Rivertowne Pour House Reviews

Rooney’s Veterans All American Beer 2.6
Momos. Boring can , light straw blonde. Big, bone-colored head. Sweet, cereal malt aroma. Flavor is the same, almost like a tropical lager. No bitterness, some lemony zip. Actually a decent lawnmower brew.

Tallahassee, Fl. - 12 oz can at Momo’s. Hazy light golden pour, snow-white soft head. Grainy, yeasty aroma. Solid lager flavor with some bready notes, some grainy accents, a hint of yeast. Crisp mouthfeel.

Rivertowne/Millersburg OH-PA Pale Ale 3
Pour from tallboy can. Rich clear and deep gold with healthy head. Nose of gentle fruitiness, lemongrass, candied rind, dry dog food malt, bread, mozzarella saltiness? However, flavor is much more admirable. Grainy and smooth malt pair with a rich, juicy, gently lemony yet dry hop-presence. Buttery mouthfeel. No real notable flavors come out. Still, it’s a juicy, non-bitter, nicely balanced session with a full body for a 4.8%. A bit of residual sugar very present though.

FROTHINGSLOSH
Rivertowne Schloppy Monster Double IPA 3.4
Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured an amber color with a medium sized fluffy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet and tart with orange and pine notes. The flavor was tar and bitter with citrus, pine and sour caramel. Long piney finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Rivertowne Schloppy Monster Double IPA 3
Darker orange colored body, thin white head, some soapy lacing. Warming sugary orange, some resin, bread, and light booze. Medium bodied, decently sweet, moderate carbonation, assertive bitterness, warming. Typical big, heavy handed dIPA.

Rivertowne All Aboard Oatmeal Coffe Stout (Bourbon Barrel Aged) 3.5
Draft at Xroads. Poured only a medium density at best deep dark Tootsie Roll brown body with a large foamy mocha head. Aroma is roasty, vanilla extract, burnt chocolate, toasted coconut, burnt toast. Flavor is burnt chocolate, dark toast, vanilla, big booze on the finish. Mouthfeel is really thun for the style, stronger carbonation.

Rivertowne Schloppy Monster Double IPA 3.1
12oz can from Xroads. Poured a very light chill hazed bright gold with a foamy mostly white head. Aroma of sweet rotting citrus, old wet bread, bad citrus rinds, wet grassy hops. Flavor is a touch better, less sweet and slightly more of a dry bitterness. Medium body, slick scummy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Meh.

Rivertowne/Millersburg OH-PA Pale Ale 3.3
Crisp light malt aroma, pours a slightly dark amber with a full white head. Mild flavor, with a touch of biscuit notes and a slight bitter finish. Light bodied, easy drinking. This really isn’t a complex beer, but it’s a good one.

Rivertowne Grateful White 3.8
Poured into a pint glass. 4.0 A: Cloudy golden wheat color. Two fingers of frothy/creamy off-white head. Retention is about average and a solid finger of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Big hefty wheat, coriander. Interesting mix of lemon and bubblegum. Hints of spicy clove and pepper. Simple, yet sophisticated. Very nice. 4.0 T: Like the nose, this tastes great. Strong neutral wheat. Moderate coriander with peppery yeastiness. Clove underneath. Subtle bubblegum and lemon notes. 4.5 M: Medium, velvety body. Good moderate carbonation. Super creamy. Just what I want here. 4.25 D: A very well brewed witbier. ★ 627 characters DavoleBomb, Mar 29, 2015

DavoleBomb
Rivertowne Wit Ale 2.7
Poured into a perfect pint. Bottle. Presumably I have a new bottle design that just says "WIT" on it. 3.25 A: Murky orange brown color. Two fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is a touch below average and a short ring of lacing is left. This is easily the darkest witbier I’ve come across to date. 3.5 S: Corriander and bubblegum are easily the strongest aromas along with a stout bready yeastiness. Orange peel, banana, and wheat beneath with caramel and toastiness. Based on the deScription I wrote, it seems like it should be pretty standard, but it has the quality of not being as "bright" as most wits I’ve had. Still, it’s not bad. 3.0 T: Taste is more muddled than the nose. Again there’s a hefty yeastiness, which is more than I prefer. It interfered with the tasting of the coriander and yeast products like bubblegum and banana. Caramel and a light toastiness. 3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Light-moderate creaminess with some chewiness to it. 3.0 D: It’s not bad, but it’s different from the typical witbier. This is unfortunate because when I bought this, I was looking for a typical witbier. Give it a try I suppose. ★ 1,175 characters DavoleBomb, Mar 06, 2015

Rivertowne Rudolph’s Red 2.4
Canned. Pours a murky amber, no head. Aroma of malt, candy, makeup, berries and spice. Flavor notes of spice, booze, cherries, clove, yeast and cinnamon. Light and oily texture. Alcohol is very up front and choppy. Not smooth. Lots of spice. Prickly.

Rivertowne/Millersburg OH-PA Pale Ale 3.6
Amber color out of the big can with a fluffy off white head. Apricot and citrus hop nose. The light carbonation lends a smooth mouth feel. Sharp grapefruit rind, orange peel and apricot hop notes balance with some caramel sweetness. The finish has a long citrus hop burn. Solid pale ale.

Can. Pours copper with a thin fluffy head. Aromas of caramel malt and spices. Upfront Flavors of cinnamon, caramel, ginger and pumpkin. A bit of cola and mild earthy hops. Slightly sticky mouthfeel. Very sweet beer. The spices are way overdone. A bit too strong for my taste.

Rivertowne Rudolph’s Red 4.1
Enjoyed January 6, 2016 from a 2015 can in a snifter. Look - Murky red with a brown tint. Head is lighter tan and settles to a ring. Blotchy lacing. Smell - Ginger. Cinnamon. Brown sugar. Taste - Gingerbread. Brown sugar. Caramel. Feel - Smooth. Carbonation is not overpowering. Sweetness sticks to the tongue. Overall - Gingerbread brown sugar. Lighter at 8.1% compared to Mad Elf and Pimp My Sleigh with a lot of flavor.

Can. Poured clear dark golden color with an average to large frothy white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Medium to heavy complex hop aroma. Medium to full body with slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Rivertowne Slhoppy Monster 3.5
12oz can, from Dutch’s. Spelled "Schloppy Monster". This one is labeled 8.2%. Coded 10262327. Nothing about the can says anything about wet hops, I doubt that’s the case this year. Half hazy orange color. Pours with a bigger white head, drops to a half finger, with good retention. Leaves great ridges and webs of lace. Nice bigger citrusy, kind of piney hop. Bit of a bigger malt to it too, but it’s not bothersome. Caramel, some biscuit. Makes for a nice balance. Moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Medium to bigger body. Mild slick texture. Lighter, smooth carbonation. A balanced DIPA.

Rivertowne Maxwell’s Scottish Ale 3.7
12 ounce can, no canning date that I could find but I’m pretty sure this was a new arrival at my local beer store so I’m assuming it’s a somewhat fresh can. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a clear reddish/amber color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around a little while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like nuts, grainy/bready malt, toffee and some eathiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also some light peaty smokiness and fruitness (apple, pear) noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. Truthfully, I only bought this because Maxwell is my last name. But this is a nice Scottish Ale, it’s certainly worth a try! If you like malty Scottish Style Ales, might as well try this one. $2.79 a can.

Rivertowne Hala Kahiki Pineapple Beer 3.6
This tastes like you took a blond ale and dumped some fresh pineapple juice in it, which is much better than I expected this beer to taste. You get a lot of things and it just tastes like a Jolly Rancher. It’s cloudy and yellow w/ a short lived head of fine bubbles. It has a Cap’n Crunch malt character in the nose and a bit of pineapple. The pineapple comes out much more once you taste it and it’s got a pretty nice, juicy quality to it. I gotta say I wasn’t expecting to like this at all but it’s actually pretty good.

Rivertowne Headless Wylie’s Pumpkin Ale 3.4
Can. Deep, slightly dark clear orange pour with a large rocky beige head. Nose is spice overload, sweet but extremely pumpkinal. Taste sweet but not cloying, and possesses an incredible quality -- has spices/flavors (nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, faint allspice, vanilla) but ends up tasting exactly like a commercial holiday donut; a little more herbal, a little bitterer, sure, but that slightly hard shell of frosting is in tact, and there’s interplay between spice and seeming dough. Just super evocative for me. Not much alcohol showing, certainly no burn, fullish body but with room to grow, a touch oily and without obvious flaw. Have to admit, wasn’t pysched from the aromatics, but the flavor in-mouth is radically different than most pumpkin beers and probably worth seeking out. [2015.12.27: 3.4]

Rivertowne Old Wylie’s IPA 3.9
Classic IPA that lacks the citra hops and other piney or citrus hops I love. Well- crafted though. Great aroma with a standard-at-best palate. Needs fruit or complex palate to break from standard though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rivertowne Hop Lace Belgian IPA 2.5
Can from a trade. Nose is very orange forward and very inviting. Not getting much Belgian character though. Taste is more phenolic forward with a slight clash in hops that is unpleasant. This is one of those beers where the American hops and Blegian yeast just don’t work for me. Overly metallic and aspirin.

Nephilium
Rivertowne Rudolph’s Red 2.6
Sweet bready malt aroma, with a touch of cinnamon. Pours a clear amber with hints of red, and a white head. The cinnamon is an overwhelming flavor, crushing anything else in the beer. Medium bodied, with a lingering cinnamon finish. If you like cinnamon bombs, you’ll probably enjoy this more then me.

Can->SA. Clear lite amber with moderate offwhite head. A: pumpkin pie, gingerbread. T: tons of holiday spice, pumpkin, ginger, malt. This must be what Christmas at Walmart would taste like if you could bottle it. Fail.

Rivertowne Sassamanash 2.3
Can. Thot this would be pinkish but no, its plain old pale yeller. Taste is better than expected considering some of the previous ratings. Yes, the fruit overcomes the rude ale attributes. Much more sweet than expected. Also, there is very little real cranberry attitude in this, not very tart or sour at all. Again, not sure if I can tell there is cranberry in there, did I already say that? Was expecting a very dull fruit beer but this is not yer typical beer.

12oz can from Xroads. Poured an ugly light gold with a small bubbly white head. Aroma is dusty, old grains, berry skins, old jelly donut. Flavor is lightly sweet, jelly, lots of bread and grains, dust. Medium body with average carbonation. Might not be bad on a hot day.

Rivertowne Headless Wylie’s Pumpkin Ale 2.4
Bowsers tap. Slight off yellow and clear. Smell is ale with punky spices. lots + lots of pumpkin and surprisingly its not overdone on the spices and I like that. It is quite volatile on the palate but this is probably one of the better High alky punks I’ve had in a long time. It does not get in yer face. Barely any co2 tho. Quite acceptable. Spices do build near the finish but its still a pretty good beer IMHO.

Rivertowne Maxwell’s Scottish Ale 3.5
12oz can from Xroads. Poured a clear orange-brown with a small bubbly light beige head. Aroma is earthy, light peat, caeamel and chocolate malts, nuts and tea. Flavor is real nice, peat, earth, nut shells, dried out orange rinds, dough, hint of toffee. Body is a touch thin with average bubbly carbonation. Rather surprised by this one I like it.

Pours clear amber orange with a one finger off white head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of pumpkin meat, pie spices, vanilla, caramel, sweet malts, brown sugar, pie crust, and toasted bready malts. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Rivertowne Sassamanash 3
Sample from a can. Clear golden color. Thin white head. Bits of lace. Pretty nice, big berry in the nose, and flavor. More of a mixed berry flavor than what I typically expect from cranberry, bit of blueberry in there. Moderate-plus swet taste, mild slick, little to no bitter. Medium body. Lighter carbonation. Not much to it, but a solid blonde cranberry ale.

Rivertowne Always a Home Game 2.7
16oz can. Clear golden color. Finger of white head. Leaves pretty decent lace. Up front, a pretty vegetably flavor; corn. Not very pleasant. Moderate-plus sweet taste, lighter bitterness. Medium body. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation, reasonably smooth, with a decently balanced finish. Decent aside from the adjuncty DMS-y aroma. Some mild peppery hop to it. Disappointed overall. Even at $8/4pk, there are better options.
