits. Medium to Full-bodied; Very strong alcohol and metallic burn up front with a more sedate chocolate, raisin, fig, earth, oak, vanilla, bourbon and even some light hops in the flavour. Aftertaste is quite complex with the alcohol burn and malt by far the strongest flavours. But, some vanilla and especially the sweetness from the pit fruits starts to overlap on the burn, but the palate and flavour are less than ideal, especially with my aging of the bottle. Overall, a decent barley wine at best; Perhaps I was expecting a bit too much, but even after the aging of the bottle and getting it from a nice brewery way up North, this didnít turn out the way I had hoped. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 04-October-2013 for US$14,50 sampled at home in Washington as it starts to get slightly chilly here on 06-December-2015. Date on Bottle: 19-February-2013 // Purchased Date: 04-October-2013 // Sampled Date: 06-December-2015, Listed on Bottle at 2013 Vintage at 13,0% ABV

Kassiks Roughneck Stout 3.4
This one was described as an oatmeal stout. Black body, mocha cream head. Lovely aromas of oatmeal, roasted barley, and coffee intermingling above the glass. Smooth roasty body with healthy coffee notes, and a creamy mouthfeel. A touch of black patent on the finish.

Kassiks Smoked Russian Imperial Stout 3.1
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, dark chocolate), with notes of smoke (mostly campfire-ish, only slight smoked meat character), alcohol, and plastic. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky, slightly unclean. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy/velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. This one has a fairly simple aroma, but the smoke is assertive, especially for an American brewery. Itís a bit husky and dirty as with the Roughneck, but itís less obtrusive here thanks to the hiding/masking powers of such a big brew. Not quite enjoyable, but drinkable.

Kassiks Roughneck Stout 2.8
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, unsweetened chocolate, husks), with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Simple with kinda rough malt, and a bit too tart for my tastes too. Ok but fairly clunky.

Kassiks Morning Wood IPA 2.2
Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is medium to dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, grain), lightly hoppy (apricot), with notes of butter, wort, taffy, plastic, vegetables. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Quite poor...lots of off notes (not fully fermented, diacetyl, etc.) and overly sweet and syrupy. Nice apperance but thatís about it.

Kassiks Beaver Tail Blonde Ale 3
on tap @ Humpyís / Anchorage Ak --- Hazy light golden amber color, white head cover, cobwebs of lace. Taste is brisk, somewhat bitter malt that moves with no change to a swallow full of carbonation and medium pine hops. An easy-going blonde on steroids that somehow works anyway.

Kassiks Morning Wood IPA 3.3
on tap @ Prospectorís / Denai Natíl Park AK --- Clear bright copper color, solid white head cover, thick bands of lace. Taste is caramel malt that grows through the swallow to a finish that has enough hops to balance, but hardly enough to qualify to be called an IPA. Actually, a solid brew, but of questionable heritage.

Kassiks Dolly Varden Nut Brown 3.5
on tap @ Prospectorís / Denali Natíl Park AK --- Clear dark amber color with a long-lasting off-white head, sheets of lace. Nice looking along with a good malt aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt that stays true to the openers until light hops enter in a relatively short finish. A really nice, simple, Nut Brown Ale. Recommended.

Got the bottle at Ted Stephens Airport, where they have a shop with a bunch of Alaskan craft beverages you can buy to take on the plane. Dark brown, lots of smoke, with some fairly rich molassesy malts. A fairly rich brew, nice balance, and a sweet smokey character.

Kassiks Smoked Russian Imperial Stout 3.1
22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma is quite highly smoked, with peaty notes, ash tray and light roasted malt. Flavour is prominent on the peaty smoke, with medium roast and sludgy smoky notes. A bit murky and muffled, but decently executed. Not overly pleasant, but decent.

Kassiks Statny Statny 3.9
Bottle, opaque deep brown, graham cracker colored head, some lace. Aroma is metal, coffee, smoke, licorice, prunes. Flavor is molasses, licorice, coffee, cookies, toasted barley, burnt sugar, booze. Palate is rich and thick, carbonation nicely subdued and soft. This starts quite sweet, then transitions to licorice, and finishes nearly dry. Thereís a citrus rind astringency in the back of the throat like a DIPA. I think a couple of years in the cellar would do this good. This isnít bad, in fact I think itís better than thier smoked RIS. Reminds me of berserker (maybe I need to crack one of those again).

Kassiks Statny Statny 3.4
Draft at GABBF: Poured a dark brown almost black with tan head. Aroma was strong roast and molasses. Taste licorice, roasted malts, and gritty. Finish is where the licorice took hold the most and kinda ruined it for me since I am not a fan of it.

Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle
Dark amber-brown color with red hue, and small creamy head. The aroma is quite nutty, some caramel, light alcohol. Caramel and malt flavor, the alcohol punch is quite evident, nutty side too; correct bitterness.
A boozy Barley Wine, not bad, but not convincing too.

Kassiks Big Nutz Imperial Brown 3.7
Rich, super muddied brown coloured body with a nice deep brown colour and a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, earth, mushrooms, grain, yeast and of course a lot of nuts. Medium-bodied; Rich hop flavour at first with some grassy notes coming out, then showing a lot of caramel and sugars coupled with toffee and the ever-present earthiness. Aftertaste is all nuts and caramelised sugars with a rich pit fruit finish - nice and robust. Overall, a very nice brown with tons of flavour and a good alcohol presence, but somewhat muted which works nicely. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 04-October-2014 for US$8,00 sampled at home in Washington after celebrating running a marathon earlier today in Maryland on 29-November-2014.

Kassiks Chocolate Cherry Stout 3.8
Bottle, opaque black, graham cracker colored head, decent lacing. Aroma is cherries, coffee, roasted barley, molases, raisin. Body is so rich! Not thick, but very smooth mouthfeel! Taste is roasty barley, coffee, cherry, milk chocolate, bitter, slight citrus rind finish. This has some sweetness, but really well balanced, and roasty and bitter too. Carbonation is a bit bright, for a stout, could be mellowed, but itís a minor flaw.

Kassiks Buffalo Head Barley Wine 2.9
22 oz. bottle, pours a dark caramel brown with a small tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, booze and brown sugar -- lots of heat here. Flavour brings out caramel, alcohol, and candied sugar. Alcohol is revealing though not too burning. Pretty simplistic for a barley wine -- not very complex. Drinkable, but rather hot.

Solid bold brown ale. Strong brown malt flavor, owing to the higher ABV more likely. Quite chewy for this style. Perhaps a touch of alcohol heat.
