Bottle. I seriously question this beverage’s place here on Ratebeer: this is by all signs an apple WINE, not a cider. Unless there really is no difference, technically. Except carbonation, because this is as flat as a pancake. Oh well, I guess it’s here to stay since people have already started rating it. :-P Pours a light yellow body with a few sediments floating around. Nose is very vinous, with tart yellow apple notes, white wine yeast and hints of wood and sugar. Taste is more tart yellow apples, alcohol and hints of honey, wood and wine yeast. Musty, yeasty tart apples in the aftertaste. Almost OK, but I wouldn’t go as far as describing it as "good". And seriously: this is a wine.

Bottle, 75cl. It’s a clear, straw-colored drink, flat and headless. Vinous apple aroma with some sulphur hints and an earthy, grassy touch. Too alcoholic flavor, vinous, more like a boring white wine than a strong cider. It’s fruity, not much apples, and some grassy and sulphury notes. Medium to full body and a warming finish where the apples is at it’s most evident. Not a bad drink, not at all, but the apples are too well hidden, and the alcohol too dominant. Yes, it’s a strong one, but I still find the alcohol too evident. 100102

It’s light golden and the aroma has notes of apple and sourness. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of sour apple and a touch of wood. The sourness is overwhelming, and combined with notes of alcohol, it’s really not pleasant.

0.75 L bottle from Vinmonopolet. Straw colored body with brilliant clarity. No head, no carbonation. Vinous aroma. Sharp fruity with yeast notes and a solvent-like alcohol scent. Vinous flavor as well, astrigent fruity, not very appely. Alcohol-ish with fusel notes and a touch of sulphur. A rather unattractive and boozy apple-wine.

750 ml screwcap green bottle, from Vinmonopolet (bestillingsutvalget). ABV is 11%. Pours moderately sparkling, no lasting head. Very pale golden colour. Aroma of sweet eating apples, also notes of cider apples and flowers. The flavour is medium sweet (or perhaps medium dry?), anyway this is the driest Norwegian cider I have tasted so far (most of them are made with sweet apples only). The flavour has again a mix of sweet eating apples and moderately bitter cider apples, unfortunately the alcohol is fairly noticeable. Bitter finish.

27.5 cL clear bottle. Pours clear and pale yellow to white with no head. Artificial sweet apple aroma. Flavour on the contrary is not as sweet but still artifical. Goes into a rather dry and acidic to citric flavour and finish. Somewhat bland and quite artificial.

Medium coarse white head disappears immediately. Nearly colourless body with just a hint of something that might be yellow. Sweet mealy artifical apple aroma with toffeeish notes. Sweetish earthy apple taste with notes of toffee. Quite watery, but clean and smooth mouthfeel. A touch of pear as well. Sharpish on the tongue from the carbonation. No aftertaste. Easy to drink, but too watery, and doesn’t really have much to recommend it. Can imagine teenagers find this easy to get drunk on, though. (0.275l bottle from Ica Gourmet, Aker Brygge, Oslo.)

Bottle. Brilliant pale straw yellow. Noisy carbonatian. Medium white coarse head , quickly diminishing. Aroma is part dry apples, part a regular white wine. Scents of yeast. Taste is more like a dry wine-cooler than a cider. Body is light and the palate is not very filling, but still beyond the usual Norwegian alcopops labelled as ’Cider’.

275 ml clear slimline bottle with twist-off cap. Extremely pale straw coloured, fizzy. Moderate apple aroma and flavour (of eating apples, not cider apples), not very exciting but not offensive either. Fizzy and watery mouthfeel. An okay refreshment, no more than that.

Bottle. It pours very pale, just a yellow touch to it, with a nice carbonation. There’s a yeasty sensation to the aroma, which consist mostly of apples, but there’s a pear note as well, even though there’s no pear used in the process. The flavor has apples and yeast, and there’s a note of alcohol as well. Medium to thin mouthfeel. Quite fizzy in the mouth, but not in an unpleasant way. The finish has the same apples and yeast as in the initial flavor, and some alcohol notes. Not a complex cider, but far much better than the other horrible, artificial-tasting, sweet ciders we get in the Norwegian super-markets. Quite easy to down as well. (070713)

250ml bottle. Pale body, close to water in color. Flavor is ripe apple, almost a bit sherry-like, yeast, a hint of alcohol and rather sweet with some sourness. The sweetness feels more natural and balanced than some terrible Norwegian alcopop versions of cider. I’m not to keen on ciders, and believe a cider should be a bit rougher in style, but this is anyway a quite refreshing drink and deserves more success than it probably would get. This is more like a commercial version of a farmer cider.
