Gravity pour at Zum Franziskaner. Almost clear light amber liquid with medium egg shell white head. Aroma of bread, toasty malt, light earthy hops, noble hops, fruit and light grain. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of toasty malt, toffee and noble hops. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Great but a bit sweeter than I like.

Tap at the brewery. Bright, cloudy orange with a high, fine head. Nose is dried apricot, light onion, biscuit. Sweet flavor of stone fruit and oranges, mostly apricots. Perfectly silky, full, creamy body. Smooth and with low carbonation. Peppery, prickly hop finish. Very original and unique.

Draught (Zum Franziskaner, Stockholm) - Hazy dark amber/light copper with a foamy head. Grass, rye bread, sultanas and hints of syrup in the aroma. Rye, sultanas, syrup, biscuity malt and dried apricot all feature in the slightly sweet and nutty taste.

On cask at Zum Fransiscaner, Stockholm. Big and fluffy, long lasting white head. Opaque solid golden color. Rather big butterscotch aroma with pilsner maltiness and german nobel hops in the background.Big malty taste. A medium lingering bitterness. Second try, cask at Zum Fransiskaner Stockholm 200930. Still a bit of butterscotch but still the rest is good.

Gravity at Frankenbierfest Rome. Aroma had toasted malt, subtle floral hops and hay. Over the palate came fresh pale malt, floral hops and floral hops. Dry and light bitter finish.

From tap as well as gravity barrel ("bayerischen Anstich") at Brauerei Hartleb in Nov. 2014: Burnished golden with a bit of haze. Thin ivory foam. Malt-rich aromas of baking bread, hay dust, piecrust and cookie. Underlying rustic sulfur, peach, lemon and aniseed-herbal hops. Creamy, well-conditioned mouthfeel. Soft bodied. Crisply toasty, initially, with a baguette pils malt dimension that’s quick to bloom alongside a zesty hop twinge. Candyish and nutty yeast films the palate and imparts an oily characteristic as it marries with the succulent malt to create a butter-glazed pastry effect. Malt flirts at melanoidiny at times with its suave shortbready layers, and the grain’s suppleness is enriched by a splash of peach puree. Pervasive yeastiness is nearly phenolic at times, leaving a welcome rusticity all over the place yet without adversely affecting the clean fermentation. Herbaceous, fennel seed hops and ongoing peachlike fruitiness precede the tealike hop backdrop at the sweetish finish. Simply lovely. Unsurprisingly, a newly tapped barrel proved to be superior to what was flowing from the regular tap. A markedly softer mouthfeel was experienced, which distributed the sublimely soft bed of malt to better effect. And although I found the sweetness to be a shade high in the standard tap version, the barrel was more integrated and cleaner (no yogurt like I encountered in the tap sample). To my delight, there was some rustic sulfur in the barrel as well, which is always a plus when it comes to Franconian kellerbier. Certainly one of the finest beers to be found in Middle Franconia, or all of Franconia for that matter.

(Thanks to 3fourths for driving me all the way out here and surprising me with this little gem he "discovered" the year or so before.)

My Bottom Line:
Apricot jam on madeleine cookies; a most quenching and characterful afternoon treat of a Landbier.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the misty orange.
-Flavor profile is fresh and juicy.
-Flavor dosage is perfect. By the third pint, you’re still enjoying yourself and your palate is not too fatigued.
-Needless to say, drinkability is sky high.
-Such simple, straightforward pleasures are very efficient ways to get a smile on my face.

On tap at the brewery pub.

Tap @ Hartleb Maroldsweisach. Pours hazy golden with a white head and lacings. Rustic, grassy and juicy hoppy. Grassy green, marmelade and breadcrust. Really soft and smooth. Absolutely amazing! Dry bitter hoppy sticky finish. Bang! 3,5 years later. Just insane again. Gravity barrel. Green, apricot, citrus and biscuit. Overly smooth and lovely. One of the absolute best in the region.. 4,2-4,4.

Draft at the brewery. Lightly hazed honey gold with a short, quickly dying white head. Malty, honey-ish, mineral-focused, showing Hallertau apricot jam aroma hops well. Sweet, medium body, rich and savory in the mouth, measured bitterness and medium acidity. Remarkably long and savory malt finish peppered by restrained noble hop bitterness. Juicy, sweet and clean, full of savory, filling melanoidins. It’s not the most expressive Landbier, but it is lip-smacking and the balance is stellar, allowing it to easily be put down in gulps even with the high sweetness.

This is the beer I long for. While I live in Los Angeles, I have a home a couple villages away from this Brewpub. Locals, who have a wide variety of excellent beers available to them, love this beer. They don’t bottle but are happy to fill growlers for the price of soda pop. Other than the so call “Unfiltered Reference Beer at the Pilzner Urquel Brewry Tour”, this is my favorite beer to date.

(draught at the brewpub) Hazy, orange-golden colour with a short off-white foamy head. Moderately sweet and slightly yeasty malty aroma with a tinge of cara-malt, biscuits and herbal hoppy spice. Bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Quite hearty (cara-)malt character with notes of biscuits, a subtle fruity touch and herbal hops. Moderately dry bitter-sweet finish with rounded malty and herbal hoppy notes. Clean and solid Franconian Keller-/Landbier. 08.XI.10

Draught at the brewpub: Deep golden, hazy with a smaller stable off-white head; solid nose: pale malt and hops, combined with a yeasty fruitiness; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; lingering, soft hoppy-fruity finish. Very fine Kellerbier......

Draught at the brewpub. Looked as if there was a town party or something. Refreshing aroma, hint of aromatic hops. Hazy dark golden colour. Stable white head. The flavour is nice and clean, fruity with a good hop spiciness. Very flavourful, yet very drinkable. A very good beer. Probably only good fresh from the tap, but might not be available anywhere else anyway.

Brewery tap. Blonde, hazy. Hopbitter, flowery, even a bit citric flavor with a hay-like aftertaste. Firm hopcharacter. Excellent, except for the rather bland aroma.
