Brown color with medium sized head, short retention. Moderate aroma of roasted malts and chocolate, pleasant. Dry mouthfeel; highly carbonated; medium-to-strong roasted malt flavor, a touch of dark chocolate, a bit earthy and dusty, with a good bitterness level and a trace of yeast.
Tastes more like a top-fermented beer, not as clean as Dunkels, not bad at all.

Degenbier Special Bitter 3.2
Bottle 50 cl from GGF Getränke in Aarau (CH). Version 4,8 ABV. Dark brown-orangy, light beige foam. Bouquet of aromatic hops, grapefruit, key diacetyl. The mouth is softer than promised, discreet malt, average roundness, notes of apricot, citrus zest, toffy. Rather supple and light, nice bitterness but not enough for an IPA. Malt and hop are balanced in a mossy final.

Degenbier Onyx (Dunkel) 3.1
0.5l bottle courtesy of and shared with ogivlado who got it in a trade with Allen (thanks both!)
Poured an opaque brown body with a small off white head. Malty, slightly acidic odd nose, somewhat roasty and not impressive. The taste is malty, with some very pleasant oddly gluey notes, not all that roasty, slightly acidic and drinkable. Dunno, nice enough, a bit subtle, but not all that dunkel-like. You can do better. I would, however, try it again fresh.

Degenbier Onyx (Dunkel) 3.6
Thanks to Allen for this one. The bottle looks simple, but really good. The beer in the glass more black than dark, small head. Starts malty and roasty, quite smoky for a dunkel, notes of bacon. Finish a bit earthy, roasty. Really nice!

Degenbier Special Bitter 3.8
Bottled 50cl. My version had 4.8 ABV. Labeled as Special Bitter II. Not really the same beer. It pours a beautiful clear dark ruby brown beer with a small, nicely lacing beige head. Impressive aroma of citrusy resiny hops (C-hops). Very nice hop profile indeed. Dark chocolate and coffee sneaking in. Strong bitterness. Subtle carbonation. Complex and delicious. Reminiscent of an american brew.

Degenbier Kobra (Hell) 3.3
Bottle 50 cl from GGF Getränke in Aarau (CH). Pale orange beer, invading and persistent foam, champagnized carbonation. Flavor of malt, hops, fruity, touches of yeast, honey and herbs. At first bitter-soft in the mouth, pleasant, slightly rough, hints of orange. Ten comes the bitterness, lined with a little salt. Beautiful blonde well made, elegant.

Degenbier Onyx (Dunkel) 2.6
Bottle 50 cl from GGF Getränke in Aarau. Dunkel dark brown, thin beige foam. It has an aroma of roasted coffee, mineral and dark chocolate, interesting. It adds, in the mouth, notes of tails of cherries and rucola. Medium body. It ends with the roast and bitterness. The bottle is screen-printed, original but useless and too expensive to deposit.

Degenbier Kobra (Hell) 2.6
Bottled, thanks Bov! Cloudy golden, small head. Fruity and mildly citrusy. Light-medium bodied with clean spritzy mouthfeel. Finishes with low bitterness. Excessive carbonation takes the edge of it.

Degenbier Kobra (Hell) 3.2
(bottle, courtesy of Allen) Hazy, golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Fresh yeasty and pale malty aroma with aromatic citrus- and lime-fruity hops and peppery spice. Slight sweet and shy bitter flavour, slim bodied with a slightly fizzy carbonation. Pale malt-character, yeasty, mildly fruity and floral hoppy taste, pretty dry and fizzy, also noble hoppy finish. Not a perfect but quite aromatic and fresh Zwickel/Kellerbier. 19.XII.09

Degenbier Onyx (Dunkel) 3.4
(bottle) Clear, dark brown colour with a beige and loose foamy head. Sweet and roasted malty aroma, slightly ashy with notes of cacao, caramel and leather. Moderately sweet and slightly roast-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Roast-malty base with a quite dry, almost Schwarzbier-like character, accompanied by notes of cacao/chocolate; quite dry and bitter-sweet finish with a tinge of chocolate in the aftertaste. A bit fizzy but still very good. 24.XI.09
