Mission Holiday Ale 3.5
Pours a dark purple color with aroma of figs and raisins. Taste is similar, with a plum and fig flavor. A rich complex flavor with this beer, rum soaked raisins, and a candied fruit richness. All the complexity hides the alcohol content very well.

Mission Hard Root Beer 3.4
Ok, this one was tough!! It’s a bad beer, but a wonderfully crafted, beautifully conceived beverage, almost evil in its subversive potential! Likely the most awesome "hard" soda I’ve ever had. So DEFINITELY WORTH A TRY!!! 7%ABV. Tapped out dark brown. 38ºSRM. Nose was herbal and sweet and entirely what you’d expect of a good root beer. No significant beery aroma. Mouthfeel was watery and carbonated and like soda. Palate was flat and sweet with a pleasant creamy flavor running under the sweet, herbal and sasparilla, caramel flavors for a root beer. Local tasting note: Sarsi. Finish is sweet.

Mission Shipwrecked Double IPA 4.2
9.25%ABV. Imperial IPA. Tapped out a rich amber. 18ºSRM. Nose is heavy with a funkly fog-like fug. Aromas of fresh hemp and other more closely related herb relatives. When I sniffed this again for nose after the tasting was done and there was just the dregs slowly evaporating off the bottom of the glass, there are really thickly spicy and funky odors of sweat socks, oregano and dill...and of course that hemp-like nose. Palate is sweet with graham cracker, honey, barley bread toast. Hops are bitter, resinous, with a hint of pine. The citrus character of the hop comes through when you appreciate the bitter, the sweet and the pine-like tang at the end which is a little like chasing on grapefruit peel. Finish was medium, bitter and as mentioned above a little weedy funky. Goes on Favorites List!

Mission Dark Seas Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel 4.1
11.25%ABV. Imperial Stout. Nose has raisins, prunes and a very smooth fudge-like vanilla nose. Some light smoke and a bit of scorched wood. Mouthfeel is syrupy. There is barely enough carbonation. I’m not complaining. Palate is dark stone fruit, stewed pears, prunes with nice bitter wood-smoky coffee. This is closer to a French roast. Continues blooming as the brew comes up to room temperature. I would suggest you slowly enjoy this one. The aroma becomes almost wine-like with the fruity sweetness of ripe fruit like figs and grapes becoming more prominent as it warms. The smokiness of a highland single malt also figures into the tasting, reinforced by the the boldly alcoholic palate. Some pipe tobacco ripe sweetness as well. Finish is syrupy. Goes on Favorites List!

Mission Armada Collaboration Saison 3.3
April 5th, 2014 - Amrada’s soft and subtle saison was the finishing blow to our quick raid on Mission Brewery. Clear and sticky looking, the only visible column of carbonation runs up one side of the glass, leaving the rest of the beer looking calm and patient. The head unfurls quickly, revealing an aroma of apple and bubblegum - very sweet for a saison. The palate is sudsier than the appearance lets on, light and grainy, but sweet here too. Pear is the predominant fruit flavor, but there’s some apple here, too. After a long line of tasters a saison is always hard to parse, but this definitely feels like it’s on the sweetest side. Fresh, yes, but those typical French grain tastes were sacrificed at the altar of esters.

Mission Milk Stout 3.2
April 5th, 2014 - Mission Brewery’s Milk Stout is pretty standard, pretty regular, and true to a drinkable, semi-sweet stout. Dark and smooth, it looks a treat as it swirls and dances in the glass, and the aroma is cold, fresh and slightly lactic. And the flavor is the minimum expected: husky and chocolate, with a semi-sweet flavor, and a slight tang that gives it a characteristic signature of a milk stout. Nothing special, nothing unique - just a fair representation of the style.
